3 Big Names That Must Lose at SummerSlam

It’s almost SummerSlam time and, needless to say, the biggest summer PPV event in the WWE calendar offers a card, stacked up with big-time players. However, at the dawn of the New Era, some of the company’s household names will have to take a loss, in order to put the change in motion. Here are the top 3 big names that should be defeated at SummerSlam!

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is The Man, no doubt about it. In the last few years, he’s been central to the WWE – first as a member of the Shield and later on – as one of the top tier superstars in the company. Despite being, arguably, the biggest heel in the WWE over the last couple of years, Seth Rollins is also a man, dear to the WWE Universe. That he owes to his incredible move set. No amount of heel heat, which he so skillfully generates in his promos, can hide his brilliance in the ring. Now, with the brand new WWE Universal title on the line, it’s no surprise that Seth Rollins is booked to compete. Yet, at SummerSlam, The Man has to fall, in order for the Demon to rise.

Finn Balor is a great overall performer. He’s the type of an indie star that brought NXT to a different level. He was one of those champions that made the WWE Universe rally at the thought that he’s still in developmental. However, not all WWE fans watch NXT or follow the indie scene. For them Finn Balor is some guy who got a shot at the title on his first day at work. The WWE needs to promote Finn, as a symbol of its own brand. If he’s to make an impact on the main roster, he cannot afford to lose to Rollins at SummerSlam.

Regardless of what happens, Seth Rollins will remain The Man in the eyes of the authority and the fans. Finn Balor’s future, on the other hand, is hanging in the balance. A victory will skyrocket him into stardom. A loss threatens to send him to the midcard or worse. First impressions matter. The New Era promises a change – Finn Balor is the face of NXT. Making him the face of RAW would signify that change. Therefore, our beloved heel – Seth Rollins, will have to suffer a defeat at SummerSlam.

John Cena

John Cena might not be a main event player any more but he is as invincible as ever. Getting a clean victory over Cena one-on-one is still considered mission impossible. AJ Styles hasn’t had much luck till now. He did defeat Cena at Money in the Bank but that was thanks to The Club. Every time AJ Styles beat up John Cena, it was with The Club. Ever since he turned heel, Styles, has been weak.

After the draft, Gallows and Anderson moved to SmackDown and they’ve been manhandling the New Day, despite the tag team champs, having the numbers’ advantage. That made them look like the unstoppable heels they were meant to be. AJ Styles decided to keep going with the Cena feud. He’s about to attempt to regain credibility as a singles competitor by facing the WWE’s own Superman one-on-one at SummerSlam. The only way Styles will come out of this on a positive is if he manages to actually beat John Cena.

As improbable as it seems, Cena could lose, in order to give AJ the push he needs and deserves. Cena did the same for Kevin Owens when he arrived. Also, having the Unbeatable one get beat would be yet another proof that the WWE means business and the New Era is not just smoke and mirrors. So, in the name of the greater good, the WWE must sacrifice John Cena at SumemrSlam.

Brock Lesnar

Weirdly enough, imagining The Beast, getting pinned clean is more difficult than picturing John Cena take the three count on his back. Lesnar has pretty much always been unstoppable but once he ended the Undertaker’s Streak in 2014, Brock became a god in the WWE. No one’s been able to take the Beast down after the Deadman immortalized him.  Every opponent Lesnar faces, regardless of how strong he is, seems to be only a mere human, scratching and clawing to survive against a force beyond comprehension. The WWE vested in Brock Lesnar such power that none other superstar has. This is why no one will expect Lesnar to really lose clean at SummerSlam. This is also why he should.

Randy Orton is not just any superstar. He’s the Legend Killer. The Viper had been out with an injury for over 9 months and you might think that after over 15 years of watching the guy, people wouldn’t be that excited to see him come back but his return was eagerly anticipated. The moment Randy’s music hit, the crowd were on their feet. When the first RKO hit, the cheers almost blew the roof off the building.  If there is a man, who’s capable of taking out The Beast, it’s the Legend Killer.

Brock’s gimmick is becoming stale. He looks dangerous and delivers a great show but nobody can stay relevant if there is no suspense. Now it’s too obvious and everyone knows that regardless of the opponent, Lesnar will win. Orton needs to bring the Beast back to human level and he also needs to rebuild his image, following his long absence. It would be interesting to see how Brock would handle a defeat. That would make his future matches more exciting. SummerSlam is the time for the Beast to be slain.
