3 Wins and 3 Losses That Should Happen At Extreme Rules

We are about a week away from WWE Extreme Rules 2016. Anything that qualifies as “extreme” is yet to be added to the card but the matches that are already booked will set the stage for the summer storylines in the WWE. Here are three wins and three losses that the WWE Creative must book if they want the outcome of Extreme Rules to matter in the long run.

Wins

  1. Dean Ambrose

It doesn’t take a lot to see that the Ambrose vs. Jericho feud is based on some truly  ridiculous problematic. It all started over an argument about hosting a talk show and ended up being a revenge plot for a potted plant and a shiny jacket. It’s hard to take the feud seriously when this is the plot it’s based on. The only thing carrying this rivalry is the brilliant mic work from the two superstars involved.

However, as bad and as irrelevant this feud may be, Dean Ambrose desperately needs to come on top in the end. After the huge blow the Lunatic Fringe took to his credibility at WrestleMania, he deserves to get a victory under his belt. Besides, if the WWE play their cards well, there could be a big storm coming with Reigns growing more and more hated and Rollins, nearing his comeback. In times like these, it would be smart to have Dean Ambrose on a wave of momentum because he could fit right in that dynamic.

  1. Rusev

The Bulgarian Brute seems to be right back on track on the way to once again accomplish total domination. He’s finally free from the glorified jobber group, known as the League of Nations. Rusev was probably the only member of the group, who reaped some benefits out of being in the stable. His gain is not measured in wins and losses, it’s character-wise. As part of the League of Nations, Rusev came out of his shell. He’s no longer a one-dimensional foreign heel. He’s also an alpha male who hangs out with the lads, has a soft spot for his woman and cracks incredible jokes.

I really wanted Kalisto to shine as a champion but the WWE didn’t allow it to happen. Despite his wrestling skills, the US Champ was kept faceless. In fact, his most exciting feud thus far is against Rusev. Here Kalisto actually shows some initiative and his personality comes through in his promos. Unfortunately, it’s too late. His reign has already been ruined by bad booking. The championship has become irrelevant again, thanks to the WWE Creative. Rusev has the charisma to change that.

The only fear I have is that a potential victory for the Bulgarian Brute at Extreme Rules will be overshadowed but a devastating loss to the returning, unbeatable John Cena.

  1. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin debuted considerably well on the main roster. He got to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and he dominated Ziggler every time he saw him in the ring. The fans actually paid attention to the Lone Wolf.

However, the rivalry against Ziggler has gotten stale. It should have been only a springboard to greater things. It shouldn’t have lasted more than one PPV. The focus should have been on Baron Corbin. He should be building a strong list of victories over different opponents. Instead, the Lone Wolf is stuck with a feud without a story and his matches barely get TV time.

Corbin must win at Extreme Rules and he must do it in a memorable way. He has to destroy Ziggler mercilessly. It must make the WWE Universe pay attention again. Corbin has to go extreme at the PPV, in order to save his chances of making a difference on the main roster.

Losses

  1. Charlotte

Charlotte’s reign has gotten tedious. She’s had the title since September last year. The fans need a change of scenery. It will be refreshing to see Natty with the belt.  Natalya is a very underused and underappreciated veteran. I don’t see her, holding the championship for a long time but I think she deserves a Women’s Championship reign under her belt.

A loss would also breathe life back into Charlotte’s character. I understand Charlotte’s gimmick. It makes sense that she’s paired up with her dad. It’s supposed to be an irritating, cheating heel gimmick and it works as such. The fans boo Charlotte, although they used to love her when she was The Queen of NXT. This means she’s doing her job well as a heel. However, this type of heel is getting annoying far too quickly. A loss could prompt Charlotte to get rid of her dad and become stronger. That would get the fans to care again.

  1. New Day

This is another title reign that needs to come to an end. The New Day are fun but like every joke that gets told over and over again, their act has lived its course. I’m not saying that the New Day should break up, far from that. The New Day are gold together but they need to keep a low profile for a bit, so that when they jump back into the run for the title, the fans will find them interesting again.

Also, the new guys on the roster deserve an opportunity to show their talents. The Vaudevillains were brilliant on NXT. Their gimmick is unique. They are gentleman, they protect each other and fight with honor, yet they are heel. The references they make in their promos are often very intelligent. Still, English ad Gotch first need to make a name for themselves. The main roster fans aren’t necessarily as welcoming as the NXT crowd.

The New Day must lose clean at Extreme Rules, in order to save their own popularity and to give the Vaudevillains a chance to escape obscurity.

  1. AJ Styles

That’s a more controversial pick of mine. As much as I agree that Roman Reigns is pushed beyond the limits of decency and that AJ Styles deserves to beat him fair and square, the Phenomenal one has to lose again, in order to set the wheels in motion for greater things in the near future.

Another victory under the belt of Roman Reigns would infuriate the fans, who can’t stand him already. Then, Seth Rollins will come back. He’ll challenge Reigns and the WWE Universe will explode with excitement. A face Seth Rollins, saving us from the terrible reign of the Roman Empire – it’s a brilliant feud. On top of that, add Money in the Bank. Give Ambrose the briefcase. Then you get heel Reigns, who believes he’s a face. Face Rollins, who’s adored by the fans and a tweener Ambrose, who could swing either way. The booking possibilities there would be endless.

As for AJ Styles, he and the Club are better off as far from Reigns as possible. He’s nearly killed all their momentum already.
