3 WWE Ideas That Should Work But Don’t

Sometimes the WWE comes up with great, promising concepts that somehow end up being a disaster once they hit the real world. Here are three examples of such ideas that we are witnessing right now.

The Boss Enters the Hunt for the Divas Championship

The WWE Universe was loud and clear – the WE WANT SASHA chants throughout every divas segment were hard to ignore. Separating the Boss from team B.A.D. and giving her all the spotlight she deserves should have been one of the best ideas the WWE Creative has had in a while. Making one of the two women responsible for the first ever Iron Woman match a contender for the WWE Divas Championship should have been one of the best things that could have happened to the Divas Division.

However, all that success for Sasha is coming at the wrong time and worse – at the expense of Becky Lynch. The Boss, entering the feud against Charlotte, almost certainly turns Becky into an afterthought. The WWE’s trying to play this weird alliance between a tweener and a face, resulting in some comic situation and a much livelier dynamic for the feud with Charlotte. However, as funny as the Becky/Sasha interactions are, the reality is that there can be only one Divas Champion and it will probably be Sasha.

I don’t deny that the Boss deserves to take down Charlotte. However, the fans were made to believe that it was Becky’s time to shine. It should have not been taken away from her. The Lass Kicker should have won the title at the Royal Rumble. She should have been allowed a grueling feud against Charlotte and she should have still come on top. Only then, in a couple of months’ time, should have Sasha been brought in.  The Boss would have then claimed her throne. That way, it would not have been necessary to sacrifice Becky for Sasha and everyone would have had their fair share of fame.

Kalisto’s US Championship Reigns

Kalisto definitely deserves to hold the US Championship. He’s the top luchador in the WWE. He’s not only incredibly fast and agile in the ring, but he’s also a smart wrestler. He knows how to play his opponents, evade them and hit only when the time is right. Kalisto sees openings where most people don’t because his size requires him to be a quick thinker. And as a bonus, he’s also quite good at the mic. His promos are reminiscent of Mysterio’s and that should be an indication of his capability to connect with the crowd.

However, Kalisto’s reign has been booked badly from the very beginning. His victories over Del Rio did look like flukes. Kalisto himself seemed surprised to have won. His first reign lasted about a day and it was a travesty. It didn’t help Del Rio look more credible as a heel and it sure didn’t make Kalisto look like a more sympathetic face. He simply came off as a jobber.

Now, the second time around, the WWE Creative is seemingly trying to present Kalisto as a fighting champion. However, his matches are booked badly once again. The face-off with Neville should have been saved for later. It was a brilliant match but the outcome was obvious, which killed the suspense. This should have been a decent rivalry for the title where Neville would actually have been considered a viable threat. It would have allowed both of them to showcase their unique wrestling styles. This would have given Kalisto a true rival for the title, it would have pulled Neville out of the whole, he’s been buried in,  and their combined brilliance in the ring would have made the US Championship that much more important. Then again, the WWE Creative booked Neville vs. Kalisto as a one-off thing.

Kalisto’s next opponent was Kevin Owens, who was hardly bothered to care about the champ because he was extremely preoccupied with Ziggler at ringside. Kalisto was just “kinda there” and his victory was a measly roll-up, which looked sloppy and highly unbelievable. It was made to look like the “fighting US champion” would have had no chance without the Show Off at ringside. This is not how you build a champion, that’s for sure! Kalisto deserves a much better reign than this.

Triple Threat for The WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Despite the fact that the Triple Threat match at FastLane determines only the #1 Contender and is not technically for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, it’s obvious that the guy who wins it is guaranteed to dethrone Triple H, as Hunter clearly shows no interest in being a defending champion. The Game’s just a vessel to carry the championship to Wrestle Mania and sell tickets. The only question here is how to tell a better, more exciting story on the road to the Biggest Stage of Them All.

The Triple Threat situation is necessary for two reasons. First, Reigns vs. Lesnar has already happened. The hype won’t be nearly the same because it’s just too early to play that card again. Second, Lesnar is still not a regular superstar. If it was one-on-one against Reigns, the Beast would either have to lose clean (hence, no rematch claims) or he’d have to win and become a champion. The first option would mean sacrificing Brock’s unstoppable gimmick only to build Reigns, which would be a dumb move, knowing how much Lesnar is paid specifically to portray that gimmick. However, another part-time Lesnar reign, in which the championship is not on TV and not even on PPVs, would be bad for business. Therefore, a distraction, a third party is needed to open doors for swerves. This way Lesnar would still draw viewers in but neither he, nor Roman would have to go down definitively.

Picking Dean Ambrose to fill that third party role is the easy way out. The Ambrose/Reigns relationship is well-established. The WWE’s using it as a life vest every time Roman’s popularity is sinking. However, the Lunatic Fringe is paying the price of his affiliation with Reigns. Dean’s the IC Champion but his title, after a promising feud against Owens, is now completely forgotten. Ambrose carries the belt on his shoulder but no one cares to challenge him for it and he’s too busy chasing another title to care about popularizing this one. The worst part is – it’s painfully clear that Ambrose is there only to take the fall. He won’t beat Roman or Brock but his IC title reign is still suffering from this useless storyline.

Sheamus would have been a much better choice of a third man in the Triple Threat. What would his behavior be like? He strikes me as the type of a guy, who’d go at Brock full on and would look believable doing it. But would he team up with Reigns to take down the Beast? And if Sheamus was to win, would he just lie down for Triple H at WrestleMania or would he turn on the Authority for the ultimate prize? The Celtic Warrior could have brought excitement to the storyline. Instead, we are about to get yet another predictable match where the Wyatts are going to cost Brock the title shot and Reigns will stand victorious at Ambrose’s expense.
