4 More Reasons the New Era Rocks

Last week we talked about the rise of the New Era and we listed 4 reasons why it’s so great. Guess what! The product has improved so much that this week we’ll do part 2! Here’s 4 more reasons the New Era rocks!

Mixed Gender Matches Are Back

This week on RAW, Charlotte and Jericho faced Enzo and Sasha Banks.  I can’t even remember the last time I saw a credible mixed gender tag team match in the WWE. There was the very short-lived involvement of Naomi and Natalya in the Usos vs. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd feud a few years back but things there were more based on ringside drama and less on the actual wrestling.

The closest we’ve gotten to a mixed match of any kind recently was when Adam Rose’s Bunny faced Natalya in an inter-species match. Needless to say, what we saw on RAW was on a completely different level. The male and the female talent wrestled equally and both sides got the respect they deserve.

The women in the match were not only taken seriously, but they were the center of the story that led to the fight, in the first place. This is a huge step for the WWE. In an era when the WWE claims to treat women equally, it was about time this kind of a fight happened.

The Jokes  – Not so PG Anymore

One of the main issues the WWE fans had with the product was the restrictions of the PG rating. Despite, PG still being in power, the writers are obviously trying to plant more and more inappropriate jokes. Yet, they do it in a clever way, so it could fly over the heads of the younger viewers.

The reference about Charlotte, being the product of Ric Flair’s one night stands; the SAWFT description of Enzo’s manly attributes and the two mandarins and a banana stature, created by the New Day – those all made the hairs on my arms stand, thinking that over 50% of the WWE fan base is under 14.  Then again, I can’t deny I found them funny and I was entertained that night.

So, contrary to my moral riot against the popularization of sexual jokes amongst minors, I have to acknowledge that the New Era is trying to cater to the adult portion of their viewers, as well. This is a definite reason to like the product more.

Here Come the Invasions

Some say it’s too early but the war between SmackDown and RAW already caused some invasions. It was inevitable to see Orton and Lesnar raid each other’s brand, since their feud had to have some sort of a build-up before SummerSlam. Although it was all predictable, it still got the crowd excited.

Heath Slater, being a free agent, is still technically invading both shows. Even though this is not the same situation, as Lesnar vs. Orton, it still makes both shows more entertaining.

I think this is only the beginning. With only one Tag Team Title and only one Women’s Championship, spanning over two brands, and with no new titles, being mentioned, it only seems logical that some superstars will have to carry out invasions, in order to get their hands on a belt in their category. The unpredictability of who and when makes the New Era versions of RAW and SmackDown that much more intriguing.

Sticking it to the Haters

Let me start by clarifying one thing – there will always be haters. New faces and old guys, who never got a chance, practically, the underdogs were promised a chance in the New Era and they got it. Finn Balor became a #1 contender on his first night on the main roster and  Dolph Ziggler finally made it to the main event scene. This should have made the fans happy, but it pulled out all the haters instead.

Suddenly, the IWC forgot how much they wanted Ziggler to get a shot and how unfair they thought it was Balor wasn’t on the main roster yet. Now, Ziggler tuned out to be “not good enough” and Balor was criticized for getting pushed “on his first day at work”.

Instead of being fazed by this reaction, the WWE Creative wrote it into the script. In the case of Balor, they just allowed him to introduce himself to the main roster audience and as for Ziggler, they wrote the entire SD Live this week around the comments of his critics. So the New Era WWE simply took all the negative energy spewed by the haters and transformed it into high-quality segments. This undoubtedly makes the product better!
