5 Reasons Roadblock End of The Line Sucked

Roadblock End of the Line was expected to close the year 2016 of PPVs for the WWE on a high note. However, the show totally flopped, giving off more of an average RAW vibe, rather than a must-see special feel. Here are the five main reasons why!

  1. Big Cass Dominated Rusev

Rusev vs. Big Cass wasn’t even on the main card. It ended up in the Roadblock pre-show and really – that’s where it belonged.

Enzo came out, having the audacity to put an insulted face on, as he proudly told us that his words “have the legs of a seven footer”. How brave of Enzo Amore – hitting on a married woman, offending her and then after getting his ass kicked for it – sending in his big friend to fight the fight the HE had started. How are we ever to take Rusev as the heel here?!

The WWE had a great opportunity to try the Bulgarian Brute as a face. Instead, they had him get humiliated by Big Cass. Rusev did get a count-out victory but he looked pitiful in the role that was appointed to him.

It would be great if this rivalry could get forgotten, along with most of Roadblock End of the Line.

  1. Sami Zayn Looked Weak

The 10-minutes time limit was put in place, so Sami Zayn could survive it and say that he beat Braun Strowman. That was obvious enough. How exactly those 10 minutes would be spent was the real question.

The WWE opted for an unnecessary appearance of Mick Foley to waste some precious time. Braun Strowman acted out of character. It would have been more in his nature to grab Sami and break him right in front of the RAW GM, instead of having pointless verbal arguments.

Sami had almost no offense whatsoever. Are we supposed to take this as a victory when he looked like a punch bag all the way through? I understand Zayn played the underdog, but he could have done that and he could have actually delivered something in the ring, at the same time.

The way this was booked, Sami doesn’t look any better than before Roadblock. There is no way he’s winning this feud. Sami would be better off on SmackDown!

  1. Charlotte Won AGAIN

This victory was one of the most cringe-worthy booking decisions of 2016 in the WWE. Four times. Four times has Sasha won the belt and lost it to Charlotte on the next possible PPV. This is getting absolutely ridiculous!

The match itself should have been monumental but it was disappointing. I’ll give credit where it’s due, the women not only fought the entire 30 minutes of the Ironman match but they also went into overtime and still delivered. However, the pacing was terrible. 3 seconds left till the end of the normal time. 3 seconds and Sahsa taps. This makes no sense.

The WWE has turned the WWE RAW Women’s Championship into a complete joke. Roadblock could have changed this stupid pattern of passing the belt between the always dominant Charlotte and the teary underdog face Sasha. Yet, the WWE chose to click repeat again. Such a letdown!

  1. Universal Title Booking

Both the Jericho vs. Rollins and the Reigns vs. Owens matches were weak. The wrestling was good but how can you expect PPV type of hype for fights that don’t have true underlying feuds? Come on! Jericho vs. Owens would have been a far stronger match than these two put together.

These matches felt like any regular RAW fillers. The outcome was painfully predictable. I don’t know why the WWE even bothered booking these, if the writers weren’t going to put some sort of a swerve to it.  Unless the rekindling of the Chris and Kevin relationship was meant to be the big surprise… That’s just a case of blatantly underestimating the fans’ intelligence.

Roadblock brought nothing new to the table when it comes to the Universal title. Nothing at all. If we weren’t going to get something bigger, at least, the actual start of a KO vs. Jericho feud would have been nice but – no. What a disappointment!

  1. No Triple H

Even looking at the Roadblock card before the PPV, we knew there was nothing huge on it. The one thing that wasn’t on the list but was heavily suggested during the build-up for the event was an appearance by Triple H. Disappointingly, we didn’t get that.

Why did Rollins even bring up the issue about his feud with the boss, if The Game had no intention of showing up at Roadblock? To sell tickets, that’s why. It was a case of name dropping, in order to get the fans to watch the PPV.

What did we get? Another partial Shield reunion moment. I’ll seriously advise the WWE to stop using those all the time. The Shield is not the Shield without Dean Ambrose. These little power bombs are cool but if they keep happening, the fans will grow accustomed to them and it will ruin the eventual Shield reunion in the future.

Triple H should have gotten involved in Seth’s business at Roadblock. That would have made for a great cliffhanger at the end of the WWE PPV year.

Roadblock End of The Line had its flashes of brilliance – the tag team titles match and the glorious return of Neville, for example. However, the overall quality of the PPV was quite mediocre. Hopefully, 2017 will have a great start that will make us forget the bad ending of 2016.
