The Mike Check – WWE WrestleMania 29 Predictions
Hello My Fellow PWManiacs and welcome to the Wrestlemania edition of The Mike Check. I am here to give you my predictions for WWE’s biggest show of the year, Wrestlemania 29. I would like to start things off with my overall opinion of the show itself based on whats on paper, and it is not a happy one. Usually, WWE has had over three months to build up the entire Wrestlemania card but sadly they have booked the biggest show of the year as if it was Over the Limit or Hell in the Cell. They focus on about four matches and just slap together some other matches on the fly to fill out the other 2 hours. That is not how Wrestlemania should be booked. You can count on one hand the number of matches that have been placed on the card within the last couple of weeks. Does anyone think that this is how Wrestlemania should be booked? Anyway, here are my predictions for the show…
WWE Championship Match
The Rock © vs John Cena
Here we go again! John Cena vs The Rock 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold! For the second time in WWE History, the same match is headlined by back to back Wrestlemania but Austin vs The Rock, this feud is not. The build for this years battle between John Cena and The Rock has lacked what it had last year. Instead of coming at each other with insults and banter, they have been stroking each others egos. There is nothing that makes this match different from their match last year, except for the outcome. Expect to see the same match that you saw one year ago but this time John Cena will be the one to get his hand raised and begin another boring and predictable run as WWE Champion. Do not be surprised if we are forced to see John Cena vs The Rock III at Wrestlemania 30 in the rubber match to determine who is truly better.
WINNER: John Cena
World Heavyweight Title Match
Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio
Jack Swagger has become a decent heel thanks to his involvement with Zeb Colter and his bigoted racism toward Alberto del Rio. Sometimes in pro wrestling, the bad guys have to win in order to make the good guy a bigger star and that is what needs to happen on Sunday. Alberto del Rio is better chasing the title than he is at being the champion. WWE needs to make Del Rio a more well-rounded face and becoming the defender of real American ideals, not just the defender of Mexico’s honor. Look for Swagger to win here and start building toward his vision of Jack Swagger’s America.
WINNER: Jack Swagger
WWE Tag Team Title Match
Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston vs. Kane and Daniel Bryan
I don’t really have much to say about this match other than it should not have been on the card. There are about 5 other tag teams that should have been given the opportunity to face the tag team champions at Wrestlemania rather than throwing Ziggler and his bodyguard into a match with them just to put them on the card. Kane and Daniel Bryan have run their course as Team Hell No and Ziggler needs something to do while he waits to become the World Champion by chasing in the Money in the Bank so everything seems to be in the cards for Team BigZigg, so smart move is on them to take the titles.
WINNER: Ziggler and Big E. Langston
No Holds Barred Match with Triple H’s Career On The Line
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
Shawn Michaels will be in Triple H’s corner
Can HHH not wrestle a match anymore if there is not some kind of stipulation attached to it? HHH vs Brock Lesnar….Good god, this match is going to be just as bad as Ryback vs Mark Henry. It is going to be a 20 minute match with these two just punching and clotheslining the hell out of each other before hitting their signature moves. WWE tried to shake things up this week by having HBK in HHH’s corner but HBK cannot save this match by just sitting in the corner. You can expect Lesnar to get into an altercation with Michaels during the match with the finish being HBK hitting the Superkick on Lesnar followed by HHH pedigreeing him to pick up the win and avenging his Summerslam loss.
CM Punk vs. The Undertaker
What would WWE have done with these two if Paul Bearer had not died? I am sure that the storyline would not have been as tasteless has it has been in the past months with CM Punk doing everything that he can in order to get cheap heat of the crowd. The simple fact of the matter is that no one is ever going to beat The Streak. It is the one constant in professional wrestling that cannot be tampered with. Expect a decent 20-25 mintue match out of these two with The Undertaker sending CM Punk to the grave yard with a Tombstone.
WINNER: The Undertaker
Sheamus, Big Show and Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns
Once again, The Shield is booked in a 6-man tag against a WWE Dream Team and I suspect that history is going to repeat itself on the biggest stage of them all. The Shield has defied all odds in beating the WWE biggest stars including John Cena in their path of dominance. The wild card in this match is Randy Orton. He has wanted to turn heel for months and there would be no greater time to do so than on Wrestlemania. Just when it looks like Team WWE is going to pull out the win, expect Randy Orton to hit an RKO out of nowhere onto The Big Show or Sheamus, allowing The Shield to pick up the win.
WINNERS: The Sheild
Ryback vs. Mark Henry
This match is going to be a trainwreck, there is no another way to describe it. From the houseshow matches that these two have been having, word is that this match is going to suck more than we all originally thought. This whole match is being set up so that Ryback can have a Wrestlemania moment, do a big show of strength against Mark Henry, and gain back the momentum that he has lost in recent months after losing matches to The Sheild. We all remember how much trouble Ryback had with Tensai on RAW a few months back, so what is he going to do with Mark Henry? Wherever he does, Ryback is going to win here.
Fandango vs. Chris Jericho
As said as it is to hear, Chris Jericho is near the bottom of the card at Wrestlemania and even worse, he is being used has enhancement talent. Chris Jericho will be facing the debuting Fandango. WWE seems fit to shove Fandango down our throats much in the way they did to Ryback but if there is anyone that can made Fandango look great in his debut, it would be Y2J. Johnny Curtis is a decent enough wrestler but he got stuck with a horrible Wrestlecrap gimmick because Vince McMahon thinks that the WWE Universe cares about Dancing with the Stars. I expect a decent match out of these two with Fandango picking up the win to help jumpstart his career as an active WWE Superstar.
Brodus Clay, Tensai, Cameron and Naomi vs. Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow and The Bella Twins
At the absolute bottom of the card, we have Team Tons of Funk vs The Rhodes Scholars and The Bella Twins. Why in the name of Thor is this match on the Wrestlemania card. If ever there was a show that did not deserve to be on Wrestlemania, this was it. Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes deserve better than this. As for the Bellas, I will leave their personal lives out of this predictions but we all know why they were hired back. Out of all of the Divas that WWE could have brought back, they bring back the two worst. The Bellas are horrible in the ring and even worse on the mic. This match has train wreck written all over it and this match deserve nothing more than to be a bathroom break for everyone watching. Expect Team Rhodes Scholars to pick up the win here and hopefully move toward finally getting the tag team titles away from Team Hell No.
WINNER: Team Rhodes Scholars
YouTube Pre-show WWE Intercontinental Title Match
The Miz vs. Wade Barrett
The fact that this match is on the preshow is a disgrace. The Miz headlined Wrestlemania 27 and now he isn’t even good enough to be on the show? This was the only match on the current card that I was looking forward to and if I didn’t have to cover the PPV, I would not feel one bit bad for just watching this match on the preshow and calling it a night. Barrett and The Miz are two main event caliber superstars that have been utterly wasted over the past 6 months. They have the capability to put on amazing matches and I hope that the WWE doesn’t rush them and allows them to show why WWE made a huge mistake in pulling this from the main show. I expect Wade Barrett to pull out the win as he need the win to help solidify if Intercontinental Championship reign.
WINNER: Wade Barrett
So this is Wrestlemania 29? This is the biggest show of the year? I personally would not shell out the $70, yes, $70 that WWE wants you to pay in order to see matches that have been slapped together and matches that we have seen before. If you really wanna use that $70, take your money and go out to dinner with your friends, family, or spouses. You will definitely get more value for your dollar that way.
