An Inside Look At WWE’s Latest Signee – Kevin Steen

Recently it was announced that former ROH & PWG World Champion Kevin Steen had signed with WWE. While there are alot of us who are familar with Mr. Wrestling, I’m sure there are many members of the WWE Universe who aren’t. And for that reason, I’d like to formally introduce the WWE Universe to “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare.”

Kevin Steen is a man who has been making a name for himself over the past decade on the Independent Scene. From PWG to ROH, he’s worked his ass off and dominated the scene. In 2005, he defeated AJ Styles to become the PWG World Champion. A belt he would go on to win again by defeating Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro) in 2011. In ROH, Steen made his name mainly as a tag team wrestler, but in 2012 he defeated current TNA superstar Davey Richards to become the ROH World Champion.

Just by looking at a few of his major accomplishments that I’ve listed above, you can probably already tell that Steen has a stacked resume. With victories over top tier talent such as AJ Styles, Cesaro, and Davey Richards in big match situations – Steen is no slouch.

While Steen’s world title wins are impressive, he is most known for his classic rivalry with El Generico (current NXT Superstar Sami Zayn). Steen and Generico produced one of the greatest rivalries in indepedent wrestling history that spanned nearly 10 years. It’s something every wrestling fan needs to check out.

From their first ever encounter in PWG in 2003 to their triumph as a Tag Team across the Indy Scene to their brutal matches over both the ROH & PWG World Titles – Kevin Steen and El Generico told a story that will be remembered forever.

Steen’s rivalry with Generico is a perfect example of how versatile of a wrestler he is. He can be technical, he can even do some high flying, and he sure as hell can brawl. There’s not many competitors of his size that can do all three of those styles so proficiently, but he can and that’s why he’s earned the nickname of “Mr. Wrestling.” While he is proficient in many styles, he is also very unorthodox as he tends to bite his opponents in the heat of battle to inflict punishment. Things like this make Steen a one of a kind athlete.

Beyond his outstanding abilites in the ring, Steen is well known for his trash talking and amazing work on the microphone. He can invoke serious emotion, but be funny at the same time. He’s a storyteller. When he gets a microphone in his hands, he commands your attention because you NEVER know what’s going to come out of his mouth. He’s controversial and unpredictable which is always a big draw.

If you’ve never seen or heard Kevin Steen then you’re in for a treat when he makes his debut in WWE. I can honestly say that there is NO ONE like him in the company and that will definitely play to his advantage. I firmly believe that Kevin Steen is the next big star in WWE and that in a few years from now, he’ll be maineventing PPV’s. He has the talent to do so and as a long time fan, I look forward to seeing what he will accomplish on the world’s biggest platform for wrestling.

Only time will tell what impact Steen will make on the WWE, but I’m sure it will be a big one. He’s basically the Anti-Cena of professional wrestling and could care less what anyone thinks off him. He’s a controversial, brute brawler who cannot be stopped.

So, WWE Universe, prepare yourselves – Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare is coming!
