Backstage News on Possible Pay-Per-View Plans for Chris Jericho, His Feud with Bray Wyatt

chris-jericho-f

There was talk of doing The Miz vs. Chris Jericho at this month’s Battleground pay-per-view and saving Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt for SummerSlam in August.

With Jericho confirmed to be back through September, his only major feud will be with Bray Wyatt. The idea behind the feud is that Jericho elevates Wyatt before taking another hiatus.

As noted, Miz vs. Jericho has been announced for Monday’s RAW.

would’ve thought they’d do Wyatt Family vs Y2J & Usos.

I hope they don’t kill of the Miz with a loss after acquiring a new gimmick, one that suits him very well. Then again Y2J can’t lose unless it was due to interference or something by the Wyatts. He needs to look strong and credible before entering SummerSlam

I understand the deal that Jericho has with WWE & that he’s fine with it & losses in matches and feuds at this point in his career doesn’t even hurt or discredit him, but I’m not a fan of him (& RVD) just being “elevators” but at the same time I understand it. They’ve reached that point where they can help the newer stars which is awesome but they’re both still great competitors .

  • Monkey D. Luffy

The actual match may have lost a lot of it’s interest given the outcome is very predictable, Y2J only serves to ‘elevate’ unlike he who shall not be named. It really sucks since i would’ve preferred seeing him on one last run with the WWEWHC title.

    • thesmarktank

If you really look at what happened, besides winning the Rumble, Bluetista only elevated Bryan at Mania and The Shield at Extreme Rules and Payback. I think the idea to have him win the title came from management and was not a request from him.

      • Monkey D. Luffy

I was referring to Cena but i like your point too :)

        • thesmarktank

Well, Cena, we’ll differ on. Cena tries to make a lot of guys look good. He doesn’t really sell, but I think its because he sucks at it, not that he refuses to. And I don’t think he’s pushing to win as much as he does, but kids wanna see him win, so its a guaranteed way to satisfy some fans… and upset others! That’s a win-win. But even tho guys like Sandow didn’t get to win his MITB match, that was still prob Sandow’s best match and feud of his career. Ball was dropped afterwards.

Duh. Y2J is essentially saving the Wyatt family from the Cena/Uso debacle of a feud.

  • Jason

I dont want to be “That guy” but wasn’t this the same thing WWE did for Ryback to elevate him after this whole thing with Punk and Cena? Yeah and look how that turned out

    • Joey Slater

Not really, when Y2J ‘feuded’ with Ryback, Ryback went from being majorly over, to pretty much being forcefully turned into a heel, Y2J couldn’t really do anything with Ryback because he was already ‘damaged goods’
While with Bray, it’s different, Bray hasn’t had the issues of being really over, to an unneeded heel turn, if anything, coming out of the Cena feud, Bray looked really strong, even though he lost, he came away looking like a star, I’m not saying it was the right thing for Bray to lose, but he hasn’t been damaged by the losses, at least not in the eyes of the tv/casual crowds, going over Y2J gives Wyatt a different platform, I’m sure this will just help to completely solidify the ‘waiting to break into the main event’ moniker I’d currently label him with, and then, when the time is right, he’ll be elevated into a full time main event guy..

    • thesmarktank

If you recall the Jericho/Ryback feud, Ryback was given the worst treatment of a talent I’ve ever seen. They actually nicknamed him Cryback, he would in fact cry and coward away from matches… Of course that didn’t help him. This will be different.

  • jmull

Since Y2J is always expected to “elevate” the other guy when he comes back, it no longer works. He has got to win sometimes to remain credible.

    • thesmarktank

I agree. He does get wins on Raw and such, but I think his only win in 2013 on PPV was the Fandango rematch.

    • Cena’s Cargo Shorts

I think his history keeps him from being seen as a jobber. At this point, it’s less about whether Y2J is seen as being the same as Daniel Bryan or Cena, and more about giving Bray Wyatt more opportunities to put on five star matches that get the fans even more excited about him. It’s probably more about creating another of those “what did I just see?” sorts of moments fans have when they watch matches that really get a guy over to the next level.

Jericho is one of those very thoughtful wrestlers that thinks about how to make an angle make sense, which is helpful considering that WWE writers tend to be very haphazard. He can figure out a wrestler’s strengths and weaknesses and makes sure that a match plays up to his opponent’s strengths and does his best not to expose their weaknesses as a performer.

In that sense, what Y2J does works. It’s less about him and more about quality matches and helping new guys learn and get to the next level.

      • jmull

        Good point.

Dolph Ziggler is a lost cause and WWE should send him down to NXT to job to Adrian Neville for a couple of months before redebuting Dolph as The Red Rooster Jr. so he can cut passionate promos of himself going COCKADOODLEDOO and he can finally get rid of his pink homoerotic ring gear. The WWE will never trust him due to his sloppy work which ends up with him getting a concussion every couple of months… If they dont send Dolph down to NXT then they should just release him after he jobs out to younger talent for the next few months.

    • thesmarktank

Let’s get rid of that Bray Wyatt guy too. He’s just not getting over.

John Cena vs Kane is going to tear the house down. Its a shame they have less than 20 minutes if not i would say it would easily be a MOTY contender. Guys like Ziggler and Rollins open up the show and do their little flippy stuff to impress the children in the crowd but guys like John Cena and Kane are the reasons the arenas sell out everywhere they go and real wrestling fans know that John Cena and Kane are living legends in this business and its a privlege everytime we get to see them in action.

I hope RVD sqashes that overrated balding Swiss jobber. Cesaro has failed at every gimmick he has had. First he was a rugby player that was Aksanas love interest, then he was very European, then he was a yoddler and he failed at ALL of them. Real Americans worked because of Zeb and Swagger. How many chances is Cesaro going to get? I dont see Heyman doing much for Cesaro. Curtis Axel and Ryback have more pure wrestling ability than Cesaro and Heyman did him no good.Thats whats wrong with Cesaro, his little swing is not realistic and causes no damage. It is just a chance for smarks in the crowd to participate by counting the swings. All Cesaro has is his swing, the Neutralizer, and a bunch of European Uppercuts..yawn

October 23, 1996 was the most significant day of the Monday Night Wars because it was the debut of the nWo head of security Vincent. Vincent also known as Virgil in the WWF is the most underrated wrestler of all time. Vincent was one the best workers of the early 90s and i think he should have at least gotten a run with the U.S. Title. Once Vincent joined the nWo Nitros ratings starting going through the roof and his presence added the credability to the nWo that had been missing. Vincent aka Virgil for 2015 HOF!

    • thesmarktank

      I’ll second this.

      • pik

        Thank You! Vincent/Virgil for 2015 H.O.F.!
