Biography
The era of "the big red
machine" Kane: In the summer of 1997, Undertaker was about to have a major
opposition. When Paul Bearer started threatening Undertaker with the debut of
his half-brother Kane. It first started with a necklace with a wooden knickknack
on it. Kane was supposed to be a burn victim who was burned as a child. Bearer
kept up his taunting angle all summer long and it wasn't until October that we'd
see him for the first time, since he graduated from dental school and gave up
his Diesel gimmick ; ) He first came to the
WWE
in October and made his devastating debut at BaddBlood '98 (now called No Mercy)
where he tombstoned Undertaker allowing Shawn Michaels the win. Undertaker and
Michaels had wrestled previously at Ground Zero in your house ® and this was a
rematch for the number one contendership. Kane had shocked the world. Kane made
a tremendous debut by tearing the steel cage door down and interfering. And not
only had he showed up, but also, Paul Bearer came with him. He not only came
with him as a manager but as Kane's supposed father. Meaning Kane and Undertaker
were half brothers. Kane came with the unique attire of a mask, which covered up
his scars on his face. Kane quickly gained recognition as a "monster". Back then
of course, WWE
gave Kane a lot more powers to make his gimmick more believable.
In fact on his first Raw, he
double choke-slammed the Hardy Boyz. Kane also made a wwe employee burn on fire
and had lighting strike in the arena. There was no doubt Kane was an unbeatable
force. At Royal Rumble '98 Kane appeared once again, by interfering in
Undertaker's championship match against Michaels. When the undertaker was in the
coffin, Kane torched it on fire, therefore, making a big impact in that match.
Kane, tried to aggravate the Undertaker as much as he could to try and get a
match. However he was unsuccessful, until Wrestle Mania X4 when Undertaker
challenged him. They fought aggressively and performed very well. Kane was
pretty offensive because it took Undertaker approx. three tombstones to get the
win. At one point in the match, Undertaker jumped off the ring post and onto
Kane who was on the table. Kane then fought Undertaker in an Inferno match at
Unforgiven '98, where Undertaker won. This was an unnecessary rematch, because
the idea of them taking each other on in the ring became old.
However, also that year, Kane
went on to defeat Steve Austin for the
WWE title at King of the
Ring '98. Where it was a cage match, while also being a "first blood"
stipulation. Kane got this right to face Austin after yet again, defeating
Undertaker on Raw with the assistance of Mankind. At their match at King of the
Ring, Undertaker came down and actually hit Austin with a chair, therefore,
making him bleed and giving Kane the win. The reason for this was because; Kane
had threatened to kill himself if he didn't win.
Kane held the title for one
day, when Austin challenged him the next night on Raw. Kane was about to give
Austin the tombstone, when Austin fought back and reversed it into a stunner.
Later that fall, Kane was given yet another title shot along with Undertaker
taking on Austin in a triple threat match at Breakdown in your house. Where Both
Kane and Undertaker won, via a double pin fall, leading to Judgment Day in your
house '98 where Paul Bearer turned on him to join the Undertaker. No victor in
that match either.
Therefore, making their roles
reversed, by having the Undertaker heel. Kane helped Austin defeat Undertaker in
the Buried Alive match at Rock Bottom in your house in '98. Being possibly his
appearance as a true baby face for the first time ever. Kane, later that year,
turned heel, yet again, and joined the corporation with Chyna. However, Kane was
soon kicked out when Triple H joined at WMX5. Kane then started having managers
or valets to accompany him to the ring. He teamed up with X-Pac for quite a
while. Kane teamed up with X-Pac for numerous times winning the tag titles, they
were displayed as baby faces in the
WWE. That team was
completely over with the fans time in and time out.
However, when DX reunited, it
became odd for Kane and X-Pac as a team because, they both knew X-Pac was DX
material, although Sean tried to convince Kane that he wasn't officially
joining, however, as time would have it, he turned on Kane in a match with the
Dudley Boyz.
Kane became an emotional wreck, after these events. Therefore, creating a chain
of matches where they both defeated each other every now and then. Kane then got
a new friend, a valet named Torri. The
WWE
posed her his "girlfriend" for quite sometime, even though in reality, he was a
married man.
However, she turned on him to
join X-Pac later on. After, these people turned heel on Kane, for a brief
period, Paul Bearer returned good and managed Kane very briefly! Of course, for
a long period of timing Kane was all on his own until heading in to '01 Kane and
Undertaker started teaming up as a tag team. However, they turned on each other
from time to time. Kane now is currently posed as a baby face and is on Raw,
where he sports the Intercontinental championship. Kane was injured previously
when he was working out and injured his arm forcing himself to take time off.
Perhaps now Kane will be on the road to a bright illustrious future. It appears
as though WWE has a lot of confidence in him. Specially Jim Ross for that
matter.
