Daniel Bryan’s Long Road To Becoming WWE Champion At WrestleMania XXX

daniel-bryan5

The above “Occupy RAW” segment from Monday’s WWE RAW, will be looked back at years from now as the pivotal point to the start of the Daniel Bryan Era in the WWE. Whether WWE planned this storyline, or if they were forced to make “creative changes” because of the negative feedback from the fans, the payoff at WrestleMania XXX will be epic. It has been a long road for Daniel Bryan, full of twists and turns, but it seems that the WWE has finally gotten this right. Lets take a look at the key dates and moments Daniel Bryan had last year, starting with WrestleMania 29.

WrestleMania 29 – April 7th, 2013
Daniel Bryan and Kane had gotten over with the WWE Universe as Team Hell No, and were the Tag Team Champions going into WrestleMania 29. They successfully defended their titles against Dolph Ziggler and Big E at the pay-per-view.

Extreme Rules – May 19th, 2013
Team Hell No lose to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns of The Shield, and drop the titles after being champions for 245 days. This would open the door for Daniel Bryan to break out on his own.

Money In The Bank – July 14th, 2013
Daniel Bryan was in the RAW Money In The Bank Match, but was attacked by Curtis Axel (who wasn’t even a participant in the match). This prevented him from winning the contract, which Orton eventually won.

Monday Night RAW – July 15th, 2013
The next night at RAW, WWE Champion John Cena chooses Daniel Bryan to be his opponent at the next pay-per-view SummerSlam.

SummerSlam – August 18th, 2013
Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena to win his first WWE Championship. However, the title reign was short lived, as the special guest referee Triple H attacked Bryan from behind and hit him with his Pedigree finisher. Randy Orton cashed in his MITB contract, and became the new WWE Champion. This is the beginning of Daniel Bryan being constantly screwed by the WWE, The Authority and Randy Orton.

Night Of Champions – September 15th, 2013
Daniel Bryan defeated Randy Orton to regain the WWE Championship, and his second title reign would begin.

Monday Night Raw – September 16th, 2013
The next night on RAW, Bryan is stripped of the title by Triple H, after referee Scott Armstrong admitted he made a “fast-count” at the pay-per-view the night before. Both of Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship reigns lasted less than 24 hours.

Battleground – October 6th, 2013
Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton square off for the vacant WWE Title. Their match ends in a “No Contest” after The Big Show comes down to the ring and knocks out both men. The title is still vacant, and the fans are becoming tired of the way Daniel Bryan is being booked.

Hell In A Cell – October 27th, 2013
The WWE Championship will be determined inside of the Hell In A Cell structure, and marks the third pay-per-view main event match between Bryan and Orton. Once again, Bryan is robbed of the title when the special guest referee Shawn Michaels Super Kicked Bryan for attacking his best friend Triple H. Randy Orton wins the title.

)

That would be the last time we would see Daniel Bryan compete for the WWE Championship. It was reported at the time, that the pay-per-view buyrates were down, and so were the ratings for RAW, which was blamed on Daniel Bryan being in the main event at the time. There were also rumors of Vince McMahon not endorsing Daniel Bryan, feeling he didn’t have the “WWE look,” and perhaps too short. John Cena would return back to the WWE earlier than expected from his tricep injury, and was back in the main event picture feuding with Randy Orton. Daniel Bryan was thrown back into the mid card section, and would feud with all three members of The Wyatt Family. Eventually, Daniel Bryan acknowledged the long road he endured, and said that it didn’t matter how many times the fans chanted “Yes” and supported him, it wasn’t enough for “the machine.” Bryan would join The Wyatt Family temporarily, before turning on them weeks later.

Daniel Bryan’s popularity after breaking from The Wyatt Family was at an all time high in the WWE, and he couldn’t be ignored any longer. Fans thought for sure that Daniel Bryan would enter the 2014 Royal Rumble match, and would be the last man standing, and would finally be on his way to WrestleMania XXX, fighting for the WWE Championship again. However, Bryan wasn’t even entered into the Rumble match, which caused an uproar with the fans and even past WWE Superstars. WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley even blasted WWE for the poor booking, and couldn’t understand why Daniel Bryan was not in the Royal Rumble match. Bryan would take to his official Twitter account to comment on the entire situation:

After months of being screwed out of the WWE Title, and being removed from the title picture all together, WWE finally got it right this past Monday on RAW. Whether WWE planned this long term story line for Daniel Bryan, or if they finally saw the error in their ways, Daniel Bryan will have his day at WrestleMania XXX. What better way for Daniel Bryan to go over, then with a victory over Triple H, the man who has stood in his way all this time. An irate Triple H would have to watch the “B+” wrestler Daniel Bryan compete in the main event for the WWE Championship. How sweet will it be when Daniel Bryan pins either Randy Orton or Batista, and becomes the champion? The long road will end at WrestleMania XXX, with Daniel Bryan finally raising the WWE Championship, with confetti falling down from the SuperDome in New Orleans, and 70,000 plus fans yelling “Yes! Yes! Yes!” It will be worth the wait.

  • Jt Segur

Yes thanks to vince interfering in hhh match :)

    • Enzo Marino

I’m not sure if Vince gets involved? The best way to put him over are clean victories over HHH and Orton. Then it could set up a feud with him and Batista after Mania, where Batista says he was never pinned?

  • yea

    “B+” player…. A++ wrestler

    • Enzo Marino

Daniel Bryan has always been an excellent wrestler, but he now is good on the mic too. He used to be nervous, but now he controls his moment, just like he did on RAW. A+ player!

  • chessarmy

Really great article, Bryan’s road to the top has been incredible to watch. I hope it ends with him lifting up the WWE World Title at Mania XXX – any other ending to that PPV/Network special will be a complete let down

    • Enzo Marino

Exactly. After months of chasing the title, it only makes since he wins it at the biggest PPV.

  • Bryan Thomas

That occupy segment wasn’t even good. The high point was when stephanie lost her temper. I love daniel bryan but i miss cm punk

    • Enzo Marino

I disagree, that segment was genius! The WWE used all the “Hijack RAW” rumors and turned it into a storyline with the “Occupy RAW” movement. It goes to show that WWE does keep in tune with the IWC. But I do agree that Stephanie yelling was the best part of the segment. Her inner Vince McMahon came out!

      • Bryan Thomas

I wouldn’t say genius. All they did was stand in the ring and shout yes. Yet and still, i’m glad he’s main eventing WM.

        • Siddharth Tripathi

Bryan thomas…….You are feeling the same due to dead Memphis crowd. Imagine a same plot set up last week at chicago, Those crowd must blows out HHH , Stephnie with their Chants !!!
After watching this segment, the only regret i have that wwe made it late by 1 week.

          • Bryan Thomas

But really? We go from pipelines to a bunch of people standing in the ring shout yes and no? . I was hoping for a segment where bryan gets his hands on HHH, and kicks is head in and make him tap, then HHH gets angry afterwards and challenges him. It would’ve at least made it a bit more intense instead of PG

          • Siddharth Tripathi

As expected if bryan is going over at HHH, then in upcoming 3 RAWs, Expect HHH to dominate bryan badly. Also Next Week , i,m expecting HHH to come forward to put some Addons in match type like NO DQ or HIAC to make this feud intense.

**I still Feel HHH feels bad when he won last year mania against brock n Crowd was almost dead. So this year, he himself put in a match in which crowd is most involved.

  • James Humwood

I love how everyone assumes he’s gonna win at mania lol listen I love bryan but never trust wwe they will screw you over and over

    • Enzo Marino

There is no way that Daniel Bryan doesn’t win the WWE title at Mania! That is where all the monumental title eras begin. HBK over Bret Hart at WM 12, “The boyhood dream comes true.” Austin over HBK at WM 14 and Jim Ross proclaiming that the Austin Era has begun. The same thing will happen at WM 30, the Daniel Bryan Era in the WWE will begin.

    • Bryan Thomas

You’re absolutely right. Never get your hopes up with wwe. Althought bryan will most likely be in the main event, doesn’t change the fact those two spazes are still in it because haven’t properly built great heel out anybody else

  • Jake Waller

Dbry reminds me much like Benoit, small, but very much a good technical wrestler, both very well known for their submissions. It look benoit years and years to be considered anywhere near the title.

I also feel like WWE are trying to hide the fact dbry was world heavyweight champ.. dbry needs to come out and say something along the lines of “b+ player? I held one of the titles for X amount of days, defeating henry and show in a steel cage, bla bla… would be a pretty good promo leading into WM!

  • Siddharth Tripathi

Dream Build for Daniel Bryan at WM 30:
    1) Tripleh Vs Bryan : NO Holds barred, NO DQ Match
During the match, when bryan was about to hit his finisher, NAO appears and attack Bryan. Vince and Steph also comes in the ring, bryan is surrounded by HHH family and friends beating him. Crowd boos. Triple H orders Rodd dogg to bring his Sledgehammer to finish off Bryan, NAO Hold bryan n HHH is ready to hit bryan with hammer, Vince shouts just KILL THE YES MOVEMENT FOREVER!!!
HBK Music Hits, Crowd erupts, He came n saves Bryan, Superkick NAO, Thows vince off the ring.n goes back…HHH is Shocked n stunned.., His best friend turned on him, As soon he turned back, Bryan hit running knee…1,2,3…Bryan Wins…

But its not over yet, NAO attacked Bryan, HHH Hit him with Hammer. He tells bryan, you wont be able to compete in mania, Your game is Over !!! Bryan is out of the arena on Ambulance. JBL Says, He dont thinks now bryan will compete in Mania main event

    2) Bryan vs Orton vs Batista : Orton n batista came to ring. Bryan music hits but he didnt appeared n match started. After 15mins, Camera is shown outside the arena…Bryan comes out bleeding n limping, Crowd Goes Nuts, Orton and Batista are shocked. Bryan music hits n here he comes like a Wounded Tiger bruised all over. Finally after 20 mins , Bryan Threw batista off the ring, Randy try RKO but Bryan escapes puts in yes Lock….Orton Taps….Bryan Wins….70,000 New orleans crowd on their feets chanting YES Chants. Bryan registers one of the most memorable WM moment.

Do you like it Guys? I know its looks like bryan is Super Hero but again He conquered this victory with the help of HBK.
