Dave Scott – Alberto Del Boring

Hey there guys Dave Scott here for my usual Monday night jibber-jabber. I’m going to just cut to the chase this week and leave the Q&A out of things. I said I was going to write about the Bret Hart and Mr Perfect matches and do a comparison but haven’t got round to it yet unfortunately, so hopefully midweek will have it all watched and written up!

I hope you all enjoyed Summerslam everyone who watched it but this week I’m going to talk about something that I touch on quite often on Twitter and in my columns and pretty much every time that I see the guy. What I’m going to talk about is how I’m bored of Alberto Del Rio.

This has been something that I have been thinking since they pushed him to the stars with winning the Money In The Bank ladder match and Royal Rumble last year. I mean at first when Del Rio came into the WWE I had high hopes for him, but WWE acted very prematurely with him pushing him up the roster and it has hurt him in the long run.

First off lets start with Royal Rumble. Now if you look at the people who have won the Royal Rumble it is pretty much a who’s who of WWE. You have some of the greatest superstars on that list, you have Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Edge, Randy Orton, Batista, Rey Mysterio, The Rock, Vince McMahon, Yokozuna, John Cena, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Big John Studd, Sheamus, Lex Luger and Brock Lesnar. Now out of that entire list I don’t think Del Rio fits in there or will ever fit in there.

I am all for giving a young guy a push, but he has got to have “it”. Del Rio doesn’t have “it”, he is pretty good in the ring, however he cuts some of the most boring promos ever and there isn’t really anything original to his character. Also when he won the Rumble he went on to lose at Wrestlemania which was the right thing because he wasn’t ready for the title. However a few months later they have him go for Money In The Bank, which is a bit better because at least with that he can build his character but no they didn’t do that as the following month he cashed in at Summerslam on Punk which seemed so pointless as just over a month later he lost the title.

Now correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t all this sound like panic booking? WWE knows deep down that he did not work in the main event or with the WWE title so they didn’t have him win at Wrestlemania and they had him lose the WWE title extremely quickly and talking panic booking he won the title again and lost it after a month… again!

Unfortunately he injured himself shortly after this and he was gone for a few months, but when he returned he came straight back into the World Heavyweight title picture. Since then we have had Alberto Del Rio feuding against Sheamus since then, which if I’m being honest I feel as if it has been doing for ages but hasn’t really gone anywhere. It has been boring, that matches haven’t been great and it is just making the World Heavyweight title look weak. While Del Rio has been involved with the title picture on Smackdown on Raw we have been getting to see some great matches for the WWE title over the last few months which have been great to watch. The only matches that I feel have been memorable since Wrestlemania for Sheamus’ title have been Ziggler vs Sheamus and the fatal four way at Over The Limit.

I was hoping that Del Rio would get moved away from the title picture for a while to progress his character a bit more, but after watching Summerslam and Raw it looks like we are going to more than likely have them involved with each other yet again for the next PPV. Which means from April 2nd when Del Rio returned up until at least late September, Sheamus and Del Rio would have been feuding. A six month feud these days is a complete lifetime, though if it is done correctly can work. Problem with this is that it has not been done well at all and I have not been interested in it to say the least.

In hindsight I feel that Del Rio needs to move down the card and maybe work towards a midcard title. Even putting him and Ricardo into the tag team division for a while could work. I just hope to god that they can move him away from the title picture soon as it isn’t benefiting him at all.

Well that is me for this week like I said hopefully I’ll be back during the week to write about Hart vs Mr Perfect. If not you’ll be hearing from me on a Monday as usual!

Please post your thoughts, comments and opinions below!

I have been saying this since he first debuted. Overrated and all they do is push him to the moon. Stupid.
