Dave Scott – The Good, The Bad & The CM Punk
Hey there guys, Dave Scott here with some sexy banter for your reading pleasure. Well we are a week off of the milestone 1000th episode of Raw and though I know a lot of people weren’t too happy with it, I thought it was really good and it done exactly what they had set it out to do in making a memorable show. The main point of my column today is going to be on the whole CM Punk situation.
The first point I would like to make is that CM Punk has turned heel. Whether people actually boo him or not is a different question, but this is WWE’s attempt at turning CM Punk heel. The biggest give away to this was Lawlers comment about Punk turning his back on the WWE Universe.
Though Punk has turned heel, I really do not think that turning him is the best option. He is one of the biggest sellers of merchandise and though there will be fans of CM Punk buying merch, the WWE’s main focus for merch is kids. Kids are always going to be their biggest market and when a heel turn happens, the main people that take notice of it are the children. For me to get confirmation of this, I asked my six year old nephew of what he thought of CM Punk’s actions from Raw and he said that CM Punk was an idiot and that he should have helped Cena and now he doesn’t like him for what he has done. So clearly WWE have done what they intended to do correctly, just most internet wrestling fans have looked into this far too much, as most of us like to do far too much.
Another reason that I don’t think it is a good idea is that WWE doesn’t seem to have an excessive amount of main event faces. You have Cena, Sheamus, Mysterio and Orton pretty much that are consistent main eventers, two of which haven’t been on TV regularly recently. You could also say Christian aswell but I don’t think WWE see main eventer and The Rock who doesn’t show up enough to manage to even things out. Where on the heel side of things you have Punk, Del Rio, Big Show, The Miz, Jericho, Kane, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, and Mark Henry. You also have Wade Barrett due to return who is said to be due a push and Cody Rhodes who I’m assuming at some point will be main eventing in the near future. I think they should have given someone a face turn before they turned anyone heel as it is a bit one sided. Though to be honest there is always the argument that Jericho looks to possibly be turning face and that Kane appears to be a bit of a tweener at this point in time.
Regardless of all this though, I do know for a fact that Punk will do a great job as a heel. I would love to see him get a stable together as I do feel that is one of the things that the WWE is missing currently is a decent stable and I have said this in the past. However we will get to see how this unfolds, it isn’t as huge a thing like Punk’s “pipe bomb” last year and the Nexus the year before, but I’m just hoping it gives us some good television!
Anyway that is me for this week guys, post your comments, thoughts and opinions below! As always, you can catch me on Twitter tonight for some Raw related banter.
