Dave Scott w/ FATP & Friends: Royal Rumble Predictions

arena-5

Hey there guys! Dave Scott back for some monthly predictions from me and some friends of mine.

Last month we had the TLC PPV and here is the points so far based on correct predictions from the last two months.

George – 9
Graeme – 8
KreSade – 8
Jordan – 8
Phil – 7
Phil – 7

Before we go into it though me and Phil have been working on a podcast which has taken up a lot of my time. It would be much appreciated if you guys could give it a listen at:

http://rowdyroddypodcast.podomatic.com

and follow us on Twitter: @RowdyRoddyPodUK

It is definitely not PG and it involves me getting drunker and drunker throughout the three and a half hours, however there is some good stuff on there about the Royal Rumble and I’m really looking forward to doing another one soon!

So with that being said lets move onto the predictions!

Pre-Show on YouTube – WWE United States Championship Match: Antonio Cesaro (c) vs The Miz

Dave

I say this every month and I’ll say it again, I am still not incredible impressed with Cesaro. He is good but not great, hopefully that will come with time though. With this match though I’m looking at it from the point of who should be beat Cesaro for the title and their isn’t really any babyfaces on the roster at the US title level who would benefit at this stage, there is plenty of heels but not faces. However if they are aiming to push The Miz then this could possibly be a good way. But I have to go with my gut and I think this one goes to Cesaro!

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

George

I’m a huge fan of Cesaro’s. Dude is built like a brick shithouse and he’s incredibly strong. I mean he was able to get Khali up for the Neutraliser. Kenny from Inside the Ropes would put that down to great selling on the part of the Punjabi Playboy, but Cesaro essentially indulged in a spot of caber tossing to get that move done! Cesaro is being built up slowly to be a main-eventer, and he’ll draw huge because he’s a great heel. It’s not a surprise to see Miz involved with him either. Miz will help Cesaro on the mic, and Miz is coming into his own as a babyface. It’s a slow burn, but the pay-off should be huge. I just hope that Flair is kept well away from Miz. It’ll distract people from Miz. In terms of who will win, I don’t see Cesaro losing the belt any time soon, so Antonio Cesaro retains in what should be a nice opener to proceedings.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

Graeme

Cesaro to retain. The Miz doesn’t need it, and Cesaro should keep the strap to remain relevant.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

KreSade

I pick Cesaro to win. I see no reason for the Miz to win.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

Phil

Nice to see the US title has found it’s way back to the pre-show (grim). Anyway I’m a mark for Cesaro and think he’s retaining here. Been loving his run even though the fans aren’t taking to him because the evil foreigner vs USA gimmick has been done to death but hey…. at least it’s not like Miz trying to be face. Oh wait. Anyway WWE want to keep Miz look relatively decent so we’ll probably get a screwy finish.

Winner: Miz (by DQ which means Cesaro retains).

Jordan

I think The Miz will win as he is promoting a movie and also he is awesome!

Winner: The Miz

WWE Tag-Team Championship Match: Team Hell No (c) vs Rhodes Scholars

Dave

I have been saying for a long time that I though Hell No would split up at Royal Rumble and nothing has changed to be honest. I think they will lose the titles and then one of them will eliminate the other in the Royal Rumble match.

Winners: Rhode Scholars

George

This match was really tough to call. I love Rhodes Scholars, but especially Sandow. His beard is a thing of beauty, but Cody’s moustache (clap clap clap, clap clap clap) is just a bad joke. If you can’t grow one, don’t try. Jesus. Anyway, Rhodes Scholars have fantastic chemistry. Their mic work is some of the best in and around the midcard, and their in-ring work is better than average. The problem is that they’ve come up against the comedy juggernaut of Kryan (Team Hell No). Honestly, I’ve no fucking idea how Daniel Bryan and Kane manage to keep a straight face during their promos/skits. I’d be fucking howling with laughter. The dysfunctional tag champs Kryan/Team Hell No should have just enough to retain the belts, so I’ll go with them to win.

Winners: Team Hell No

Graeme

Hell No have had their run and “graduated”. It’s time to give Rhodes Scholars a bump.

Winner: Rhode Scholars

KreSade

I think at this point I wouldn’t mind Kane and Bryan done with. It’s run Its course. So I wouldn’t mind Rhodes Scholars winning.

Winner: Rhode Scholars

Again (as said on the Podcast) it’s time for Rhodes and Sandow to get the titles and go over. They’ve had a few cracks at it now and haven’t won yet. It’s time to give them it.

Winners: Rhode Scholars

Jordan

Rhode Scholars will get the win here. I think Kane and Bryan will split at the Rumble to lead onto a match at Wrestlemania.

Winners: Rhode Scholars

Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs Big Show

Dave

I don’t think it would make much sense for Del Rio to lose the title so soon, but how will he find a way to beat Big Show in a title match again? Plus I’m think Ryback and Big Show at Wrestlemania so Ryback can have his Wrestlemania moment. So for this I’m going to go out on a limb and go for Big Show.

Winner: Big Show

George

It pains me to say it, but I think we’ll get another successful title defence here. I wrote about this entire situation the other day here, and I just don’t understand why Del Rio is champion. He can get it done between the ropes, but his character is just a shambles from top to bottom. If you took the belt and Ricardo Rodriguez away from del Rio, would anyone give a shit? No. That’s why he shouldn’t be champion. Then we come to the Big Show. Urgh… There’s no part of me that enjoys watch a Big Show match. He just batters his opponent for 20 minutes, then gets outsmarted and loses. That’s how it works. I’ve no problem with the big fella being used in the main-event, because he’s an established guy and makes his opponents look credible, but he shouldn’t be World Champion at this stage in his career. That’s why Alberto Del Rio will retain. I hate myself for typing that.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Graeme

Del Rio. His face turn has been well-accpeted and keeping the belt would help that. Big show just lost the strap and he doesn’t need it back.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

KreSade

I see Alberto Del Rio winning. I would be better for Rio to get the rub over Show. As show is past his prime and Rio is now just starting to get hotter.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Phil

As I said on the epic first episode of the Rowdy Roddy Podcast with “Dangerous” Dave Scott (PLUG PLUG PLUG! LISTEN TO IT! Listen here!), Del Rio wins. He’s only just became the champion and I can’t see them taking it off him already especially with the chat that WWE want to make Del Rio the #1 babyface for their Latino fans.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Jordan

I hate Big Show and Del Rio equally as much as one another, so I’ll pick Big Show as he has been around for so long! I could see him going into a feud with Ryback after this.

Winner: Big Show

WWE Championship Match: CM Punk (c) vs The Rock

Dave

Well with this one there is who I think will win and who I want to win. I want Punk to win, but I can’t see The Rock not winning and I hope to god that I’m wrong! It does make more sense having The Rock as the champion as it will create a huge media buzz. Also there isn’t really anyone just now that I would like to see CM Punk lose to, so The Rock would probably be the most fitting person for him to lose it to.

Winner: The Rock

George

So, we’ve had roughly 6 months of build towards this and it’s been rammed in to the last 3 weeks of TV. Punk is an outstanding champion and definitely the best in the world right now. His in-ring work is amazing and he’s just untouchable on the mic. By Rock, Cena or anyone else. The promo he cut on Rock after wrestling a 20-minute TLC match was fantastic. To come out and cut a promo like that after being through a TLC match with Rob van Goldberg, then go toe-to-toe with Rock on the mic after that just shows how good Punk is. Legit Best in the World. Now we get to The Rock. The People’s Champ. Man of 1,000 catchphrases. It’s amazing how fickle some wrestling fans are. They bitched for years that Rock never came back, but as soon as he did, they bitched it “wasn’t original”. What do you expect? Hardly anyone in WWE is original, especially at Rock’s level. Has Rock been brilliant since he returned this time? No, but he’s been better than 95% of the roster. In saying that, I’m getting bored of his Rock Concerts. They only work best when he’s a heel. That’s when Rock is at his best. Rock is also a tremendous babyface. The way he sells his opponents’ moves makes you think he’s being killed. That’s what a babyface is supposed to do, instead of no-selling a 20-minute ass-kicking. As far as the result goes, I just don’t see CM Punk dropping the belt to Rock. Punk and Heyman will have some sort of plan to make sure that CM Punk retains the WWE Championship as we head towards next month’s Elimination Chamber.

Winner: CM Punk

Graeme

This is the trickiest one for me by far.
Punk could keep the title and take it to ‘Mania because Rock v Cena doesn’t need a title to draw but and his streak shouldn’t be ended by a part-timer, on the other hand, the Rock is The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment and his having the belt in the run-up to Wrestlemania could boost ratings… I’m going to go for Punk

Winner: CM Punk

KreSade

I pick the Rock. It’s been 10 years. It would mean more for the WWE publicity that one of Hollywood’s biggest actors to hold that title. Imagine watching a movie like G.I. Joe and see the WWE title sitting in the background somewhere.

Winner: The Rock

Phil

Punk’s run as champion has definitely built him up brilliantly. It’s now to the the point where when they end his run, it has to be a big deal. Along comes The Rock and we’ve got our “big deal”. Could you imagine if Punk retains? Who does he go on to feud with next? Another feud with Cena? Nothing that spectacular or out of the ordinary if John takes the title back for the 1053241th time.
I reluctantly admit it’s time to end Punk’s reign. It’s been good but The Rock pulls in money for the company and it might spark the interest of a few of the casual fans to come back and watch more often.

Winner: The Rock

Jordan

I would say The Rock because I’m 99% sure that he will win. Unless he loses and becomes an entrant in the Rumble match! So based on that I’m going to go with CM Punk to win!

Winner: CM Punk

30-Man Royal Rumble

Dave

I think The Rock winning is incredibly obvious and Cena seems obvious also, however I think WWE will want to throw a spanner in the works with either the Rumble match or Punk and Rock. I think this match is a bit more likely for that. I think Ryback will be dominant throughout and eventually get the win leading onto him going for the World Heavyweight title.

Winner: Ryback

George

Urgh… It’s so obvious that Cena is winning this match to set up a WrestleMania rematch with The Rock. He’ll come in as one of the last 10 entrants and it’ll probably come down to him and Ryback to see who gets the title shot. I don’t like it, but I understand why WWE will do it. Other contenders in the match will be Dolph Ziggler. He’ll be the workhorse, go for about 45 minutes and steal the show, but just come up short. I don’t think Randy Orton or Sheamus will do too much, same with Kane. Definite dark horses for this one are Daniel Bryan and Cesaro (if they’re in the match as I suspect they will be). Like I said, I just don’t see there being any way that John Cena doesn’t win this, especially since he’s not won a PPV match since last July. I hate to say it, but my pick is John Cena

Winner: John Cena

Graeme

Ryback. He needs a PPV win, and he’s a believable winner.

Winner: Ryback

KreSade

I am leaning towards Cena winning. That is the way they are building it. I would love to see Ryback win though. It would fit him more that he went through 30 other guys to win. Does John Cena really need to win the RR to go to WM and headline at this point in his career hasn’t he earned it. He could still face The Rock and Ryback can face whoever is World champion. Which I wouldn’t mind Ryback vs Ziggler.

Winner: John Cena

Phil

Another one I threw out there on the podcast but I’ll echo it here. Ryback is gonna win the match and face Big Show at Wrestlemania. Show will get the title back (likely at the Chamber) and to help put Ryback over really strong they’ll have Ryback hit him with the Shellshock in the Wrestlemania opener. It seems to be the ultimate impressive feat to get over when you have a finisher which involves hoisting your opponent on your shoulders. Put ‘em with Big Show.

Winner: Ryback

Jordan

I think The Rock will lose his match and then get entry into the Rumble match and go on to win that like I said with my prediction for the last match!

Winner: The Rock
