Death of Wrestling: All Hail The Shield

Skull Cans

Greetings to all… It’s David Davis with my weekly blog: Death of Wrestling. For all of those who read this regularly, you will know that this is not a blog about bashing wrestling; it’s a blog of a frustrated fan, who loves the business and wishes that each week it could be a little better.

This week I want to talk about something that I don’t think will lead to the DOW. In fact, it’s quite the opposite… I want to talk about The Shield and what the Elimination Chamber means for the continuation of professional wrestling for generations to come…

But before all that I need to take you back to my blog last week on the Aces and Eights… Now that you’ve re-read it (what do you mean you can’t be bothered), you’ll know that I’m quite down on that invasion story line right now. The fact that they are essentially mid card jobbers that have actually added mid card jobbers to reinforce this fact beggars belief.

The WWE has been ripping off TNA for years now: Flawless AKA The Beautiful People anyone? The intro voice over for the start of Impact and Raw anyone?? And Invasion story for invasion story; The Shield AKA Aces and Eights anyone?!?

Apart from The Beautiful People, which was much better than Flawless, the WWE uses TNA to come up with the ideas and then shows TNA how to do them properly and The Shield at the Elimination Chamber was a prime example of this.

No one gave The Shield a chance at the Chamber against what had been described as Super Cena, Irish Cena and Cena minus 3 chromosomes (made me laugh out loud – someone should come up with a way to shorten that phrase). But luckily the WWE saw that in order for this storyline to continue to prosper; for us to really care about it… The Shield must win against top tier competition and prove that they belong…

The WWE essentially sacrificed it’s top three talents for the sake of the story, which is something that TNA refused to do and it’s the reason that the Aces and Eights story is virtually dead in the water. Shortsightedness when it comes to the importance of story will lead to the DOW, but on what some may call a rare occasion, the WWE staved off the DOW and treated us to a great match with an amazing finish!

That’s all folks… As always, post your comments, thoughts and opinions below! Or message me on twitter and let me know what you think the ‘Death of Wrestling’ is and I might just blog about it!!! Peace and I’m out…
