Death of Wrestling: Terrible Booking

Skull Cans

Greetings to all… It’s David Davis with my weekly blog: Death of Wrestling. For all of those who read this regularly, you will know that this is not a blog about bashing wrestling; it’s a blog of a frustrated fan, who loves the business and wishes that each week it could be a little better.

Hell in the Cell, in general and my opinion, is not the best PPV line up in recent history; there are a few matches that I want to see, but it’s not like I would be rushing out to spend my hard earned PPV bucks on it if it wasn’t being shown for ‘free’ on Sky Sports here in the UK. Of course one match that I do want to see, not so much for the actual match, but more for the finish, is CM Punk vs. Ryback…

Now we’ve been subjected to months, rather than weeks, of squash matches with Ryback; to the point where most people were screaming ‘alright, we get it, this man’s hard. Put him in a decent feud already’. The WWE obviously had plans for this guy, plans that couldn’t be rushed – well that was until the one and only John Cena got injured…

All of a sudden, CM Punk was without an opponent and the WWE had no one else to turn to except Ryback… If that were true, I’d understand, but unfortunately it’s not. There is literally a locker room full of people who would have loved to step up to the plate, so to speak, for a shot at the ‘Best in the World’.

But the WWE decided that Ryback was the man for the job, which is fine except for the fact that this is terrible booking… The WWE don’t want Ryback to be champion as they are already planning toward a CM Punk, Rock and Cena Wrestlemania, but they also don’t want Ryback to lose his streak and thus undo all the hard work that they have done to get us to chant Ryback, rather than Goldberg!

There was a time when the WWE really used to think about their booking and have the foresight to put together storylines like the Corporate Ministry. But sadly these days are behind us and the WWE is living hand to mouth, booking week to week, without enough thought for the consequences of their actions, which bit by bit will sadly lead to the DoW…

Life of Wrestling: In what may seem like a complete contradiction (but if you think about it, it’s not), I’m going to give my nod this week to the main event of HIAC, CM Punk vs. Ryback. In a time of seriously declining ratings, the WWE has managed to create enough buzz around this main event that it may actually alleviate what might have been dire PPV buy rates… It’s just a shame that the WWE is currently in a position where they have to cut off their nose to spite their face (ruining Ryback’s months of build up) just to get people watching a PPV… It also means that the finish to this match is bound to leave a sour taste in our mouths, no matter how it goes down…

That’s all folks… As always, post your comments, thoughts and opinions below! Or message me on twitter and let me know what you think the ‘Death of Wrestling’ is and I might just blog about it!!! Peace and I’m out…

I feel like somehow someway Ryback Vs Punk is going to end up in a no contest. I picture Punk somehow getting out and making a run for it.
