Mike Shannon's Raw Review (July 19, 2010)

Mike Shannon's Raw Review (July 19, 2010)

-Yes, I missed last week due to a vacation so you'll have to excuse me if I wanted to oogle my hot wife in a bikini for a few days.

-Coming off a really good Money in the Bank PPV, let's see how WWE follows things up and what their "special" surprise is...

#1 Contender's Match
Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge
Winner gets a shot at the WWE Title at Summerslam. The crowd is solidly behind Orton but that doesn't stop him from getting his ass kicked by the heels. This continues until Orton gets a double DDT and drops a few knees on Edge. Hard whip to the corner sets up an RKO attempt but Edge shoves him into the Codebreaker for two, broken by Edge. The heels brawl to the outside and Jericho hits the announce table BUT WE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK!!

We return with Orton taking out both heels and hitting a hangman's DDT on Jericho for two, broken by Edge. Edge runs Orton into the ring barrier and gets two back inside while Jericho takes a breather. Speaking of Y2J, the yanks Edge to the outside and runs him into the table before grabbing a chinlock on Orton. I'm such a sucker for Jericho's "ask him!"

Orton makes a comeback and hits a powerslam for two then he catches Edge running back in with a backbreaker for another near fall. The Edge distraction is enough for Jericho to recover and lock the Walls on Randy. Edge make the save with his DDT for two and tries a spear but it gets reversed into the Walls. Edge counters with a rollup and dumps Jericho to the floor but Orton looks to catch him with an RKO. Edge counters with the Edge-o-matic for two and looks to finish with a spear but Jericho cuts him off. Everyone exchanges rollups until all three clothesline each other in a spot I have never seen before. Jericho dumps Edge but misses the Lionsault on Orton and Randy delivers an RKO to both Jericho and Edge to claim victory.
Winner: Randy Orton

-Well that's one decisive victory right there. Kudos to the guys for a really good opening TV match and especially to Jericho for holding it all together ***.

-After a break, Edge refuses to leave the ring and calls out Jericho to end their 11 year rivalry...TONIGHT. Jericho claims that he could have Nexus come out here right now and take care of Edge.

Right on cue, Nexus hits the ring and attacks Edge while Jericho directs traffic and gloats. Jericho locks on the Walls of Jericho to add some more suffering but realizes he is surrounded far too late and gets destroyed as well.

-Backstage, Wade Barrett punks out Josh Matthews and Sheamus wants a meeting, fellah.

-John Cena joins Cole and King on the TitanTron and also asks for a meeting with Nexus tonight because he's failed so miserably against them. Hmmmmmm, I smell a setup...

Eve vs. Maryse
Eve loses hotness points for wearing the same outfit from last night. Teddy Jr. joins us for commentary as Maryse takes control with a running knee but misses a blind charge and Eve gets the pin?!? Maryse's foot was on the ropes but that doesn't really matter at this point.
Winner: Eve

-DUD of course. John Morrison attacks DiBiase while Ted is complaining about the finish in a pretty obvious heel action. That kind of stuff really bothers me.

-Sheamus hits the ring to gloat about his win and promise that we've seen the last of Cena in the title picture. I'm gonna hold you to that, fellah. He announces he's made a truce with Nexus and that's very bad for Randy Orton.

YOUR Money in the Bank winner, The Miz, joins us and reminds everyone of all the scenarios that can make him world champion. Miz = over. The Mystery GM checks in and suggests the Miz sits at ringside because Sheamus has to face Evan Bourne right now.

Sheamus vs. Evan Bourne
Bourne frustrates Sheamus with kicks, sending him to the outside where he throws a hissy fit and the TAPE MACHINES ARE RUNNING!!

Oh what a difference a few years makes

We return with Sheamus in trouble and Miz stroking the briefcase like a Bond villain strokes his cat. Sheamus floors Bourne with a clothesline for two then works him over in the corner by wrapping Evan around the ring post and pulling. Bourne fights out of a resthold but quickly gets slammed down for two and we hit another chinlock.

Sheamus smacks Bourne around but that pisses Evan off and he kicks away before getting a rollup for two. Spin kick sets up an Air Bourne attempt but Sheamus bails to the outside so Bourne dives on top of him for the double KO outside. Sheamus gets a cheapshot coming into the ring and the pump kick makes things academic.
Winner: Sheamus

-Decent but too many chinlocks for my liking **. Miz attacks with the briefcase and hits the Skull Crushing Finale onto the case. Miz quickly cashes it in, giving us...

WWE Title Match
Sheamus vs. The Miz
Sheamus is out cold so the referee won't start the match. R-Truth attacks out of nowhere in another heel action for a "face" so Miz grabs his case and heads for the hills.
No Match

-If you don't think they are dragging this Miz thing out, you're insane. This is the Miz's big shot at the main event level and McMahon doesn't want to screw it up.

-Backstage, Miz is PISSED at R-Truth...MIZ SMASH!!!

-Summerslam Rewind: Steve Austin vs. Undertaker at the 1998 edition. I believe this was match 4274 in their series of 208948.

Stallion

-Backstage, Sheamus meets Randy Orton and they have a friendly game of chess...just kidding, Orton promises to kick his ass.

Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. William Regal & Zack Ryder
Santino starts with his goofy offense and trips over himself so he tags in Kozlov. Back in comes Santino against Regal and he, of course, fails miserably and gets slugged down for two. Ryder checks in but misses a missile dropkick and he gets the hot tag to Vladimir to absolutely no response. Regal runs some interference but Vlad still hits the spinebuster and now Santino believes it's safe to tag in and he hits a diving headbutt for the win.
Winners: Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov

-Look, Santino is entertaining but these matches are really bad *.

Wade Barrett vs. Mark Henry
Nexus is banned from ringside for this match...something that they should ignore if they are real heel group. Barrett plays Larry Zybysko and stalls to start but finally comes back in the ring and gets his ass kicked. Clothesline gets two so Barrett switches strategies and goes to the knees but still gets slammed down for two. Henry goes up top(!?!) but Nexus walks out on the entrance ramp to distract Kool Aid and Barrett (just barely) hits the Wasteland to get the win.
Winner: Wade Barrett

-I tell you what, Barrett would probably have seriously hurt Henry if he held that fireman's carry for another half second, he just barely got him over. Anyways, pretty boring stuff *1/2.

Main Event Interview
Michael Tarver calls out Cena and wants him to show remorse for attacking the members of Nexus. Cena joins us in the ring and asks for a truce, which Barrett quickly rejects because Wade wants Cena to join the Nexus...or else. Cena retreats to the entrance ramp but announces he now has some backup in the form of...Edge, John Morrison, R-Truth, The Great Khali, Chris Jericho, and...Bret "The Hitman" Hart. They send the heels running as the crowd roars their approval.

Final Word
I REALLY thought it was going to be a HHH return, which would have made the crowd go batshit...plus he's not a stroke victim. But anyways, still a hot ending to a fairly average show. Sure there was a good opener, but not a whole lot after that. If you watched the first and last 20 minutes, you got a good show.

Go Pens.
