Eric Young Talks TNA’s Current Direction, Pressure As Champion, Celebrating His Title Win & More

TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young recently spoke with Between The Ropes to promote TNA Sacrifice this Sunday and talk about his word title win. Here are the highlights:

On how he celebrated his TNA Title win:
“To be honest, I had a couple beers at Friday’s. I actually treated myself and got Tostito nachos because I wanted to live on the wild side and then I went to sleep.”

On winning the TNA Title:
“It’s cool to share that with a bunch of my buddies backstage. Being there for so long and working with so many people. A lot of people don’t get to see coming through the curtain and having everybody there standing and clapping, that huge having the admiration of your peers. The crowd doesn’t get to see that. It’s really special.”

Feeling pressure as champion:
“This might get me in trouble but I don’t look at it at all. I didn’t look at it for my TV show,I don’t look at it for wrestling. I’ve got no say, the only thing I have power over is my output and my commitment to what i’m doing and that’s a 100% every time hurt, sick or tired. That will never change”

TNA Returning to Orlando:
“It’s old stomping grounds. It makes it’s easy, a great base with new people coming in and out of there all the time. If you live in the area and even kind of like pro wrestling, you should be coming to us”

The current direction of TNA:
“I feel its strong as its been in a long time. There is real direction and and real choice and vision of where they are trying to go. From day one, since 2003, there have been people saying ‘oh this is it they are going to lose their tv deal’ and whatnot. Listen, we are seen in over 120 countries, we do great numbers in tons of countries. We do good numbers in the US for Spike TV. We aren’t going anywhere. We have been here for over 10 years. We are still a young company. There are going to be growing pains in any company.”
