Former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion and Tag Team Champion, Joey
Ryan, who is also a former NWA World Tag Team Champion and appeared for
WWE several times as well as working for the short-lived MTV promotion
Wrestling Society X recently
took some time out of
his scheduled to speak with www.PWMania.com.
He spoke on several topics from how he started his career in wrestling,
PWG, working in WWE, and much more. Below is the complete interview:
Andy
Steven: Firstly I would like to thank you for taking time out of your
schedule to take part in this interview for www. PWMania. com. How did you
break into the wrestling business?
Joey Ryan: I started wrestling in 2000 with Jesse Hernandez's
Empire Wrestling Federation and went on to Rick Bassman's Ultimate Pro
Wrestling in 2001 and grew from there. Lately I have been traveling the
world applying my craft and becoming a world famous superstar in the
process.
Andy Steven: Tell us a little about your training and who you have
trained with?
Joey Ryan: At Jesse Hernandez's I trained a lot with Bobby Bradley,
then at UPW I trained with Brian Kendrick and Tom Howard and I later went
on to the Inoki USA Dojo to train with Bryan Danielson.
Andy Steven: You are one of the six the six owners of SoCal
promotion Pro
Wrestling
Guerrilla. How did you become involved with the company and what is the
atmosphere like at PWG events?
Joey Ryan: It was a merging of
ideas between six people and really, what better six people? Experience
helped a lot in its successes. PWG has a laid back and less political
atmosphere than a lot of promotions. I think the wrestlers have fun there
and the audience can tell and it helps them enjoy the product as well.
Andy Steven: You were involved
in several matches for MTV promotion Wrestling Society X, did you enjoy
working with them and what was been your best moment there?
Joey Ryan: WSX was radical!
The best thing about it was that it was filmed on the same area as the
television show Monk. I love that show! (Haha)
Andy Steven: You are a former NWA Tag-Team Champion with Karl
Anderson, how different is it working several matches with different
tag-team partners, do you have a preferred partner you click with most?
Joey
Ryan: I have great chemistry with Karl Anderson and Scott Lost. Disco
Machine and I have a lot of fun together too. I guess it just depends on
the atmosphere.
Andy Steven: You have appeared
several times in WWE competing against Rosey, Sylvain Grenier, The Gymini,
Mark Henry, John Morrison, Super Crazy and two times against The Big Show,
who did you most enjoy working with?
Joey Ryan: My personal favorite match was with Sylvan, but all
those guys are super cool. None of them tried to big league me.
Andy Steven: What was the atmosphere like in WWE while you made
your appearances?
Joey Ryan: Like a business, but a fun business. I mean, I'm sure
everybody there is more happy doing that then they would be bagging
groceries for a living. Not that bagging groceries is a bad thing if that
is your calling.
