Interview With: Former
WWE Referee Wes Adams
Interview By: Andy Steven of
www.PWMania.com
Date: April 3, 2009
Former WWE Referee, Wes Adams, recently took some time out of
his scheduled to speak with www.PWMania.com.
He spoke on this Sunday's WWE WrestleMania XXV and also his predictions
for the event including what match he would want to officiate and main
event. Below is the complete interview:
Andy
Steven: Hello Wes Adams, thanks for taking some time out to speak with
PWMania.com. With WrestleMania 25 just a few days away, what are your
thoughts and expectations on the event?
Wes Adams: You’re welcome. Thanks for asking my opinion. Well with
it being the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania, expectations are pretty
high. I'm looking forward to it, although it makes me kind of sad to think
about this time last year being in Orlando with all the other referees and
developmental talent setting up and everything. Being at Wrestlemania is
like no other feeling. But even just watching it, it has a way of making
you feel like your there.
Andy Steven: What are your WrestleMania XXV match thoughts and
predictions?
WWE Championship Match
- Triple (c) vs. Randy Orton
Wes Adams: This is interesting to me because the first high profile
pay per view match these two had the roles were reversed, at Unforgiven
04. Orton was the loved champion and Triple H was the hated challenger.
This time around has a different dynamic to it, with WWE acknowledging the
marriage between Triple H and Stephanie, and Orton making life miserable
for them. I know there have been many theories about either Steph or Shane
turning on Hunter and joining the Legacy and such. I'm inclined to think
something along those lines might happen. I think Orton is going to win
the Championship with help from Legacy and maybe an unforeseen surprise.
World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match -
Edge (c) vs. John Cena vs. Big Show Wes Adams: As serious as
the Orton/Triple H match has been,
this match has been equally funny/comedy relief. I enjoy Edge and Vickie's
interaction, and always have from the beginning. I expect some innovative
stuff here. I think Big Show may have some suprises for us. Realistically,
Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit set the bar so high for Triple
Threat WrestleMania matches, that its going to be hard for any Triple
Threat match to really stand out as a memorable WrestleMania moment. Last
years between Cena, Triple H, and Orton was really good, but I doubt it
will go down as one of the all time great Mania matches. They will have to
pull out all the stops to make sure this match goes down as one of those
moments. I also expect Vickie to get creamed at some point. But I see Edge
retaining the championship.
Intercontinental Championship Match
- JBL (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
Wes Adams: First of all, I am ecstatic to see the Intercontinental
championship defended after such a long hiatus from Wrestlemania. I'm sure
many other people are as well. I'm as curious as the next guy as to what
JBL's History Making Moment could be. This match reminds me of some of the
classic big man vs, small man Wrestlemania matches, like Kevin Nash vs.
Shawn Michaels and Yokozuna vs. Bret Hart.I think this match is a sleeper
and Rey will rack up some frequent flyer miles from being thrown all over
the ring by JBL. But he will survive and win the Intercontinental
Championship.
Brother vs. Brother
Extreme Rules Match
- Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Wes Adams: I'm thinking Matt is going to take this one. This has been
a long time in the making and people have been looking forward to this
match for years. I don't think this is going to end at WrestleMania. I see
Matt taking it and the feud continuing.
Elimination-Style Match
Ric Flair will be in the corner of the Legends and Mickey Rourke will be
at ringside.
- Chris Jericho vs. Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat, and Jimmy
Snuka
Wes Adams: Now this I am dying to see. Chris Jericho has been superb
and I'm personally all for getting legends involved. I am so excited to
see Ricky Steamboat get back in the ring. He was a great mentor to me and
taught me so much about the art of making a match. I wish I was there to
see this live. Ricky is still in fantastic shape and this isn't a
prediction but what I personally want to happen: Jericho takes the win on
Piper, then Snuka, but the Dragon gets the upset. I hope that since Ricky
is in good enough shape to do this gauntlet match, then he may have one
more full length match somewhere in there too. Then he can continue into
another match down the road with Jericho. However, there is always the
Stone Cold appearance that has to happen somewhere during this event, so
I'm guessing it will be in this match.
WWE
& World Tag Team Championship Unification Match
- Carlito & Primo (c) vs. John Morrison & The Miz (c)
Wes Adams: Another one I look forward to seeing. I'm glad to see the
tag team championships being unified on the grand stage. These four guys
have worked so hard and they deserve to be there. I remember when the
Bella Twins first started in Florida Championship Wrestling, and its a
testament to their hard work that they are in a major program at this
historic event. I expect Miz and Morrison to win the match and unify the
championships. But hopefully their tag team matches will continue. These
four guys are special.
The Streak On The Line
- Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
Wes Adams: The build to this match has been tremendous. Its always
great when Shawn is pushing someone's buttons, trying to get under their
skin. He did it with Hogan and now with Undertaker. Showing up in a white
version of Undertaker's outfit was great television. And its Wrestlemania.
Shawn Michaels cannot be outshone at WrestleMania. And the Undertaker
can't be beat. The streak isn't going away. Undertaker wins in what I am
sure will be an all time classic.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
- Shelton Benjamin vs. MVP vs. Christian vs. Mark Henry vs. Kane vs. CM
Punk vs. Finlay vs. Kofi Kingston
Wes Adams: With the addition of Mark Henry, and the return of Kane,
this year's MITB has more power in it than previous years matches. Kofi
and Henry are the only two who have not competed in MITB matches before.
As much as I would like to see it, I don't believe Punk will make it back
to back. I could see Edge retaining, and Christian winning MITB and
challenging Edge but I don't think its going to happen. I am a huge fan of
Kofi and one of his biggest supporters. I think that he is going to steal
the show in this match with some unique offense that we have not seen out
of him before. After the match everyone will be talking about Kofi, but I
think its MVP's time to shine. MVP will be Mr. Money In The Bank this
year.
25-Diva Battle Royal
Wes Adams: This is a tough one. I'm interested to see if a blast from
the past (Trish, Mae Young, Sunny) is going to take this one, or a current
Diva (Beth, Mickie, Natalya). With the way things have been going, I think
somehow we are going to wind up seeing Mr. Miss Wrestlemania, Santino
Marella!
Andy
Steven: If you were still contracted to WWE, what would be your
preferred match to officiate at Sunday’s WrestleMania XXV and why?
Wes Adams: If I was still contracted to WWE I would have liked it
if they switched me back to wrestler and put me in Money In The Bank. But
if I had to officiate, it would be Shawn vs. Undertaker. I never got to
officiate a Shawn Michaels match.
Andy Steven: What match would you pick to main event WrestleMania
XXV and do you think WWE will have it as the main event?
Wes Adams: My pick: Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. I believe that
they will close either with this or with Orton vs. Triple H. I am a big
supporter of having the championship matches close the show. Last year the
World Heavyweight Championship was the final match and this year it makes
sense that the WWE Championship closes this year. But they may suprise us
and put Mr. Wrestlemania vs. The Streak on as the grand finale. Either
way, we shouldn't be disappointed.
Andy Steven: Do you have any final thoughts or any messages for
your fans?
Wes Adams: Please don't send me hate mail! These are just
predictions. Haha seriously, thanks again for the support. And thanks to
PWMania and Andy for asking my opinion. Email any feedback to
wesadams1@hotmail.com.
