Memories of WWF

If you were growing up in the 90s, then most of you should have watched WWE in those days. The WWE was then known as WWF or the World Wrestling Federation. Later on, for legal reasons, its name was changed from WWF to WWE with the word Federation replaced to Entertainment and rightly so! Wrestling is an interesting art in itself and World Wrestling Federation or Entertainment made it even more interesting and fascinating to watch.

When WWE was WWF..!

The growing up days have got their own importance and things which we do while growing up do become special in our memories and World Wrestling Entertainment was surely one of them. I was a die heart fan of WWE and I hardly missed any of its shows. At that time, it was aired on Star Sports at my place. I anxiously waited for each and every episode of WWE, they were like welcome bonus for me!. What impressed me was the big guys with big muscles and lots of attitude. Each and every star was quite well defined and entertaining in itself.

At that time, my favorite Wrestler was Marty Zanetti. I liked his slim, handsome looks with fast, moves and Agile body. I remember the Intercontinental match between him and Shawn Michaels and enjoyed it very much. It’s good to see Shawn Michaels is still active on WWE (or is he!?) these days. Another antique WWE Great the Undertaker, I guess, is still active. I am not in touch with it anymore, but I do still identify with lots of things that WWE had.

Apart from the entertainment stuff, WWE also had influenced my life in other ways. I picked up English and its accent due to it. English is a second language in our country and I remember I rehearsed some of the popular WWE taglines that helped me getting an accent that distinguished me from my classmates!

I used to believe that all the fights are for real and each and every punch really hurt. Later on, I realized that it was all well planned but I still enjoyed each and every moment of it. It was more like a live performance in a theater where every character is so defined and well structured and it was entertainment all the way and I enjoyed every match and all the drama and interludes between them as well!

My bro too was a fan of WWE and we used to have some pillow fights which mostly went serious and it hurt me much more than it did to him! All these memories are really precious and special for me. There were some chaps in my class that too were a big fan of WWE. At that time, it was the era of the VCR and video cassettes and we used to rush up to the video parlor to get videos of Royal Rumble, Wrestle Mania and all other related stuff. I really enjoyed watching it and it was one of the best Time Pass that we had in those days.

Looking backā€¦

Now when I look back, I wonder why it was so interesting and infatuating for me to watch those matches. I guess, it is the fight factor and the entertainment that attracted me and my fellow pals the most. We all have that Fighting Spirit in us and often we want to kick off the person standing next to us, but somehow, we refrained our self from doing that because of social reasons. That instinct remains somewhere deep down us and it needs to be expressed in one way or the other. WWE gave us an opportunity to live that movement. Each and every fight has characters that were quite well defined and you have to pick up the good and the bad ones. The scripting was quite good and most characters were quite well versed had a great personality and dialogues that reflected their personality. Their body language was suitable to their personality as well. All in all, it was a great package that entertainers us. It was probably the best way to bring out the animal in us without harming anyone! That being said, we did had some serious fights when we impersonated WWE wrestlers and had a fight with the fellow and that really hurt at times. But still, at the end of the day, it was all fun and WWE was and still is one of the best memories that I have in my mind from my growing up days.

Some of the WWE stars that I remember from those days were Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Crush, Bam Bam Bigelow, Bret The Hitman Hart, his brother Owen Hart, The Narcissist Lex luger, The Big Show etc. There should be hundreds of them that have missed out due to my short memory. At times, I do occasionally get updates about WWE superstars of that time and I also came to hear about the passing away of some of the oldies like Owen Hart and Bam Bam Bigelow. I was disappointed to hear that news which confirms that even after all these years, I am still connected to them though I hardly watch it anymore. I guess this is the magic of WWE and the reason it is still ruling the hearts of the contemporary youth, because it has a universal appeal and its loyal fan following.

To sum up
