Michael’s Musings – Royal Rumble Predictions

This Sunday the Road to Wrestlemania begins with the first of the Big 4 Pay Per Views, The Royal Rumble. These are my personal opinions for what I believe is going to happen this Sunday and I thank you for taking the time out of your day to read them.

WWE United States Championship Match
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs The Miz

It was several months ago that Antonio Cesaro claimed his first United States Championship by defeated Santino Marella on the YouTube preview. Now Antonio returns to Youtube to face The Miz for his championship. This should be a decent match to kick off the show but now that The Miz has been turned into another version of “Lil Natch” his chances of winning the gold are even worse than they were before. The Lil Natch act did not work for AJ Styles in TNA so why would the WWE think it would for The Miz? WWE has been protecting Cesaro like he is the Golden Goose in a fairytale and I don’t see that stopping this Sunday. Antonio Cesaro will get the win on Sunday and continue is reign as The Anti American United States Champion.

WINNER: Antonio Cesaro

WWE Tag Team Championship
Team Hell No (c) vs Team Rhodes Scholars

Team Hell No is without a doubt the hottest act in WWE today but all good things must come to an end. WWE has gotten miles out of this gimmick but both Daniel Bryan and Kane need to move onto bigger and better things. I would hope that WWE will do something to keep Kane and Daniel Bryan together while keeping them apart. Having Daniel Bryan turn on Kane this Sunday would be a good start. Any way you shape it, Team Rhodes Scholars are going to walk out of Phoenix with the gold around their waists.

WINNER: Team Rhodes Scholars

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Last Man Standing Match
Alberto del Rio (c) vs The Big Show

If you would have told me last month that Alberto del Rio would be playing a World Champion face, I would have called you a damn liar but here we are. Del Rio shocked the world by defeated The Big Show to win the World Title after being Sheamus’ bitch for 6 months and never being able to capture the gold. The problem with Del Rio now is that he is just the champion of the Latino community after spending his entire career as the Mexican Aristocrat. Both Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara are sidelines but they were not limited by their nationality. WWE needs to stop seeing Del Rio has the Mexican World Champion but simply as the World Champion or they may alienate the casual wrestling fan. I expect Del Rio to use some sort of trick like he did on Smackdown two weeks ago to beat The Big Show can continue his reign.

WINNER: Alberto del Rio

WWE Championship Match
CM Punk (c) vs The Rock

If you wanna know why The Rock comes back and gets an automatic title shot, all you have to do is look at the ratings. The Rock has brought back about 500,000 fans to RAW and Smackdown since his return. This match will without a doubt be the main event of the show and how fitting is it that when CM Punk finally main events the show again, he will undoubtedly lose the title. WWE only has The Rock for the next 2 to 3 months and they need him as the WWE Champion for as long as they can get him which is why The Rock will win on Sunday. This Sunday, The People’s Champion becomes the WWE Champion once again. That is headline news all around the World since The Rock is now a bigger movie star than he has ever been.

WINNER: The Rock

The Royal Rumble Match
This may be the hardest Rumble to predict in recent memory. All we know right now is that Dolph Ziggler is scheduled to start the match and John Cena will probably be right behind him, meaning that these two men who have been feuding over the last few weeks will probably go post to post. The last time that happened was when Rey Mysterio and HHH started the Rumble. Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison are expected to return in the match but they will probably do a quick little stunt and be quickly eliminated. Ryback is in the Rumble so he will probably throw at least 5 men out of the match. I have always believed that the Rumble win should be about elevating talent and the truth is that the big favorites to win, do not need to win. John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus, and Ryback do not need the win like other Superstars do. I am expecting The Shield to get involved and cost Ryback, Sheamus, and Orton their victories. This should set up a match at The Elimination Chamber with those six men. That leaves John Cena as the heavy favorite since he is scheduled to face The Rock at Wrestlemania but I don’t see him winning. I am going to go out of left field and pick Daniel Bryan. Rumor has it that Vince McMahon finally sees what we have all seen in him for the last two years and Rumble win will put him right in the main event where he belongs. If he does turn on Kane as I suspect, Daniel and Kane can have a short feud with each other before Daniel turns his attention to Alberto del Rio and the World Title.

WINNER: Daniel Bryan
