A HUGE BATTLE FOR THE GOLD!!!
Inside a sold out Philips Centre in Atlanta it was general manager Stephanie McMahon coming out and she said that she enjoyed the Royal Rumble last Wednesday, she said it had everything that you wanted to see and the crowning of a new Heavyweight champion, she than called out the new champion as Chris Sabin came out, Stephanie congratulated Chris with his win and his first ever World Heavyweight Championship, Chris thanked her and he said he worked hard to get this title around his waist, he said that last December when he fought for the first time for the title he liked that feeling and at the Rumble he took advantage of the situation and made himself a champion, Stephanie said that she liked it very much but since she made a stipulation in the Rumble match and that was whoever eliminated HHH would receive a title shot here tonight and she asked Chris if he knew who it was, he said he was afraid that he knew who it was seeing how it ended after the Rumble Match, Stephanie said that former champion The Undertaker will indeed face him here tonight in the main event, Chris said that he as champion should not face such a opponent only 5 days after his massive win and asked Stephanie to book the match for next week, Stephanie said that that wasn’t a option because after tonight we would know who is going to WrestleMania as Heavyweight champion.
In the first match of the evening it was Rob van Dam challenging TV champion Chris Daniels to a match after he was eliminated by him in the Rumble, RVD took control in the early going and worked on the legs of Daniels, RVD eventually was able to nail a Vandamminator in the corner but couldn’t get the win, RVD also nailed the Rolling Thunder but Daniels kicked out and eventually fought back in the match with a double arm DDT, Daniels nailed Last Rites on RVD but RVD kicked out, Sabu tried to interfere but the ref send him back to the back but RVD rolled Daniels up but kicked out, RVD nailed a dropkick on Daniels and went to the top but missed his 5 Star Frog Splash as Daniels rolled out of the way as Daniels took control and nailed Angel Wings on RVD and covered for the win, after the match it was Rhino coming out and nailed Daniels with a Gore as RVD went to the top and delivered a 5 Star Frog Splash on Daniels as Benoit ran out to make the save.
X Division champion Bryan Danielson came down to ringside with Paul London as Bryan said that at the Rumble it seems clear that big men like Kevin Nash has a problem with guys like himself and Paul, he said that at Santa’s Invasion they showed that they can beat them but at the Rumble he didn’t had a change as Nash wanted to kill him but he is still standing here, he said that X Division are some tough son of bitches and if the New World Order thinks they can break them, let’s bring it as the N.W.O came out as Nash took a mic and said that Danielson had a big mouth but they would teach them, he said that since they wanted to prove them he had a deal for them, next week they can search for a partner and than we would see a 6 man tag team match against Nash, Hall & Batista if they think they can bring it, Bryan looked at Paul and they smiled and said it was on.
In the next match it was Gregory Helms taking on Amazing Red in a X Division match as they brought all the high fly manoeuvres in the match as Helms had control in the early going scoring several falls but Red fought back with a bulldog and looked for the Infra Red but Helms countered that in a roll up but Red kicked out, Helms looked for the Shining Wizard but this time Red saw it coming and grabbed Helms and nailed a back body suplex on Helms but Helms kicked out, Red had the match under control but Aries came down to ringside and distracted Red as Helms rolled him up but Red kicked out, Helms than send Red into the ropes as Aries nailed him in the back as Helms than nailed the Shining Wizard for the win as he and Aries celebrated another win as Helms took a mic and he said that he had won so many matches lately that he deserves a shot at the X Division championship and it would come sooner than everybody thinks.
HHH came out and he said that at the Royal Rumble he made the biggest impact of all the superstars, he first beat the 500 pound Big Show and than outlasted more than a hour in the Rumble before he was eliminated by the Undertaker, he said that Stephanie had her way again but it needs to stop, he said he would do whatever he wanted to do and that tonight he would be at ringside to see who would be Heavyweight champion and than he would challenge him, Stephanie came on the screens as she said that first HHH won’t be at ringside but in the lockerroom and second he won’t challenge the World Heavyweight champion to a match because the rules where simple, he had to win at the Rumble but he didn’t and now he wouldn’t a shot at the gold, HHH said that if she wanted to keep his life miserable why doesn’t she do something about it, HHH again challenged her to a match at Mania and he said it didn’t care what kind of match it would be, he said that it has to end and he wants to end it at Mania, Stephanie said she would think about it but tonight if HHH comes to ringside in the title match he would lose his job and won’t go to Mania and facing her in any kind of match, HHH agreed and said he already looked forward to Mania because Stephanie would pay for what she did to him.
The Big Show was also in action as he took on Mike Awesome of the ECW Alliance, Show dominated the match in the early going and overpowered Awesome with some big moves, Show nailed a huge pump handle slam on Awesome but Awesome kicked out, Show send Awesome in the ropes and connected with a big boot and than dropped a massive leg drop and covered but Awesome kicked out, Show send Awesome in the ropes and nailed a back body drop, Show than signalled for the end and grabbed Awesome by the throat and nailed the Chokeslam on him and covered for the win as after the match Goldberg ran to the ring and speared Show down as Goldberg looked to the fans and than signalled for it as he grabbed Show and nailed a huge Jackhammer on Show as Goldberg than stood before Show and told him he would be next.
Backstage Flair is motivating Sabin for tonight’s main event as Flair said that his run has come now and he proved at the Rumble that he can be the man, this was just the beginning of his main event career and tonight he would prove it that he is the man who can beat the Undertaker, Sabin said that he knew how Taker works and he would do anything to walk out with the title, Flair said he would indeed and said he had all the faith that Sabin would do that, Takers days are over it’s time for the future and that’s you.
Chris Jericho took on Eric Young of Team Canada as Jericho showed his angry after last weeks Royal Rumble and took out his frustrations on Young, Jericho nailed 2 suplexes on Young and went to the top and delivered a flying elbow, Jericho than picked up Young for a powerslam and covered but Young kicked out, Jericho nailed a atomic drop and a Russian leg sweep and covered again but he pulled up Young as Devine jumped on the apron and argued with the ref but Jericho dropkicked him off the apron and than he nailed a Bulldog on Young and followed that one with a Lionsault as Jericho got up and looked at the fans who cheered him as he locked Young in the Walls of Jericho as Young couldn’t do anything else than to tap out as Devine entered the ring but Jericho saw him coming and picked him up with a spinebuster as Roode than ran to ringside but Jericho saw him and kicked him into the midsection and nailed him with a heel kick and followed that with a Lionsault as he took out all 3 members of Team Canada, Jericho than took a mic and he called out Shawn Michaels, HBK appeared on the big screens and laughed as he said that he wasn’t in Atlanta but still in San Antonio, Jericho said that Michaels would pay and he challenged him to a match at WrestleMania, HBK said that he has already beaten Chris and he wouldn’t accept a re-match, Jericho said that if HBK didn’t do it willingly he would provoke him in facing him again, HBK said he didn’t mind because Chris had his change but blew it.
It was than time for the main event as World Heavyweight champion Chris Sabin has to defend his title for the first time against former champion the Undertaker as Taker started aggressive and slammed Sabin hard into the corner and nailed Sabin with hard right hands, Taker send Sabin in the ropes and connected with a back body drop and than dropped a leg drop and covered but Sabin kicked out, Taker send Sabin in the ropes but missed a closeline as Sabin dropkicked Taker down and jumped on top of him and nailed him with lefts and rights, Sabin nailed a side walk slam and covered but Taker kicked out, Sabin than closelined Taker over the ropes to the outside but Taker landed on his feet as Sabin than elevated himself over the ropes but Taker caught him in mid air and than slammed him back first into the ring post and than he did it another time as Taker than rolled Sabin back into the ring but grabbed him by the head and got on the apron and dropped another massive leg drop as Sabin fell to the outside as Taker rolled him back in and followed and made a cover but Sabin kicked out, Taker than held Sabin into a submission but Sabin refused to tap as Taker nailed a backbreaker and covered but Sabin again kicked out, Taker than send Sabin into the ropes and connected with a big boot, Taker than went for old school but Sabin countered that and brought Taker to the mat and than he closelined him down, Sabin than nailed a fall away slam and covered but Taker kicked out and sat back up as Sabin than nailed Taker with a double dropkick and covered but Taker kicked out, Sabin send Taker into the corner and followed but Taker nailed him with a elbow and than picked him up and dropped him head first onto the top turnbuckle and than nailed sneak eyes on Sabin and covered but Sabin kicked out, Taker than send Sabin into the ropes and caught him with a side walk slam, Taker than went again for old school and this time he connected with it as Taker got up and grabbed Sabin by the throat and chokeslammed Sabin right to hell and covered but somehow Sabin could get a leg onto the ropes as Flair ran to ringside and distracted Taker as Sabin rolled up Taker but Taker kicked out, Sabin send Taker into the ropes as Flair grabbed the legs of Taker as Taker turned around Sabin knocked him down with a brass knuckle and covered but Taker kicked out in time as Sabin couldn’t believe it as Flair jumped the apron and argued with the ref as Sabin picked up Taker and looked for the Cradle Shock but Taker countered that and pushed Sabin right into Flair and than picked him up and there it comes Tombstone Piledriver that shook the ring as Taker covered and got the 3 and made himself New World Heavyweight champion as he raised the title in the air as Flair on the outside couldn’t believe it what happened as Sabin rolled out of the ring as Flair picked him up as Taker went on one knee and held the title in the air as it was than ECW champion Abyss who looked at the Undertaker as both men stared at each other as the show went off the air.
