Report: Ring of Honor Negotiating With New Japan Pro Wrestling To Bring In Top Star

– ROH officials are in talks with New Japan Pro Wrestling – a Japanese affiliate of theirs – to bring in top Japanese star and current IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Hiroshi Tanahashi. There are also discussions being held to bring in a number of top NJPW stars throughout 2014 for major shows.

Tanahashi is to wrestling in Japan as John Cena is in the United States, often noted as the face of not just New Japan Pro Wrestling but puroresu (Japanese style of wrestling) as a whole.

It is interesting to note that in recent newswires ROH have been hyping their annual Border Wars event to feature something “historic”, which could very well be in-relation to the negotiations with New Japan officials. As well as this, in the newswire before Final Battle, ROH noted the company was in contact with other “pro-wrestling offices”, setting up a special event for 2014.
