Ring Of Honor TV Results & Analysis – March 28, 2015

This week on Ring of Honor, we have the return of the one, the only… Samoa Joe! How will Joe fare in his first bout on Sinclair’s ROH TV? Let’s get to the action!

The Matches:

1. Moose w/ Veda Scott & Stokely Hathaway vs. Caprice Coleman

2. The Decade (BJ Whitmer & Adam Page) vs. Leon St. Giovanni & Shaheem Ali

3. The House of Truth (J. Diesel & Donovan Dijak) w/ Truth Martini vs. Brutal Burgers (“Brutal” Bob Evans & Cheeseburger)

4. Main Event: Samoa Joe vs. Kyle O’Reilly w/ Bobby Fish

The Results:

1. Winner: Moose

2. Winners: The Decade

3. Winners: The House of Truth

4. Winner: Samoa Joe

The Analysis:

1. This match was a good feature for Moose’s unfathomable level of aerial athleticism, which compensates for his lack of polished wrestling technique. Make no mistake, ROH and its audience are seeing something in Moose that is still to raw at this point to be displayed as it is, but considering ROH’s history of sculpting its “clay” into excellent pieces of art, I would say that the aforementioned talent’s position on the cards are warranted, to some degree. My incessant review of Moose aside, the match itself was based around the lack of intellectual offense on Moose’s part, which is a great way of adding depth to the large athlete while they have a chance. Caprice continues to embody the most enviable sort of logic in his work and it further saddens me to realize that for all his talent, he still hasn’t been able to become a draw. Perhaps Caprice will be able to achieve the same miracle that Bully Ray accomplished in the next few years and reinvent himself while he can still fully benefit from such labors. Altogether, this was a solid bout to start the night.

2. This bout was a squash match, but was one that gave the jobbers a chance to make their mark. There isn’t too much to elaborate on here, except for how professional and polished BJ Whitmer looked here. Whitmer is enjoying a fabulous run since he has returned, with a series of wonderful bouts and while this isn’t one of them, this is indicative of his ability to help others perform well, no matter the circumstances.

3. The work done here was intent on providing a fun atmosphere, which is certainly a departure from ROH’s philosophy about professional wrestling. Nothing about this bout felt overtly dramatic, which helped the short length of the match to feel appropriate. Cheeseburger has truly developed into a great comedy act, one that can illicit a marvelous reaction from the crowd at any time. Overall, this was just a good bit of fun.

4. This was most certainly a main event worth watching. Joe worked as hard as ever in this match and was thoroughly magnificent in his efforts. It is remarkable how TNA could have Joe for so long and not find something for him after the four mark of his tenure. With each move and every hold, Joe showed why he is one of professional wrestling’s very best. Kyle O’Reilly had one of his best showings tonight, with his pedigree as a wrestler truly appearing in a way that he doesn’t usually get to reveal when he wrestles in ROH. You can’t go wrong with this match in any way.

News of the Night:

1. The KRD hacked into a Jay Briscoe vignette, in an effort to get the group more heat.

2. Evans turned on Cheeseburger after the match. The turn got Evans over as a heel instantly. Cheeseburger really is a fan favorite, in every sense of the word.

3.. Colby Corino joined “The Decade”, to Steve Corino’s chagrin.

4. Jimmy Jacobs chastised Whitmer for recruiting Corino’s son, which helps solidify the face turn for Jacobs as he prepares for a bout BJ Whitmer, before the former heads to the WWE booking staff.

5. Tommaso Ciampa may be leaving Ring of Honor, if the rumor is true.

Final Verdict:

This was a good card that was elevated to a higher level by a great main event.
