Ring Of Honor Wrestling Results; Alberto Él Patron Arrives – January 18, 2015

Jay Briscoe says that Nigel McGuinness has made the match and the ROH World Championship will be on the line tonight against a member of The Kingdom. He tells Taven and Bennett that he has the guts to put his title on the line, but do they have the guts to put his property that they stole on the line? We go to Nashville State Fairgrounds where Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino welcome us to the show. Kevin Kelly plugs that tonight Alberto Él Patron will make his ROH debut.

Cedric Alexander vs. Frankie Kazarian w/Christopher Daniels: Daniels joins Kevin and Steve at the commentary table for this match. Match starts off even with both men trading holds until Kazarian drops Cedric with a running dropkick. Kazarian takes the early advantage and drops Cedric in the corner with a clothesline before hitting an elevated dropkick followed by a kip-up as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the commercial break as Cedric is on the apron and Frankie is in the ring, both men jostling for position as they try to suplex the other, Cedric overpowers Kazarian and suplexs him from inside the ring to the outside onto the floor. Alexander gets in a couple of knife edge chops before rolling Kaz back into the ring. Kazarian comes back at Alexander and takes the advantage again with a headlock on the mat, bringing Alexander up and hitting a neckbreaker for a two. Kaz tries to maneuver Alexander but Cedric retaliates with a Michinoku Driver for a two. Kazarian gets up and charges at Alexander but Cedric send him over the top rope onto the apron, Kaz hits him with a forearm and follows it up with a springboard DDT for another two. Frankie has an idea and tries to position Cedric for something but Alexander fights back and hits three amigoes which gets an “Eddie!” chant. Kazarian fights back again and gets Alexander onto the top rope, both men jostling for position. Alexander knocks Frankie off the top rope but Kazarian comes back with a second rope springboard powerbomb but as Kaz comes to his feet Alexander is able to comeback with a spinning heel kick which knocks Frankie into the corner. Alexander charges again but this time Kaz is able to throw him over the top onto the apron, where Alexander hits another heel kick to the back of Kazarian’s head. Kaz stumbles into the center of the ring as Alexander tries for his signature springboard dropkick from the corner, but from mid-air Kazarian catches him with an Ace Crusher and follows it up with an unprettier for the three and the win. Christopher Daniels says it’s, “score one for the good guys” and says he doesn’t need luck for his match next week with Alberto Él Patron.

Winner: Frankie Kazarian

Matt Taven tells Jay Briscoe that he thought he was the smart one of the Briscoe family, but because he made it a title match, at the end of the night Matt Taven will be the new ROH World Champion. This confirms that Jay Briscoe will defend against Matt Taven tonight.

Top Prospect Tournament Round #1, Jake Dirden vs. Donovan Dijak: Dirden is 6’8, 279 lbs from St. Louis, MO and has wrestled in Pro Wrestling NOAH, where he has also trained at the dojo. Dijak is 6’7 270 lbs from Worcester, MA, trained by ROH star Hanson. They’re both the biggest guys to ever compete in the Top Prospect Tournament. Diden plays a lunatic ala Bruiser Brody. Both men shake hands but it turns into an immediate slugfest, Dirden going for his finishing maneuver the Aziatic Spike early, which is his thumb to the throat. Both men trade punches and big boots as The Decade, Jimmy Jacobs, BJ Whitmer and Adam Page appear on the aisle to watch. Dirden catches Dijak with a big boot and Dijak responds with a discuss forearm. Dijak knocks Dirden to the outside with a clothesline and follows it up with a dive over the top rope taking out Dirden which gets a loud pop from the crowd.

Dijak rolls Dirden back into the ring and attempts another discuss forearm but Dirden catches him by the throat and hits a Chokeslam. Dirden looks to go for the pin but instead raises his thumb, signalling for the Aziatic Spike. He positions Dijak for it but Dijak comes from behind and lifts Dirden up into the torture rack position, tossing him up and around and hitting him with a modified GTS which gets a big pop from the crowd as Dijak makes the cover and gets the three, moving onto the next round of the Top Prospect Tournament. The Decade are impressed with Dijak.

Winner: Donovan Dijak

An advertisement for CHIKARA airs for their show on January 25th in Philadelphia. ROH and CHIKARA have a respectful relationship with one another.

A vignette airs of a shadow talking as clips show in the background. The shadow says, “We have been watching you, we are coming and we are bringing change”.

When we return Kevin Kelly is in the ring and he welcomes Alberto Él Patron. Alberto gets a great reaction and a loud “El Patron” chant as he makes his way to the ring. He looks very pumped up and poses on two of the corners in the ring. He shakes Kevin Kelly’s hand but before he can speak Alberto rolls to the outside and jumps into the crowd. He rolls back into the ring and Kevin welcomes him to Ring of Honor as a loud “Ci! Ci! Ci!” chant begins. Kevin asks him what are his plans in ROH. Alberto says that finally he is in ROH. He says that four months ago somebody told him that he wouldn’t be able to wrestle in the US for one whole year, but now he is standing in Nashville, Tennessee and he is working for the wrestling company that the best wrestlers in the world work for, Ring of Honor. “Yes, I said it, wrestlers, because that’s what we are. I’m not a f#cking sports entertainer, I’M A WRESTLER!”

He says that to be the best wrestler in the world you have to defeat the best and that next week, against Christopher Daniels, he’s going to give you the best night of your life. He gets cut off again by a loud “Ci! Ci! Ci!” chant. Alberto continues by saying, that really, what he wants, what he must have is the best title wrestling has to offer, the ROH World Championship. He asks Jay Briscoe to come to the ring and give the fans what they want. Instead Jay Lethal’s music hits and Lethal, flanked by Truth Martini comes to the ring.

Truth Martini tells Alberto that until 20 seconds ago he never cared for anything he had done, until he mentioned the best and forgot to mention Jay Lethal. Lethal takes over and says, “you should do your homework, before you come to class”, he tells Alberto that around here he’s the number one guy, he holds the most important title in ROH and the world, the ROH World TV Championship. Lethal tells Alberto that hes disrespected him and that he should apologize before his first day in ROH, is his last. Alberto says he did disrespect him, but the way he sees it, the guy in ROH is the guy holding the ROH World Championship and that he and the fans think, that’s Jay Briscoe. Alberto tells Lethal that if he wants to go, they have a saying where he’s from, “lets dance, perra”. Alberto looks ready to go but Truth Martini pulls Lethal away and says he knows what Alberto is trying to do, he’s trying to go right to the top in ROH, but in ROH you have to climb to the top and that’s what he’ll have to do before he gets a chance to face Jay Lethal.

Lethal and Martini leave as the fans chant Alberto’s name.

We return from commercial break to a replay of last weeks main event where Hanson vs. Michael Elgin vs. Tommaso Ciampa ended in a no-contest so no #1 contender for the ROH World Championship was decided. We return to the arena where Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino are speaking about the matter before ROH matchmaker Nigel McGuinness interrupts and says that he has an announcement regarding the matter and asks ROH World Champion, Jay Briscoe to come out so he can tell him to his face.

Jay Briscoe comes out and says he saw last weeks main event and since Las Vegas is a gambling city and he is a gambling man, that instead of making one of them number one contender, why not make all three of them, and that at the 13th Anniversary pay-per-view, they have a high stakes four corner survival match for the ROH World Championship. Before Nigel can respond Jay tells him to think about it, but while hes thinking about it, he tells the sound guy to hit Matt Taven’s music, so he can, “whoop that mother f#cker’s ass!”

ROH World Championship: Jay Briscoe (c) vs. Matt Taven w/ Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis: Maria and Bennett try to distract Jay from either side of the ring as Matt Taven goes for the sneak attack but Jay catches him and starts the match by delivering hard punches to the face. Jay has the early advantage, throwing Taven to the outside of the ring and into the guard rail. Jay rolls Taven back into the ring and Maria distracts him. Briscoe starts closing in on Maria and Bennett but Taven dives over the top rope and takes him out. Bennett sneak attacks Jay as Taven distracts the referee. Taven comes to the outside of the ring and throws him into the guard rail, rolling back into the ring as Bennett hits a kick to Briscoe’s face again behind the referees back. Bennett rolls Briscoe back into the ring as Taven goes for the cover but only gets two. Taven whips Jay into the ropes but Maria trips Briscoe, allowing Taven to hit a springboard back kick off the ropes which again only gets two. Taven positions Briscoe for Climax, but Jay reverses it, Taven slips behind Jay and locks his hands around Jay’s waist but Jay comes around, Taven backs Jay into the corner and tries for a running clothesline but Jay catches him and hits an STO into the second turnbuckle.

Jay rolls into the middle of the ring and the two reach their feet, a loud “Man Up!” chant begins in favor of Jay Briscoe as the two start trading punches. Briscoe wins the battle with ease and starts teeing off on Taven with uppercuts and headbutts, he drops Taven with a neckbreaker but it only gets two. Jay tosses Taven into the corner and starts teeing off with punches but Taven slips underneath and hits a superkick to Jay’s leg taking him down. Taven props Jay onto the top rope and tries for a frankensteiner but Jay is able to toss him away, Taven hitting the mat face and chest first as Briscoe hits him with the Jay Driller and gets the three to retain the ROH World Championship.

Winner & STILL ROH World Champion: Jay Briscoe

Mike Bennett rolls into the ring with the “Title of Love”, Jay’s customized ROH World Championship that they stole and hits Jay in the head with it as the referee raises his hand. Bennett starts beating him down and calls Jay a “piece of sh#t” as Maria takes the microphone and tells Jay that the belt is hers now and that from where she stands, Jay doesn’t even have the balls to fight a girl. Mark Briscoe comes out with a steel chair and runs The Kingdom off. Mark grabs a microphone and says that this has gone on long enough, and that next week, Ring of Honor Wrestling starts with The Briscoes vs. The Kingdom and they’ll settle it once and for all. Mark says that, “The Kingdom will fall”, as The Kingdom stand on the ramp, Jay Briscoe’s music hits and the fans chant, “Man Up!”
