- Ring of Honor continue to confirm names for their crossover shows in May with New Japan Pro Wrestling, with IWGP Heavyweight Champion “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada and IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Hiroshi Tanahashi already confirmed, we can now also confirm “The King of Strong Style” Shinsuke Nakamura.
The following is the release by Ring of Honor on ROHWrestling.com:
The “King of Strong Style” is coming to ROH. The “strong style” of Japanese wrestling is a style that includes hard martial arts strikes and submission style holds. The mixed martial artist Nakamura, has used this style to become one of the most successful stars in New Japan history. He is a former three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion, and a former IWGP Tag Team Champion. He is also a former winner of the G1 Climax Tournament.
The former “Super Rookie” has come a long way in New Japan since his 2002 debut. Aside from winning championships and tournaments in New Japan, Nakamura has seen success wrestling all over the world in an attempt to improve his skills. He has challenged some of the toughest wrestlers in the world including a bout with Brock Lesnar for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in 2006.
With other “Strong style” wrestlers within the ROH ranks, “The King” of New Japan’s “strong style” will be able to put his ability to the test against some of the best athletes in North America, and in the world. He’s defeated some of the best ever in Japan, and in the world, but his Ring of Honor challenge is sure to be the toughest of his career.
ROH will confirm a new name every day at noon over the next week.
