The Rock is without a doubt one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever to step foot in the squared circle, and he was instrumental in helping to shape one of the most successful periods in WWE history,The Attitude Era. On the April 3rd edition of WWE RAW, Rock announced to the world that his goal was to once again become WWE Champion, and recently he announced that he is appearing on the 1000th episode of WWE RAW on July 23rd. Once again the topic of the WWE Championship was brought up.
It’s been 10 years since Rock held a WWE World Title, and many wrestling fans cringe at the thought of him once again becoming WWE Champion. But, it’s safe to say that an even larger number of wrestling fans would love to see “The Brahma Bull” hoist up professional wrestling’s most prestigious title for an eighth time.
Many wrestling fans are asking “Why Now?” Rock has a successful movie career and those fans are of the opinion that pro wrestling is just a hobby for Rock, but a better question would be “Why Not?” Professional wrestling is in Rock’s blood, three generations of wrestling flow through his veins, and he has a passion for the business that few wrestlers can compete with.
Of course the die-hard CM Punk fans would say that putting the WWE Title on Rock would just detract from Punk’s success over the past year. However, CM Punk is a wrestler that does not need a world title to be over, much like Roddy Piper, Curt Hennig, and so many others. Having The Rock as WWE Champion, even in the short term would not hurt the WWE, in fact, quite the opposite; it would bring back the fans that switched off WWE TV when it shifted from the near R-Rated programming of years ago, to the family friendly programming of today.
At the end of the day wrestling fans would rather see The Rock over John Cena to carry the WWE Championship, even if it was for the sort term. In its long and storied history, the WWE has made some dubious choices when it came to the WWE Championship and who held it, so in reality, wrestling fans would have no reason to complain when it comes to the “Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment” and his quest for the WWE Championship.
