The Two Sheds Review: Guest Booker: Yesterday & Today
What if? It’s a question that’s been asked throughout the history of professional wrestling. What if Hogan faced Flair at Wrestlemania 8? What if Eric Bischoff led the WCW invasion of the WWF? There’s thousands of what if questions you could ask.
Now you can add another question to that list. What if WWE purchased TNA? That’s something Kayfabe Commentaries asked in their latest Guest Booker release.
Entitled Yesterday & Today it brings together Kevin Sullivan and Gabe Sapolsky. These two have close ties booking-wise. Sullivan was Paul Heyman’s mentor. Sapolsky was Paul Heyman’s protégé.
With Sean Oliver posing the questions these two expert bookers bring together their ideas on what could happen if Dixie Carter got to the point where she sold up to Vince McMahon.
As is the custom with this series the boys don’t get down to business straight away. The first hour of this two hour show sees our protagonists discussing their careers, how they got into the creative side of things and what their philosophies are. They also offer their views on the current product being put out by the big two and how they’ve gone wrong in certain areas.
Then they get down to the matter at hand, how WWE’s massive roster could be integrated with TNA’s massive roster. This is where it got interesting because whereas you and me would probably do a straight-up invasion angle these two had others ideas, and those ideas were very good, ranging from sending some of the underused and stale mid-card talent on extended tours of the indy circuit and overseas to giving the Divas and the Knockouts their own show to their plans for TNA’s ageing stars.
In short, the ideas are great. Sullivan and Sapolsky have certainly done their homework on this one, and their ideas seem fresh and extremely workable in a non-egotistical fantasy kind of way.
So is this thing worth buying? It’s definitely interesting viewing, and the two main characters come across very well. But if you’re expecting these two to get into a heated argument over booking ideas then this may not be the DVD for.
If I’m going to be totally honest then I’ve got to say that while this is a good release it’s not the best release in this series. That doesn’t stop me from giving it the thumbs up though.
