TNA Impact Wrestling Review – March 27, 2015

With all the talk of WrestleMania yesterday, everything else kind of got lost in the shuffle. However, this week’s, Impact Wrestling had a really fun show and it is worth your time. The theme of this show was “Hardy’s Revenge” and the tone was set very early with an awesome promo from James Storm and Jeff Hardy within the Six Sides of Steel. This would remind everyone of why they are feuding and really got me pumped to see what would happen inside the cage tonight.

However, our first match was for the TNA X-Division Title with the new champion Rockstar Spud defending against Low-Ki. I am a fan of Low –Ki and I have been won over by Spud as of late. I do think a gimmick change was needed and playing the uber baby face is a great role for him.

He looks good with the title and crowd love him, so all good things. The match was a standard X-Division match which is not a bad thing. Low-Ki controlled a lot of this match with violent kicks and a beat down, no pun intended, on the champ. The Strong Style that Ki works is great against a guy like Spud. Low Ki was distracted by Drew Galloway in the crowd and allowed Spud to win with a rollup.

Drew cut an outstanding promo on the Beatdown Clan. Drew came down to the ring and started a brawl with the BDC and his group The Rising. This new group features Drew, Myka (who was known as Camacho in WWE) and Eli Drake (Shaun Ricker in WWE’s NXT). Will this work? I don’t know but I am interested. Drew is a great talker and anything that features Drew in a top role is worth watching.

Awesome Kong destroyed Brooke Tessmacher in the next match. Sadly, and I love Kong, but every match that Kong has is kind of the same: Kong hits a series of moves and beats her foe down after the match. Kong destroyed Brooke with two Implant Busters for the win. Kong then teased putting brooke through a table but was saved by the Knockouts Champ Taryn Terrell. This was in vain and Terrell was given an Awesome Bombs through the table to end the segment.

Next up was a six man tag match between Eric Young, Ethan Carter III, & Tyrus and Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, & Mr. Anderson. I am not a huge fan of these matches but I like all of these guys in here. It seemed that this a resetting of the upper midcard of TNA while still playing around with the major feuds of the past few months.

Aries was the standout in the match with Roode, of course. But E3 has seemed to have graduated to the main event scene now too. The ending of this one was kind strange but I liked it. Aries went for the 450 Splash, but EY moved. Aries landed on his knee and sold the injury. EY locked on Figure Four causing Aries to tap. It was smart and made sense. It was a nice rub for EY. The heels win!

Okay, main event time: Six Sides of Steel Weapons Match with Jeff Hardy vs. James Storm. It was great to see Jeff back in the ring. I am a lapse fan of Hardy but he is always fun. This of course was the first match since the sick spot a few months ago in New York at Lockdown were Hardy was smashed with a cowbell and fell from the top of the cage.

The match started with a series of grapples and strikes; Hardy was heavy on the high flying stuff. Storms slowed it down with trashcans and reversals from Hardy’s top rope move set. Storm hits one of the best Superkicks in the business today and Hardy ate a few of them.

Both guys told a great story throughout with the cowbell spot setting up Hardy’s comeback. Hardy nailed storm with the bell and an insane tope of the splash to win the match. This was a fun outing and a nice way for Jeff to get back into the fold in TNA. Watch this match, you’ll enjoy it.
