2001 – The Monday Night War entered its last week before the WWF buyout of WCW: WWF Raw defeated WCW Monday Nitro: 4.6 to 2.1 in the ratings

2007 – Sports Illustrated reports that several WWE wrestlers are linked to Scottsdale, Arizona doctor David Wilbirt, who was under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency for being a part of an Internet drug ring, writing nearly 4,000 illegal prescriptions. Names included in the report included Kurt Angle, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Gregory Helms, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton & at least five others.


In 1995, WCW Uncensored was held at the Tupelo Coliseum in Tupelo, Mississippi:

WCW Main Event:
– Alex Wright defeated Mark Starr
– “Stunning” Steve Austin defeated Tim Horner
– Stars & Stripes (The Patriot &Marcus Bagwell) defeated Bunkhouse Buck & Dick Slater
– The Blacktop Bully defeated Dustin Rhodes in a King of the Road Match. Both men were fired for blading during the match, violating WCW’s no-blood policy
– Mend (with Col. Robert Parker) defeated Jim Duggan in a Martial Arts Match. With Sonny Onoo as the Special Guest Referee
– Johnny B Badd (with Roc Finnegan) defeated Arn Anderson (with Col. Robert Parker) by KO in a Boxer vs Wrestler Match
– Randy Savage defeated Avalanche by DQ after Ric Flair (posing as a fan) attacked Savage. Despite the finish, the match had been advertised as a no-DQ contest
– Big Bubba Rogers defeated Sting
– The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) defeated Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) in a Falls Count Anywhere Match
– Hulk Hogan (with The Renegade) defeated Vader (with Ric Flair) in a Strap Match

In 1999, CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas: El Santo y Salvador Lutteroth was held in Mexico City. The event had been slightly renamed from previous years, having previously only honoured Lutteroth:

– Ringo Mendoza & Super Astro defeated Ultimo Guerrero & Violencia to advance to the Torneo Salvador Lutteroth final
– Mr Niebla & Shocker defeated Los Missioneros del Muerte (El Signo & Negro Navarro) to advance to the Torneo Salvador Lutteroth final
– Ringo Mendoza & Super Astro defeated Mr. Niebla & Shocker to win the Torneo Salvador Lutteroth
– Hijo del Santo & Negro Casas defeated Bestia Salvaje & Scorpio Jr in a Mask vs Hair Match, forcing Salvaje to shave his head and Scorpio to unmask

In 2000, the final WCW Uncensored was held at American Airlines Arena, in Miami, Florida. It may be of interest to some that Hulk Hogan appeared in the main event of every Uncensored PPV since its inception in 1995:

However, immediately after the match, The Dudley Boyz received their title shot & beat Edge & Christian to win the WWF Tag Team Titles. Also, Raven defeats The Big Show to win the WWF Hardcore Title

2002 – on Smackdown, William Regal defeats Diamond Dallas Page to win the WWF European Title

2005 – RAVE (Kristian Frost & Zack Statik) defeated Sabotage (D.C. Dillinger & Eddie Edwards) to win the New England Championship Wrestling Tag Team Title in Framingham, Massachusetts

In Memoriam

On this day in 2006, Hiromichi “Kodo” Fuyuki dies at age 42 from cancer in Yokohama, Japan. He had been battling intestinal cancer, which spread to his liver. Fuyuki was a mainstay of FMW in Japan during the 1990s, winning nearly every title in the promotion. He also worked for International Pro Wrestling, All Japan & WAR
