World Wrestling Entertainment is a global sports entertainment organization. Countries like Egypt, Mexico, India, UK, South Africa, Canada and countless more countries are fans of professional wrestling, with United States being the main territory of wrestling. Fans from around the world are talking about wrestlers, are wearing wrestling merchandise, and are watching wrestling regularly. Also, some fans are also members of the Internet Wrestling Community, a community which gives a chance for fans, no matter what age, to discuss about their likes/dislikes in the world of professional wrestling. Accordingly, likes and dislikes matter a lot to the fan. John Cena is the hearth throb of kids under the age of thirteen, but is hated by mostly everyone above that age. Also, many superstars like the Rock are loved by everyone, irrespective of their age. What makes a superstar likable? There are two things in a superstar which attract the common viewers. One, is the wrestling ability, and two, is the microphone skills.
Wrestling ability has been the pivotal focus of a young man who wants to be a wrestler. Arguably, the focal point of the WWE is wrestling. Without wrestling skills, we would see boring and sloppy matches every day, and even though there are some terrible wrestlers, there are incredible wrestlers too that carry the company. Mic skills, which are the topic of this article, however, are extremely important. A wrestler with average ability can be on the top, if he has splendid mic skills. Even in real life, a man, who is less educated than the others, can be on top if he can communicate well with his boss, his colleagues and his clients. It’s exactly the same with professional wrestling. WWE has numerous talents in their wide roster with charisma, and mic skills. Let’s take a look at the top ten superstars in the WWE, who, irrespective of their wrestling ability, can talk the talk.
10. Santino Marella
The resident Italian in the WWE, Santino Marella is usually relegated to the joke segments on Monday Night RAW. Having a sock as his finisher, it does not scream “fan favorite”, but rather screams “corny joke”. What has made Santino Marella a fan favorite, instead of a comedian was his apt mic skills. His ability to talk on the mic has changed the way the fans think about him, and unlike Hornswoggle, his mic skills have saved him.
Right now, he spends his time competing against multiple wrestlers, and is (sorta) currently involved in a feud with Mr. Five Languages, Antonio Cesaro. But for what it’s worth, Santino Marella is funny, and can be serious at any given time on the microphone, and hence, is pretty underrated on the microphone.
9. Wade Barrett
The British Bad-ass, Wade Barrett is one of the future main event stars of the WWE. The winner of NXT Season 1, Wade Barrett was the leader of the original Nexus, and was a focal point of RAW in 2010. Wade Barrett is a former Intercontinental Champion, and is now on the brink of WWE gold.
The factors which differentiate him from the rest are his mic skills, and his ability to turn the crowd with his speech. He can easily make a crowd hate him, and can also make them like him. His best promos have been the “Winds of Change” from NXT and a few from RAW and Smackdown. Simply put, Wade Barrett is the complete package, and is destined for greatness in the WWE.
8. John Cena
The face of the WWE and the leader of Cenation, John Cena has everything a man wants. Cena is credited for selling WWE arenas, merchandise and increase buy rates. He is Vince McMahon’s go-to wrestler, and that’s because he can put on good performances in the ring, and can also cut an emotional promo when required. Started with a rapping gimmick, John Cena was always focused on playing with words, as he insulted his opponents in the form of rap, which was interesting to watch and listen to.
Right now, John Cena is feuding with Dolph Ziggler, and CM Punk (for the title), and he is doing what he does best: putting on a good show, and building up to Survivor Series, where he will possibly defeat CM Punk to become the new WWE Champion. John Cena is the face of the WWE, and mic skills help a lot for that achievement.
Mr. Charisma, Christian is one of the most talented wrestlers on the entire roster, and he’s one of the veterans in the WWE currently. He can certainly wrestle when needed to, and can also talk on the microphone. He is extremely charismatic, and thus can be entertaining, yet serious on the mic, while being funny. He has a great quality of having a good voice, which suits him and his character. Christian has been a multiple tag team champion with Edge, and is also a former Intercontinental Champion. He has also been a two time World Champion and his mic skills have made him come a long way in this business.
After recently winning the tag team championships along with Daniel Bryan, Kane has been doing an excellent job, as he has entertained multiple people with his flare and charisma. He is one of the best talkers in the WWE, and rightfully so, since he has won a lot of accolades due to that. He can be extremely serious when needed to, but can also crack a much-needed joke when necessary.
Kane has had some serious promos with the Undertaker and various other superstars, and is one of the best in the ring and on the microphone today.
5. Daniel Bryan
‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’ or ‘No! No! No!’, but Daniel Bryan has been entertaining throughout his new shtick, which began at WrestleMania 28 after losing to Sheamus in an 18-second bout. Also, being dumped by AJ and also becoming the tag champions, these months have been extremely hectic for the Aberdeen-born superstar. He has been providing solid bouts in the ring, but has improved on the mic a lot, and now is one of the superstars who gets the best reactions, second to John Cena. Simply put, Bryan has improved a lot on the microphone, and now is bearing rewards for the same.
4. The Miz
WWE’s resident loudmouth, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been the media spokesperson for a year now. He has participated in multiple interviews and TV commercials, and for that to go on efficiently, he needs to have excellent mic skills; which he possess. He is a talented superstar, and his position currently suits him. He has never been afraid to speak in front of huge crowds, and he has always been an outspoken entertainer.
Being the former Intercontinental Champion, the Miz has done everything there is to do in the WWE, as he has made a huge impact, and he owes that to his talking skills.
3. Damien Sandow
Here to educate all the unwashed masses, Damien Sandow has been a focal point of Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown for a long time. Debuting this year, Damien Sandow has made quite the impact with his mic skills, and his talents in the ring. A man of an enormous vocabulary, Damien Sandow has been using huge words to confuse the WWE universe, because he can educate the “unwashed masses”, i.e., the common wrestling fans.
His mannerisms, his attire, his attitude and his charisma are definitely going to make him the next main event superstar in WWE. But for now, he might win the tag titles, and will have an high-impact rise to the top, because he’s gold at wrestling and talking.
2. Triple H
The King of Kings, the Cerebral Assassin, and the 13-Time World Champion, Triple H is one of the best stars WWE has. Hunter Hearst Helmsley is one of the veterans on the WWE roster currently, and as the CEO of the WWE, it’s his responsibility to have a good personality, as he needs to make speeches every day, regarding various business issues. Triple H has hardly disappointed Vince in his role, as he has been one of the best talkers. Also, he makes rare appearances on WWE TV, but puts on good performances.
Triple H is truly the king of cutting promos, and he has mastered the art of cutting promos in his long stay with World Wrestling Entertainment. WWE is privileged to have such a wrestler within their ranks, and Triple H has proved why he deserves the CEO of the company.
1. CM Punk
The self-proclaimed “Best in the World”, CM Punk has been WWE Champion for more than three hundred days now. He is constantly providing good matches plus emotional feuds with his ability to wrestle, and talk on the microphone. While Paul Heyman is on his side, it’s been CM Punk who’s doing the talking, as he is building up to Survivor Series, to face the real face of the WWE, John Cena and Ryback. It’s all about respect to CM Punk, as he would like to change a few things in the WWE.
His character is of a man who feels that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. To play that character, it takes a lot of work and some exceptional mic skills to make it believable, and CM Punk is doing the same, and thus CM Punk is the best talker in the WWE today. Is he the best wrestler in the WWE? The answer is no, but he is the best talker in the WWE, and it’s about time the WWE shows him some respect.
