WWE: Brothers Of Destruction: Greatest Matches DVD & Blu-ray Review

Brothers of Destruction: Greatest Matches is a no-frills set which collects some of Kane and The Undertaker’s best matches as a tag team in 2001 and during their brief reunions in 2006 and 2008. While the set doesn’t contain the type of classic battles you’ll one day want to tell your kids about, it’s still a fun collection which is an essential purchase for anyone who considers themselves a fan of the duo.

Kicking off with a slick promo introducing the brothers, the first couple of matches against Edge & Christian (in which they would win their first WWE Tag Team Championship) and The Dudley Boys make for a great blast from the past against two of the WWE’s greatest tag teams. The focus then shifts to their feud with DDP, and after a pretty forgettable bout with WCW Tag Team Champions Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire, the first part of the feature concludes with a pretty brutal Unification Steel Cage Match against DDP and Kanyon. Remember him? Regardless, this match and the one which precedes it offer up a nice sense of coherency as we get what are essentially the main highlights from this particular storyline.

We then jump to 2006 as the Brothers of Destruction reteamed to take out MVP and Mr. Kennedy before their respective singles matches with them at Armageddon. Next up is a hard hitting bout with Mark Henry and Big Daddy V from 2008, and the set concludes with a forgettable match against then WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz and John Morrison. To be blunt, the best part about this one was seeing both Kane (ECW Champion) and Undertaker (World Heavyweight Champion) wearing world titles at the same time.

Overall, each of the matches flow along at a nice pace and the 90 minute runtime means that this set is a good choice if you just want to kick back and chill out while reliving some fun bouts featuring Kane and The Undertaker. It never drags regardless of the odd dip in quality here and there, but there are certainly no bad matches; they’re all highly entertaining!

Special Features

In some respects, the Blu-ray exclusive matches top those actually in the main feature! The first couple revisit their time together back in the late 90s, but arguably the best one on the entire disc is Kane and The Undertaker’s battle with Steve Austin and Triple H back in 2001 when both the Tag Team and Intercontinental and WWE Championships were all on the line in a 25+ minute back and fore match which is so damn good. A surprise and very worthy addition is the reunion that the Brothers of Destruction had in 2013 when Team Hell No fought alongside The Undertaker for his first match on Raw in over three years against The Shield. Awesome stuff.

While it would be hard to call this essential, Brothers of Destruction: Greatest Matches is great fun and a must-have for anyone who considers themselves a fan of one of the WWE’s most memorable tag teams.
