WWE Cruiserweight Classic Results – August 24, 2016

We begin with a look at the trophy for the winner of the Cruiserweight Classic on Sepember 14th.

We look back at highlights from last week’s show.

Corey Graves reminds us of the matches this week. Zack Sabre Junior versus Drew Gulak. Rich Swann versus Lince Dorado. Johnny Gargano versus TJ Perkins.

We are in Winter Park, Florida and your announcers are Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan.

We take a look at Lince Dorado. Lince says he expected to get here because this is all he thought about. Now he is on the biggest stage he has ever been on. He says he is a hybrid wrestler and a hybrid luchador. He says it does not matter who his opponent is. At the end of the night, they will know his name. To be here right now and showcase what he does, it will inspire a generation of kids.

Rich Swann says wrestling saved his life. His father passed away when he was twelve and his mother passed away when he was sixteen. Wrestling changed him. He wants to be able to show the WWE Universe who he is. He says his style is high energy. He says people are not going to be expecting what he pulls out at the CWC.

Match Number One: Lince Dorado versus Rich Swann in a Second Round Tournament Match

They lock up and Dorado with a side head lock. Dorado with a shoulder tackle. Swann flips over Dorado but Dorado with a rollup for a near fall and Swann with a near fall. Dorado with a head scissors and Swann lands on his feet. Swann does the same and Dorado lands on his feet. Dorado stops Swann from dancing . . . and Dorado does some Alex Wright moves. Swann with a drop kick to Dorado when Dorado goes for a leap frog. Swann does some dancing. Dorado with a kick to Swann and then he hits a springboard drop kick followed by a springboard plancha.

Dorado gets a near fall. Dorado with an Irish whip and Dorado goes for a splash into the corner but since Dorado is a cat, he lands on his feet. Swann with a neck breaker. Swann with a modified Stretch Muffler as he works on the ribs. Dorado with knees to escape. Dorado with a rollup for a near fall. Swann with a rolling punch and Dorado punches back. Swann with punches but he misses a back fist. Dorado with a chop. Dorado with an Irish whip and forearm. Swann with a forearm and kick. Swann puts Dorado on the turnbuckles and tries for a jumping rana but Dorado blocks it. Both men go for bicycle kicks and both connect and go down.

Dorado and Swann exchange punches as they get back to their feet. They add chops to the exchange. They go back and forth until they can no longer get anything on their punches. Dorado with a jumping knee. Swann with an Irish whip and Dorado goes to the apron and hits an enzuigiri and hits a cross body for a near fall. Swann holds on to the ropes when Dorado tries for a German suplex. Swann lands on his feet and hits a rolling clothesline for a near fall. Swann sets for the standing 450 but Dorado gets his knees up and Dorado with an inside cradle for a near fall.

Dorado with a shoulder and elbow followed by an enzuigiri. Dorado leaps over Swann but Swann with a series of kicks. Dorado with a reverse rana for a near fall. Dorado pulls Swann into position for the shooting star press. Dorado misses and Swann pulls himself up and he goes up top for a Phoenix Splash and he gets the three count.

Winner: Rich Swann (Advances to face the winner of Johnny Gargano versus TJ Perkins)

We see footage from Saturday of Johnny Gargano teaming with Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Tag Titles against Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder.

Johnny Gargano is asked about his match against TJ Perkins. He says TJ has a phenomenal resume but Johnny says many people consider him the favorite and he is not going to let anyone down. He will do whatever it takes to walk out of the building one step closer to the finals.

Drew Gulak says he was told he would not amount to anything when he started. It is not easy but it never deterred him. What makes him better is that he has a clear view of what is going on. If he applies the move right, you are going to have to quit. You take that angle and take advantage of it. Drew says he is super confident. Zack S

Zack Sabre says wrestling is a passion for him. He was mesermized by Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero. He says he has some tricks up his sleeve. He says he is driven by his love of professional wrestling. If he is the best technical wrestler in the world, he will win this tournament. When you love something and put the time in, you will get the rewards.

Match Number Two: Drew Gulak versus Zack Sabre Junior in a Second Round Tournament Match

Sabre tries to take Gulak down but Gulak stays on top for a moment. Sabre works on the arm but Gulak is able to escape. Sabre with a wrist lock into a straitjacket choke. Gulak with an arm drag but Sabre with a reversal. Sabre shimmies out of the Japanese stranglehold. Sabre stretches Gulak but Gulak kicks Sabre away. Gulak with kicks using the ropes for leverage. Gulak with a chop. Gulak with a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Gulak with a head butt to the midsection and Gulak works on the wrist and then he applies a seated abdominal streatch and he slaps Sabre.

Sabre with knees to get out of the hold. Gulak with an elbow. Sabre with an Irish whip and Gulak goes to the apron and Gulak with a forearm. Gulak comes off the turnbuckles but Sabre catches Gulak and applies a Fujiwara arm bar. Gulak rolls through and gets Sabre up for a Gory Special and he rolls Sabre over into a bridge. Gulak with a boston crab but Sabre counters into a rollup for a near fall. Gulak with a chop and elbow. Gulak wtih a fireman’s carry into a chin lock. Sabre wtih an Octopus on Gulak and he tries to manipulate the arm. Gulak with an ankle lock.

Sabre with a side head lock but Gulak with a belly-to-back suplex to escape. Gulak gets Sabre up but Sabre with a kimura but Gulak slams Sabre into the ropes and Sabre holds his knee. Gulak with forearms and chops but Sabre with a kick and he gets a near fall. Sabre runs into a boot but Sabre with a rollup and bridge for a near fall. Sabre and Gulak slap each other. Gulak sends Sabre to his knees. Gulak slides under Sabre and hits a sunset flip for a near fall. Gulak goes for the Dragon Sleeper but Sabre with a rollup and bridge for the three count.

Winner: Zack Sabre Jr. (Advances to face Noam Dar)

We go to commercial.

We are back and Corey Graves wonders how Johnny Gargano will do only four days after Takeover Brooklyn.

TJ Perkins says he feels like his generation looks up to heroes, but they have no one they can identify with. He wants to be that person. TJ wants people to see him wrestle and feel love. He takes pride in his ground based game and he feels that submission wrestling is the most important part of wrestling. He hopes someone sees him as all flash because they will continue to wonder about him. When you look back on history and people will look at this time. He will be on that list and he expects to be high on that list. He will win because he is a versatile performer.

Johnny Gargano says if you are going to win this, you needs to have your A game. When he is in the ring, he will pour his heart out for you. To be the guy you are going to look at and say he is the top cruiserweight in the world, it is a dream come true.

Match Number Three: Johnny Gargano versus TJ Perkins in a Second Round Tournament Match

They go to a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock and Perkins with a body scissors take down. Perkins gets a series of near falls. Gargano with a monkey flip but Perkins holds on. Perkins floats over and he goes for a monkey flip and Gargano holds on. Perkins with an arm bar submission into a Muta Lock. Gargano gets to the ropes. Perkins with a European uppercut. Gargano with an Irish whip and Perkins hangs in the ropes but Gargano with a drop kick and then he hits a suicide dive onto Perkins. Gargano chops Perkins and sends him into the ring. Perkins misses a clothesline and Gargano with an O’Connor Roll into a surfboard. Gargano tries for a rollup but Perkins with a rocking horse and then he goes for a surfboard and then he gets a near fall as he drops Gargano to the mat.

Perkins with an elbow and Irish whip but he runs into a boot. Perkins with a sunset flip but Gargano rolls through and Perkins with a head scissors take down. Gargano with a rollup and round kick. Perkins sends Gargano to the apron and Gargano with a slingshot spear. Gargano with a chop in the corner. Gargano with another chop into the corner. Gargano with another chop and he puts Perkins on the turnbuckles but Perkins gets to the mat and he drops Gargano onto his feet. Perkins with kicks and Gargano with an enzuigiri. Perkins with a sit out power bomb for a near fall.

Perkins with a side head lock and he sends Gargano to the apron. Gargano super kicks Perkins as Perkins goes for a springboard drop kick. Gargano comes off the apron with a cannonball but Perkins counters and sends Gargano into the ring bell. Gagano sends Perkins into the ring and Gargano goes for the slinghsot DDT but Perkins gets him on his shoulders and Perkins with a boot to the face followed by a gutbuster for a near fall. Perkins and Gargano exchange punches. Perkins sends Gargano into the ropes with a drop toe hold and Perkins wtih a springboard drop kick. Gargano with a super kick and Gargano tries for the lawn dart but his knee gives out. Perkins tries for the knee bar but Gargano counters into Gargano Escape. Gargano blocks a La Magistral and gets a near fall.

Perkins with a leaping neck breaker and he puts Gargano on the turnbuckles. Gargano hot shots Perkins onto the turnbuckles and Gargano wtih a lawn dart for a near fall. Gargano misses a super kick and then Perkins with a drop kick to the knee. Gargano with a super kick and Perkins counters Hurts Donut and locks in a knee bar. Gargano tries to get to the ropes but the pain is too much and Gargano taps out.

Winner: TJ Perkins (Advances to face Rich Swann)

After the match, Gargano gets his knee checked out by the medical staff.

We go to Corey Graves and he talks about the final eight. Akira Tozawa, Gran Metalik, Kota Ibushi, Noam Dar, Brian Kendrick, Rich Swann, Zack Sabre Jr., and TJ Perkins. Who will make their dream a reality?

The quarterfinals start next week.
