WWE Extreme Rules PPV Results – April 29, 2012

– We’re live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois as Matt Striker and Michael Cole welcome us to the Extreme Rules pre-show. They rundown the card for tonight.

WWE United States Title Match: The Miz vs. Santino Marella

We go to the ring and out first comes The Miz for tonight’s pre-show match. Miz has a mic and cuts his music. He isn’t happy about being on the Extreme Rules pre-show. Miz says he gave John Laurinaitis his power by winning at WrestleMania 28 and this is what he gets in return. Miz says he main evented Extreme Rules last year. Miz goes on and says he will win the US Title tonight. WWE United States Champion Santino Marella interrupts him and out he comes.

Santino strikes first and chases Miz out of the ring with a Cobra. Miz comes back in and knocks Santino down. Miz stomps away and takes control of the match. Miz with a big kick in the head for a 2 count. Miz goes on and gets another 2 count. Miz with a big DDT for another 2 count. Miz with the clothesline in the corner before going up top. Miz comes down with a big ax handle for another 2 count. Santino gets a quick roll up for 2 but Miz clotheslines him back to the mat. Miz takes Santino the apron and hits the knee to the face from the floor. “You suck” chants for Miz now. Miz comes off the top again and Santino catches him with a shot to the gut. Santino comes back with his usual moves. Miz blocks the Cobra but gets hit by it after turning around. Santino covers for the win.

Winner: Santino Marella

– Cole and Striker talk about tonight’s card. We go backstage with Eve Torres, Teddy Long, Cody Rhodes and Intercontinental Champion Big Show. Eve tells Teddy to spin the Roulette wheel. It lands on a Tables Match and that’s the stipulation for tonight’s IC Title match. Show tells Cody good luck and walks off. Cody blames this on Teddy. Striker and Cole go back to discussing tonight’s card.

– The 2012 WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view opens up with a look at the Brock Lesnar and John Cena feud. Michael Cole welcomes us to a sold out Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois as the pyro goes off.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Kane vs. Randy Orton

We go to the ring and out first comes Kane.

We get a look back at the feud between these two before Randy Orton makes his way out. The bell rings and Kane takes Orton to the corner and they go at it. Orton boots Kane off and clubs him with forearm shots from the second rope. Kane comes out of nowhere with a big uppercut and knocks Orton to the floor. Kane with a 2 count on the floor.

Kane gets a pipe and brings it in the ring. Orton fights him off and takes the pipe. Orton works Kane over with the steel pipe and knocks him out of the ring. Orton goes to the floor but Kane hits him with a big right hand. They fight into the crowd and in the middle of the fans now. They trade right hands through the crowd and start slamming each other into the barriers. The crowd cheers Orton on as he takes control.

Orton covers for a 2 count on the concrete. Kane fights back now and scoop slams Orton on the floor. Kane levels Orton with a big shot to the head and gets another 2 count on the concrete. Kane fights Orton back towards the ringside area now. They fight up the steps a bit but back down towards the stage area. Orton counters Kane and dropkicks him in front of the set.

Orton covers for another 2 count on the floor. Kane gets up and fires back with a big boot for a 2 count of his own. They fight back behind the set and the camera finds the brawl continuing in the backstage area. Kane takes control but Orton fights back with right hands. Orton throws Kane into the area where several WWE talents are watching the pay-per-view. Kane beats Orton against the wall until Zack Ryder appears. Ryder attacks Kane from behind but it doesn’t stop him. Kane goes to chokeslam Ryder but Orton hits a backbreaker for a 2 count.

The brawl continues through the backstage area. Kane throws stuff at Orton and takes him back down for another 2 count on the floor. Kane brings Orton back to the stage area. Orton fights back now as they come down the ramp to the ring. Orton brings Kane in the ring and works him over in the corner. Kane looks to come back but Orton hits a big clothesline. Kane comes right back up but Orton powerslams him. Orton goes under the ring and brings a steel chair in the ring. Orton beats Kane repeatedly with the chair. Kane rolls out of the ring and Orton follows. Orton slams Kane into the announce table and continues the assault.

Kane gets up and tries to chokeslam Orton through the table. Orton counters it and knocks Kane onto the table. Orton hits the draping DDT on the floor with Kane hanging off the table. Orton covers for a close 2 count on the floor. Orton goes for a RKO but Kane shoves him into the ring post head first. Kane with a 2 count on the floor. Kane throws Orton back into the ring. Kane goes to the top but Orton takes his leg out. Orton hits Kane with a right and climbs up top with him. Orton nails a big superplex from the top and covers Kane for 2. Orton readies for Kane to get up but Kane catches him with a chokeslam. Orton still kicks out at 2. Kane positions the chair and readies to Tombstone Orton onto it. Orton counters the Tombstone and RKO’s Kane onto the chair. Orton covers, this time for the win.

Winner: Randy Orton

– Eve Torres and John Laurinaitis are backstage watching the pay-per-view. Eve has a surprise for Laurinaitis. She has Teddy Long bring in 2 glasses and 2 bottles of champagne on ice. Teddy pours them glasses. Eve says this toast is to change and people power. Ace’s cell phone rings and it’s Triple H calling. Laurinaitis says sure he can talk and walks off to a more private place.

Brodus Clay vs. Dolph Ziggler

We go to the ring and out comes Brodus Clay with Hornswoggle and the Funkettes dancing. Vickie Guerrero is out next and says here’s the man who will defeat Brodus tonight – Dolph Ziggler. Dolph comes out with Jack Swagger right behind him.

The bell rings and Brodus with the first move. Ziggler tries to take the leg out but can’t. Clay dances around as Ziggler gets back up. Swagger distracts Clay and Ziggler dropkicks him in the back, sending him out to the floor. Swagger runs over Clay on the floor as the referee is distracted by Ziggler. The referee begins to count Clay out.

Brodus comes back in and fights back but Ziggler kicks his leg out. Ziggler with the big leg drop to the back of the head for a 2 count. Ziggler goes back to the attack on Clay. Clay fights back again but Ziggler stops him and gets another 2 count. Ziggler goes back to keeping Clay grounded on the mat. Clay stands up with Ziggler on his back with the sleeper hold applied. Clay jiggles and slams Ziggler, breaking the sleeper. Ziggler goes right back to fighting Clay. Brodus finally throws Ziggler off and dances. Brodus runs over Ziggler and makes his comeback. Clay with a big headbutt. The crowd chants for Ziggler but Brodus hits the big splash for the win.

Winner: Brodus Clay

– Clay, Hornswoggle and his dancers celebrate after the match.

– We see footage from the pre-show where Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show was given the stipulation of a Tables Match.

Tables Match for the WWE Intercontinental Title: Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show

Crew members are setting up tables around the ring and the walkway as Lilian Garcia makes the introductions. Out first comes the WWE Intercontinental Champion Big Show. The challenger Cody Rhodes is out next.

The bell rings and here we go. Show with a big chop in the corner early. Show unloads on Cody and hits another massive chop. Show with a huge back body drop and sends Cody out to the floor. Show with another huge chop on the floor. Show sets up a table but Cody comes back over. Cody goes for a kick but Show grabs his leg and shoves him into the barrier. Show with another big chop to the chest. Show tosses Cody around on the floor and keeps control of the match.

They come back in the ring and Show leans a table up in the corner. Show throws Cody into the table but he jumps off it and hits the Beautiful Disaster kick. Cody goes for another kick but Show drops him with a shoulder block. Cody goes back to the floor. Cody goes to the other side of the ring after stalling and grabs a table. Show grabs him but Cody fights back. Show drops him with a big clothesline and continues to dominate the match. Show uses a table to get back in the ring but the table breaks and Cody wins the match.

Winner and New WWE Intercontinental Champion: Cody Rhodes

– After the match, Cody begins to celebrate but Show runs over him with a big spear. Show takes out his frustrations on Cody and puts him through several tables.

– Matt Striker is backstage with Daniel Bryan. Bryan talks about how he is better than Sheamus in any way imaginable. Bryan rips the Chicago fans next. Bryan says tonight he will become the two-time World Heavyweight Champion and walks off chanting yes. We see AJ Lee come out of the shadows.

– We get a promo video looking back at the Bryan vs. Sheamus feud.

2 of 3 Falls Match for the World Heavyweight Title: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus

We go to the ring and out first comes the challenger Daniel Bryan. Out next comes the World Heavyweight Champion and he’s mostly booed by the Chicago crowd.

Lilian Garcia does formal ring introductions and here we go. Sheamus strikes first with a big shoulder and sends Bryan to the mat. They tangle and Sheamus goes for a Brogue Kick but Bryan dodges it. They lock up and Sheamus takes Bryan to the mat. Sheamus drops some knees for a 1 count. They lock up again and Bryan goes behind. They trade hold son the mat some more. Sheamus with another shoulder. Sheamus catches Bryan on his shoulders and hits his roll finisher for a 2 count. Bryan rolls Sheamus up but Sheamus turns it into a Cloverleaf. Bryan makes it to the ropes and breaks the hold.

Bryan with another roll up for 2. They go back and forth. Bryan takes Sheamus down and Sheamus rolls to the apron. Bryan dropkicks Sheamus out to the floor. Bryan runs the apron and leaps off but Sheamus catches him in mid-air. Sheamus drives Bryan hard into the fan barrier. They bring it back in the ring and Sheamus goes to the top. Bryan kicks the ropes and Sheamus falls. Bryan stomps away as the crowd does dueling chants. Bryan drops knees into Sheamus’ head now and covers for another 2 count.

Bryan takes Sheamus back to the mat and keeps him grounded. Sheamus fights out with elbows to the head. Bryan cuts him off with a knee to the gut and a dropkick to the head. 1 count for Bryan. Sheamus fights back but Bryan hits uppercuts and kicks. Bryan ducks a clothesline and rolls Sheamus up for 2. Bryan with more uppercuts and offense. Bryan works on the shoulder now and takes Sheamus back to the mat. More back and forth on their feet. Sheamus sends Bryan to the apron and clubs away with a series of forearms to the chest. Sheamus with a fall-away slam for a 2 count.

Bryan sends Sheamus face first into the turnbuckle and then kicks him in the back of the head. Bryan with another roll-up for 2. Bryan stomps away in the corner now. Bryan takes Sheamus up top but Sheamus blocks a hurricanrana. Sheamus comes off the top with the battering ram and takes Bryan down for a close 2 count. Sheamus ends up out on the floor. Bryan runs the ring and goes to dive through the ropes but Sheamus knocks him back with a big forearm shot to the head. Sheamus comes in and goes for the Celtic Cross but Bryan rolls through for a pin attempt but it’s broken. Bryan goes for the Yes Lock but Sheamus blocks it. Bryan goes for it again but Sheamus blocks it again. Bryan goes for the Yes Lock again but Sheamus fights him off. Sheamus charges in the corner but Bryan moves and he hits his shoulder on the ring post. Bryan rams Sheamus into the ring post again, and again. Bryan continues to use the ring post to damage the shoulder of Sheamus. Bryan comes back in the ring and kicks Sheamus several times while he’s on his knees. Bryan unloads with kicks as the referee tells him to stop. Bryan won’t and the referee calls for the bell and disqualification.

Sheamus earns the first fall by DQ.

Bryan has done the damage to the shoulder. He drags Sheamus over and applies the Yes Lock. Sheamus looks to be out and Bryan keeps the hold tightened. Sheamus goes for the ropes but Bryan keeps it locked. The referee calls for the bell for a submission.

Bryan earns the second fall by submission.

Trainers come in the ring to check on Sheamus as Bryan chants “yes” and gets the crowd to start a massive chant. This goes on for a few minutes and Sheamus tells them he wants to continue. There is one fall left to decide the match. Bryan charges as the match resumes and Sheamus nails a Brogue Kick out of nowhere. Sheamus crawls over and covers Bryan for a close 2 count.

Bryan gets to his feet as Sheamus tries to get up. Bryan stops him with a big kick. Sheamus fights back from his knees but Bryan knocks him over with a big kick to the head. Bryan covers for a 2 count. Bryan goes to the top but Sheamus cuts him off and wails away with right hands. Sheamus climbs up and goes for a superplex but it’s blocked. Bryan knocks Sheamus back to the mat with headbutts. Bryan stands up and goes for the big diving headbutt but Sheamus moves out of the way. Bryan goes for the dropkick in the corner but Sheamus moves again. Sheamus comes back with ax handle shots that barely hit. Sheamus hits the Irish Curse backbreaker and the crowd boo’s. Sheamus connects with a Brogue Kick for the win.

Winner: Sheamus

Ryback vs. Aaron Relic and Jay Hutton

Santino Marella and The Great Khali are backstage watching as two local wrestlers are in the ring. One guy takes a mic and talks about how nobody on SmackDown can beat Ryback. The other guy has a math equation for us and keeps repeating that two is greater than one. It gets really annoying when Ryback’s music hits and out he comes.

A big Goldberg chant breaks out from the crowd. The one guy tries to attack Ryback but it does nothing. He charges and Ryback floors him with a big boot. Ryback manhandles him and lifts him to the air for a big slam. Ryback drags him to the side and throws the partner in the ring. Ryback levels him with a big clothesline. Ryback hits his finishers on both of them and stacks one on top of the other for the pin.

Winner: Ryback

– We see Santino Marella and The Great Khali watching the match backstage. Ryback celebrates in the ring as the Goldberg chants continue.

– Matt Striker is backstage with WWE Champion CM Punk. The crowd pops big time for the hometown hero. Punk talks about Chris Jericho’s antics only making him stronger. Punk says he gets to beat Jericho in front of his family and 20,000 of his closest friends. Punk says Jericho will wake up with a hangover tomorrow morning because he put him to sleep.

– We get a promo video for tonight’s WWE Title match.

Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Title: Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk

We go to the ring and out first comes Chris Jericho to a ton of heat from the crowd. The WWE Champion CM Punk comes out next to a massive pop from Chicago. Punk is wearing a drug-free t-shirt and jeans. Punk greets his sister at ringside. Justin Roberts does formal ring introductions after the crowd finally stops chanting Punk’s name.

The bell rings and they exchange stares. They charge and start brawling. Punk with knees and punches to the gut. Punk beats Jericho down in the corner and stomps away. Jericho ends up on the floor and Punk follows, attacking from behind. Punk throws chairs in the ring and rolls Jericho in. Punk goes under the ring for a kendo stick. He comes in the ring and cracks Jericho in the back with it. Punk with a kick to the face and another shot with the stick. Punk takes a big swing but Jericho avoids it and goes back to the floor. Punk chases him around the ring and back in. Punk with a clothesline.

Punk with another shot with the kendo stick. Jericho crawls on his knees and grabs the referee for safety. Punk comes over and Jericho hits a cheap shot and a dropkick. Punk ends up on the apron and Jericho connects with a springboard kick to send him to the floor. Jericho goes out to the floor and works Punk over. Jericho throws Punk hard into the barrier and he flies over it. Right hands from Jericho now. Punk fights back but Jericho headbutts him and brings it back in the ring. Jericho takes the padding off the top turnbuckle and drops an elbow. Punk comes back with chops and takes Jericho to the corner. Punk goes for the high knee in the corner but Jericho moves and Punk lands out on the floor.

Jericho takes Punk in front of his family at ringside. Jericho takes the padding off the barrier and slams Punk into it. Jericho taunts Punk’s family but gets slapped by his sister. Jericho charges Punk’s sister but Punk leaps up and beats him to the ground. Punk unloads on Jericho and rips the announce tables apart. Punk loses it and slams Jericho into the plastic top of the announce table, breaking it. Punk goes to piledrive Jericho on the floor but Jericho counters and backdrops him.

Jericho hits Punk with a monitor and then a piece of the table. Jericho brings it back in the ring for a 2 count. Jericho puts a knee into Punk’s back now. More back and forth. Punk tries to springboard in but slips on the top rope. Jericho meets him with the kendo stick and beats him with it. Jericho taunts Punk as he lays on the mat and points out his sister. Punk rolls Jericho out of nowhere for a 2 count. Punk charges but Jericho drops him. Jericho covers for a 2 count. Jericho goes under the ring and grabs a can of beer. He brings it in and gives Punk a beer bath.

Jericho works Punk over some more and grabs another can of beer. Jericho takes a drink of beer and Punk kicks him in the gut. Punk comes back and beats Jericho down with the kendo stick. Punk with a clothesline and more offense. Punk hits the knee in the corner and the bulldog as the crowd chants his name. Punk puts the kendo stick between Jericho’s leg and yanks it up. Punk goes for the GTS but Jericho slides out. Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho but Punk counters it. Punk with a powerslam and a 2 count. Punk goes to the top for the elbow but Jericho cuts him off. Jericho climbs up for a superplex but Punk blocks it. Punk fights back and sends Jericho to the mat.

Punk comes off the top rope and nails the elbow drop but Jericho kicks out at 2. A “Randy Savage” chant breaks out. Punk with right hands now. Punk goes for GTS but Jericho fights out. Jericho drops Punk and goes for the Lionsault but Punk blocks it. Punk goes for GTS again but Jericho counters again. Jericho fights back and throws Punk into the chair that was lodged in the corner. Jericho with a 2 count. Punk comes over but Jericho barely hits a Codebreaker out of nowhere. Jericho goes for the Walls again but can’t get it turned. He finally does and the referee checks on Punk. Punk crawls to the ropes as the fans get behind him. Punk makes it to the ropes but the hold isn’t broken because of the Street Fight. Punk manages to reach under the ring and grab a fire extinguisher. Jericho pulls him back to the center of the ring. Punk sprays the extinguisher and finally breaks the hold.

Punk immediately applies the Anaconda Vice. Jericho tries to get free but grabs the kendo stick and beats Punk with it until he lets go of the hold. A “this is awesome” chant breaks out now. Punk with a chair shot to the gut. Jericho hits a Codebreaker with the chair out of nowhere but Punk kicks out at 2. Jericho with a kendo shot. Jericho yells in frustration as he stomps on Punk and the crowd boos. Jericho picks Punk up and goes for GTS. The crowd boos big time as Jericho wastes times with Punk on his shoulders. Punk catches the leg out of GTS and goes for the Walls it looks like. Punk catapults Jericho into the corner and catches him in GTS for the pin and the win.

Winner: CM Punk

– After the match, Punk jumps to the fans at ringside for a celebration.

– Cole and Lawler recap the pre-show match with Santino Marella defeating The Miz to retain the US Title.

– Beth Phoenix is backstage arguing with The Bella Twins. Eve Torres walks up and says Beth isn’t cleared to wrestle so she’s out of the Divas Title match tonight. The Bellas go to leave and Eve says Nikki will defend against a surprise Diva tonight. Nikki doesn’t like surprises. Eve tells them not to worry because it’s not Kharma.

WWE Divas Title Match: Layla vs. Nikki Bella

We go to the ring and out comes WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella with her sister Brie. They take the mic and talks about being the longest reigning Divas Champion in history. They tell the mystery Diva to come on out because the title isn’t going anywhere. Layla’s music hits and out she comes making her return.

They lock up and Layla strikes first. They go at it and a “we want Kharma” chant starts. Layla with a 1 count. Nikki distracts the referee and Brie knocks Layla off the top. Nikki works on Layla’s injured knee now. Nikki with a 1 count. Nikki keeps in control working on the leg. Layla turns it around and rolls her up for 1. Nikki dropkicks the leg. Layla makes a comeback but gets rammed back into the corner. Layla fights out and hits a clothesline.

Layla with a crossbody from the corner. Brie gets involved but Layla knocks her back to the floor. More back and forth action and pin attempts. The Twins do the switch out and Brie comes in. Layla counters her and hits a neckbreaker for the win and the Divas Title.

Winner and New WWE Divas Champion: Layla

– Matt Striker catches John Laurinaitis backstage and asks him about Triple H calling earlier. Laurinaitis says it was business matters that don’t concern Striker but will be addressed on RAW tomorrow night.

– We get a promo video for tonight’s main event.

Extreme Rules Match: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

We go to the arena for the main event and the dueling chants for John Cena start up. Brock Lesnar’s music hits and out he comes with his new gear. John Cena’s music hits next and out he comes to a very mixed reaction.

Cena charges and Lesnar tackles him. Lesnar with punches and forearms. Lesnar runs over Cena with a big clothesline. The referee checks on Cena. Cena goes behind and slams Lesnar on his front side. Lesnar takes Cena down again and wails away with right hands. Cena’s head is already busted open. The referee stops the match and a trainer comes in as the crowd boos. Lesnar smirks as Cena bleeds from the elbow shots.

The trainer leaves the ring and Cena gets tackled again. Lesnar with more big shots to the head. Lesnar drops a big knee and just manhandles Cena, pushing him out of the ring. Brock taunts Cena and tells him to crawl back in. Another trainer comes down to fix Cena up as the referee stops things again. Cena charges and goes right for an Attitude Adjustment. Lesnar counters and nails a German suplex. Lesnar with another German. Lesnar goes for a third but Cena fights him off with elbows to the head. Cena hits a shoulder but it knocks Lesnar into the referee. The referee falls to the floor. Cena charges but Lesnar knocks him out of the air with a shoulder.

Lesnar with right hands to Cena’s busted open head. Cena goes for his chain that’s in the corner but Lesnar attacks from behind. Lesnar with shoulder thrusts in the corner now. Lesnar applies an armbar as Cena screams in pain. Lesnar manhandles Cena some more and sends him back out to the floor. Lesnar follows and applies another armbar before throwing Cena head first into the barrier. Lesnar rolls Cena back in the ring and enters on the steps. Lesnar grabs Cena’s chain and wraps it around his hand. Lesnar tosses the chain to the side and stomps on Cena before dropping a knee to the ribs. Lesnar grabs the chain and wraps it around Cena’s ankles. Lesnar tells Cena to stand up.

Cena manages to stand up and Lesnar nails a big clothesline. Lesnar puts Cena up on the top turnbuckle. Cena falls down but the chain has his legs tangled and he hangs upside down on the ringpost. Lesnar taunts him and hits more right hands from the floor. Lesnar knocks Cena free and he just falls out to the floor. We also see the referee laid out at ringside. Cena comes back with right hands but Lesnar stops him and slings him into the steel steps. Lesnar goes back over and throws the referee in the ring.

Cena crawls in the ring and goes for an Attitude Adjustment. Lesnar slides right out and goes for the F5 but the referee gets hit again and goes out to the floor. Lesnar has Cena pinned for several seconds until another referee runs down. Cena kicks out. Lesnar gets up pissed and clotheslines the referee before kicking him out of the ring. Lesnar takes the steel steps apart and throws one half in the ring. Lesnar stands up high on the part of the steps and poses. Cena comes back fighting but once again Lesnar stops him. Lesnar drops Cena onto the steps and applies another submission hold. Cena is busted in another spot now and screams in pain as Lesnar tightens the hold.

Cena powers to his feet and slams Lesnar back onto the steel steps. Cena climbs to the top rope but Lesnar barely rolls off the steps and out of the way as Cena comes down with a leg drop. Cena rolls to the floor somewhere. Lesnar gets up and can’t figure out where Cena is. Lesnar stands back up on the steps and waits for Cena to come back for more. Lesnar taunts Cena. Cena has trouble getting back in the ring but makes it. Lesnar runs the ropes, leaps over the steps and knocks Cena off the apron with a huge body shot. Lesnar flies over the top rope also and lands on his knee. Lesnar rolls around holding his knee but stands up and laughs. Lesnar gets back in the ring and poses as the crowd boos.

They do the same sequence but this time Cena stops Lesnar in mid-air with a big right hand. Cena is pumped now and waits for Lesnar to get up. Lesnar is now busted open. A bloody Cena waits for Lesnar to get up and hits the Attitude Adjustment on top of the steps. Cena covers for the pin and the win.

Winner: John Cena

– After the match, trainers come out to check on Cena. Lesnar stumbles to his feet at ringside but looks like he wants to fight. Lesnar refuses medical attention but falls down at ringside. Cena is checked on in the ring but sits up on his own as we go to replays from the match. We come back and Cena stands on the steps in the ring and raises his hand high. Cena wipes some of the blood from his face and goes to the turnbuckles to pose. Cena asks for a mic and sits down in the ring. Cena’s mouth is busted open and he can barely talk. He says he will probably get sent home for speaking when he shouldn’t. He says he knows his boss will fire him on TV. Cena says he knows this is CM Punk’s town but this is a wrestling town. He’s tasting his own blood and has no left arm but is glad it happened in Chicago. Cena says says they give it all for the fans and if he’s going away for a while, so be it.
