WWE NXT Results – August 17, 2016

Tonight is the final show before Takeover invades Brooklyn again. What will happen when Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura go face to face in an interview?

We are in Winter Park, Florida and your announcers are Tom Phillips and Corey Graves.

Match Number One: Hideo Itami versus Mustafa Ali

Itami with a waist lock into a side head lock. Ali with forearms but Itami with an Irish whip. Ali with a drop kick and kip up. Ali runs into a knee to the midsection and Itami with a running kick to the chest. Itami pulls down the knee pad but he jumps over Ali and then ‘kicks dirt’ onto Ali. Itami with an Irish whip and Ali floats over and goes to the floor when Itami charges into the corner. Ali wants a time out but Itami with a baseball slide. Ali with a swinging neck breaker when Itami comes back into the ring and Ali gets a near fall.

Ali with a kick from the apron followed by a neck breaker for a near fall. Ali taunts Itami and Itami with clotheslines and a dragon screw leg whip. Itami with a running boot into the corner followed by slaps and a back heel kick. Itami with a hesitation drop kick into the corner and then Itami with the flying knee and the three count.

Winner: Hideo Itami

Tom and Corey talk about the matches on Takeover and they mention the six woman tag match that will take place later in the show.

We are back with a Bobby Roode video package. He says it is time for him to make the move to NXT after wrestling for eighteen years. We hear Bobby’s previous promos at Full Sail and his comments to Andrade Almas.

Tom and Corey talk about the Women’s Title Match between Asuka and Bayley.

We see Asuka defeating Bayley to become the NXT Women’s title. Bayley says she felt like she let everyone down. Asuka had a counter for everything and she is on a different level. We see William Regal’s comments that kept Bayley from having her rematch. Asuka says she will fight anyone. She will beat anyone. She will destroy everyone. She says she is the champion. We see footage of Asuka’s matches.

We see Bayley’s return to NXT and she says she is ready for her rematch to get back her title. We see Asuka telling Bayley she does not have what it takes.

Carmella is in the back with Liv Morgan and Nikki Glenncross as they get ready for their match later tonight.

We are back and we have a musical look at some of the other matches at Takeover.

Johnny Gargano says New York is the epicenter of the world. Scott Dawson says you want to do your best in New York. Bobby Roode says New York is The city. Austin Aries says if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.

Aries says it will be more special for the fans because they will get to see what he does best.. No Way Jose says Austin Aries crossed the line. You know when the line has been crossed and you know when you have to change. Austin Aries says he has been doing this too long to have No Way Jose make an example of him.

Bobby Roode says he has been waiting for this opportunity and what better place than at Takeover in Brooklyn. Almas says he is going to be special. Roode says Takeover is his showcase and it will be GLORIOUS.

Scott Dawson says the Revival has revived the tag team division. Johnny Gargano says the Revival has never seen a team like him and Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa says they are going to deliver. Wilder says they have proven themselves and they will stay the tag team champions. Johnny says the tag titles are their goal.

Mandy Rose, Alexa Bliss, and Daria Berenato are in the back as we go to commercial.

We are back and William Regal mentions last year’s Takeover was a success. International talent has seen a lot of influx. Billie Kay comes into the office and she says it cannot be a great Takeover because she is not on the card. William Regal tells Billie she will be in action against Ember Moon.

Billie does not look as happy as she was when she entered the office.

Match Number Two: Daria Berenato, Alexa Bliss, and Mandy Rose versus Liv Morgan, Nikki Glenncross, and Carmella

Nikki and Bliss start things off. Alexa sends Nikki to the mat and Alexa taunts Nikki and slaps her. Nikki sends Bliss to the mat and she has something to say to Bliss. Nikki blocks a clothesline but Bliss with an Irish whip. Nikki floats over and hits a cross body for a near fall. Nikki with a drop kick and Alexa goes to the floor. Nikki tells her to get back into the ring. Daria is tagged in and she takes off her gloves.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Liv with a side head lock on Daria. Alexa tries to hit Liv but Liv bridges. Daria uses the distraction to hit a clothesline. Alexa tags in and she sends Liv to the mat and Alexa stomps on Liv’s back and drives her head into the mat. Alexa gets a near fall and sends Liv into the turnbuckles. Daria tags in and she kicks Liv. Mandy tags in and he punches Liv and snap mares Liv and kicks her in the back. Mandy with a cravate and a grapevine of the leg. Mandy with a rollup for a near fall and follows with a kick after knocking Carmella and Nikki off the apron.

Mandy gets a near fall. Daria tags back in and she connects with knees and a round kick to the upper chest and she gets a near fall. Daria with a body scissors. Liv leans back and gets a near fall. Daria with a chin lock while she has the body scissors applied. Liv tries to make the tag but Daria keeps her from making the tag and Daria pulls her to the mat. Alexa tags in and connects with a knee to the midsection but she misses an elbow drop. Liv with an enzuigiri and Carmella tags in and she clotheslines Mandy a few times.

Carmella knocks Daria and Alexa off the apron. Carmella with an atomic drop and she sends Mandy into the turnbuckles and hits a head scissors. Carmella with a thrust kick for a near fall. Nikki with a running cross arm cutter to Alexa. Daria with a Thesz Press on Nikki and they go to the floor. Mandy with a jackknife cover for a near fall but Carmella with Code of Silence and Mandy taps out.

Winners: Liv Morgan, Carmella, and Nikki Glenncross

William Regal tells security to be ready if anything happens. William warns Samoa Joe and then he asks Byron Saxton if he is ready.

We go to commercial.

We are back with an Ember Moon teaser.

Byron Saxton is with Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Byron asks Joe about Takeover. Joe says he is excited because he is main eventing as champion. Shinsuke says he is excited because it is his first main event and a chance to challenge the champion.

Byron asks Joe about the way this match happened. Joe says there was a lack of respect from William Regal. Joe says he had to jump through every hoop imaginable to earn a shot. He had to beat everyone in his way. He had to face Sami Zayn, a battle royal, and the Dusty Rhodes classic. Nakamura got his match after beating someone Joe beat twice. Even Bayley was given a match after asking Asuka. Regal did not ask him. He wonders if Regal wants him to be champion.

Nakamura is asked if he is not taking this serious enough. Nakamura says this is his style.

Byron asks if Joe crossed paths with Nakamura. Joe says Nakamura came to his dojo in LA to train. Nakamura questions if it was Joe’s dojo. Nakamura says he does not remember that. Joe tells Nakamura to keep smiling.

Joe is asked if he respects Nakamura. He respects what Nakamura has done, but not him.

Nakamura says he respects Joe and he stares at Joe.

Joe tells Nakamura he will have to respect him and then Joe says he is going to beat respect into Nakamura as security holds Joe back and Regal escorts Nakamura out of the room.
