PWMania.com reader Cliff Feyen sent in the following report:
It’s been a year since WWE Smackdown came to Belgium on their Europe Tour.
Vorst National was almost sold out for this event, with almost 8000 spectators at the venue.
The crowd was right into it from the start and the great atmosphere remained throughout the entire show.
First we welcomed Tony Chimel to announce all the Smackdown ‘Soooperstars’.
– First match was MVP vs Tyler Reks
MVP got a big pop from the crowd and Reks filled in his role as heel perfectly.
Good opening match, MVP beat Reks nearly kicking in his head.
– Drew McIntyre vs Finlay
Good old Finlay picked up the victory by hitting McIntyre with his shillelagh.
After the match Finlay pleased the crowd by wearing the Belgian flag over his shoulders.
– Intercontinental Championship Match
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs Kaval vs ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes vs Kofi Kingston
Kingston got the biggest pop of the crowd.
Ziggler and Rhodes heated up the whole thing by stomping on a Kofi Kingston sign some of the fans made.
Entertaining match with some action outside of the ring.
Eventually Rhodes hit his Cross Rhodes on Kaval, followed by Trouble in Paradise knocking out The Dashing One.
Ziggler finished it all off with a Zig Zag on Kofi, retaining his title.
After the match Kofi and Kaval signed autographs and spent some time with the fans.
– Next was the Divas match, which proved to be a lot more entertaining than I hoped for.
It was Natalya facing off with Divas Champion Layla, with Kelly Kelly as special guest referee.
Natalya won the bout with a Sharpshooter on Layla.
After the match Layla attacked Natalya, Kelly Kelly and Natalya knocked her out of the ring with a double clothesline.
– The fifth match was a Tag Team Match.
First team featured Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger accompanied by his eagle.
They had to deal with some big heat from the crowd.
To my big surprise they were facing the two most popular superstars of the evening : Edge and Rey Mysterio.
The place exploded as they entered.
The match itself was very entertaining and by far the best of the evening.
Edge speared Swagger after Mysterio hit him with a 619.
They did the very same thing to Swagger’s bird after the match.
Guess they flipped the bird again.
– After the break we had a 6-man tag team match including members of Nexus (David Otunga, Heath Slater, Husky Harris and Justin Gabriel at ringside).
They were facing off with The Hart Dynasty accompanied by Hall of Famer Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart.
The Hitman got a lot of respect and cheers, especially from the older fans in the crowd.
Needless to say everyone was shouting when Hitman made Slater submit with his Sharpshooter to end the match.
– Next match featured Chris Masters and Chavo Guerrero.
The crowd was divided, cheering for both Masters and Chavo.
When Chavo applied The Three Amigos on Masters, an ‘Eddie’-chant filled the arena.
Eventually Chavo had to submit when Masters put him in the Masterlock.
– The main event was for the World Heavyweight Championship between Kane (c) and The Big Show.
Big Show got a big pop from the crowd.
This match was a bit disappointing, as suspected it was a slow battle with a lot of hitting.
The referee got caught between Kane and the turnbuckle, after that Big Show knocked Kane out.
When Big Show went for the 3-count the referee recovered, when reached the two count The Nexus came out and attacked Big Show.
All the ‘heel’ superstars came out attacking Big Show as well, shortly after the ‘face’ superstars came to the rescue clearing the ring all but poor Otunga.
Otunga got a beatdown, with The Big Show knocking him out.
All in all a very entertaining evening, with a very good live event.
Some great matches and great action.
The superstars really took their time to hang out with the fans, signing autographs and taking pictures.
They really put on an amazing show.
Biggest pops : Rey Mysterio (younger fans), Edge (older fans), MVP, Hitman
Biggest heat: Tyler Reks, Jack Swagger, Alberto Del Rio
