WWE SmackDown Results – October 8, 2015

[Q1] Smackdown opened with Rich Brennan as he welcomed everyone to Philadelphia and hyped up the main event between Roman Reigns & Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt & Braun Strowman. Big E piped over the PA and signaled the New Day’s entrance. Video played of Big E and John Cena’s match from Raw, and the conclusion of The New Day standing strong. Kofi talked about Cena and The Dudleys not being able to stop the power of Positivity. Big E said it was the first time someone dominated like that on Raw for the first time since the inception of the earth.

They traded off talking about factions that couldn’t get it done (NWO, Los Boricuas, The Corre, etc) and then Xavier Woods ripped the Eagles for losing to the Redskins. Big E said that they had come up with chant to help their silly little team. E-A-G-L-E-S…..BOOOTY!. Kofi said that the Dudley’s had once again conned their way into a Tag Team Championship match at Hell in a Cell, but New Day was there to make the WWE great again and to defeat those foul table poaching Dudley’s. Dolph Ziggler then made his entrance as New Day began their regular chant.

Dolph called them the three stooges of the WWE. He said normally he would trade jokes with them and one up them without even trying, but tonight was no laughing matter. He said they cost him his Title match against his “good friend” John Cena. Dolph said he asked for a match against the man who he taught to steal opportunities, and pointed at Big E. Xavier Woods told him that it would be a fair fight as sarcastically as he could. Dolph said he was damn right, and the Dudley’s made their entrance to even the odds.

1. Big E vs. Dolph Ziggler: Big E got cleared to the outside early, and The Dudley’s jawed with Xavier and Kofi…[c]

[Q2] Big E controlled the pace after the break. He choked Ziggler using the bottom rope and then punted him in the ribs. Big E continued to use power with a backbreaker, as Xavier and Kofi talking continuous trash from the outside. Ziggler finally managed to turn things around after Big E missed a charge in the corner and went shoulder first into the post. He followed up with a Famouser for a near fall.

Big E hit a huge running splash for a near fall. He then went for a Big Ending, but Ziggler countered with a superkick for a near fall. Bubba and Kofi mixed it up on the outside, but Kofi caused Bubba to kick the steps and he went down. New Day used the numbers advantage so Big E could get a pin while Kofi held Ziggler’s legs under the ropes.

Big E defeated Dolph Ziggler at 9:35.

New Day celebrated as The Dudleys and Ziggler looked on frustrated. Follow up to Lesnar and Big Show was teased for next…[c]

Footage was shown of Brock Lesnar and Big Show’s confrontation from Raw, as well as a small bit of Paul Heyman’s promo hyping Hell in a Cell with the Undertaker. The announce team then threw to another video package that highlighted Summer Rae popping the question on Raw.

[Q3] Backstage, Summer Rae was speaking to some makeup people about the wedding when Rusev walked up. He lightly scolded her for jumping the gun with wedding planning, when they made a plan and had a rule. Summer said she got him a match with the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship Ryback later in the show. He slapped her on the ass and said good job. Team Bella made their entrance in the arena…[c]

Charlotte and peppy sidekick Becky Lynch made their entrance. Natalya joined them as their third. Team NBC?

2. Team Bella vs. Charlotte & Becky & Natalya: Becky started with Alicia Fox. Becky hit a few nice arm drags and tagged out to Charlotte. They hit a double team arm drag and Natalya quickly tagged in. She hit a double dropkick and covered for a two count. Nikki tagged in for her team and Natalya tagged out to Becky. Paige was shown backstage briefly as she looked at the match on the monitor. Team Bella took over with a top rope missile dropkick from Brie on Becky…[c]

Team Bella isolated Becky in their corner. Foxy hit a beautiful Northern Lights Suplex for a two count. She then hit a drop kick and covered for a two count. Brie tagged in and went back and forth with Becky. The both collided with a double clothesline and struggled to reach their corners. Brie got their first and Nikki got in the match quickly to prevent a tag. Nikki ran into a back elbow in the corner and got tossed into the second turnbuckle.

[Q4] Charlotte got a hot tag and hit some chops and a big boot. Nikki fired back with a big kick and then knocked Natalya off the apron. She went for the Rack Attack, but Charlotte slipped out and hit a spear. She then applied a Figure Four, but Brie broke it up and Nikki turned her over. While Natalya distracted the ref by attacking Brie on the outside, Becky turned them back over and Charlotte bridged into a Figure Eight for the win.

Team NBC defeated Team Bella at 13:48

The actually used Team NBC after the match when Renee Young asked Paige how she felt about what happened. She said she didn’t appreciate Natalya stealing her girls and that she didn’t like her at all. Maybe don’t be so shitty to your friends? Rusev made his entrance with Summer in the arena…[c]

Kevin Owens joined on commentary. Ryback then made his entrance. We got a picture in picture pormo with Ryback doing his best job to emulate the Ultimate Warrior’s intensity circa 1987.

3. Ryback vs. Rusev: Ryback rained punches down on Rusev to start the match. Rusev fired back with right hands, but ran right into a Thesz Press and more punches after he hit the ropes. Rusev tossed Ryback into the ropes and hit a back elbow that sent Ryback to ringside. His arm got twisted up in the ropes and became the focus of Rusev’s attacks. He tossed his arm into the steps and the announce table as Owens complimented his gameplan.

[Q5] Rusev tossed Ryback into the ring post and continued to focus on his left arm and shoulder. Ryback apparently decided his left arm didn’t hurt so much because he hit a belly to belly suplex and three shoulder tackles that used his left arm. He then hit a big powerslam for a near fall. He then went for a powerbomb, but Rusev picked him up and hit an Alabama Slam for a near fall. Owens kept talking up the Intercontinental Championship on commentary, and made more insightful observations than the other commentators.

Ryback powered out of a headlock and turned it into a backpack stunner for a near fall. He tried to lift him up for Shellshock and hit a superkick for a close near fall. Summer knocked Ryback’s foot off the ropes and he still managed to kick out at 2.9. Ryback then got up and hit a meathook followed by Shellshock for the win.

Ryback defeated Rusev at 8:39.

Ryback talked trash at Owens, who held up the Intercontinental Championship and smirked at him. The announce team plugged the main event for later and a Kane & Rollins video package for next…[c]

[Q6] We got a long video package from Monday’s Raw that recapped Kane and Seth Rollins ongoing saga. After the video package, they ran through the currently announced Hell in a Cell card. Bray Wyatt cut a promo backstage. Bray questioned whether he would be locked inside with him, or whether Roman is trapped inside with him. He said tonight, however, Reigns and Orton would face his judgement, and the wrath of the black sheep. Strowman said he used to squeeze little rabbits in his hands, and help them cross over. Run little rabbits, run…[c]

King Barrett made his entrance and we got a video package that reintroduced the King Barrett character. I admire the effort, but this is like the 10th time we’ve seen Barrett get repacked and nothing ever changes. Neville made his entrance to a nice reaction.

4. Wade Barrett vs. Neville: After some back and forth with some Neville acrobatics, Barrett took control with a big boot…[c]

[Q7] Barrett caught Neville with a kick to the chest in the corner and then draped him over the ropes to club his back. Barrett taunted the crowd. and hit a big running punt to the ribs for a near fall. Both men ended up on the outside and Neville hit an Asai Moonsault from the ropes to the floor in a nice spectacle. He followed up in the ring with a nice german suplex for a near fall. Barrett tried for Wasteland and Neville slipped out and rolled him up for a two count.

He tried for it again, and Neville hit a DDT. Neville climbed up for the Red Arrow, but Barrett rolled out of range. Neville pursued him, but Barrett tied himself up in the ropes and the ref backed Neville up. Neville charged right into the Bull Hammer and Barrett pinned him for the win.

King Barrett defeated Neville at 8:29.

Backstage, Stardust was doing a card trick. He mentioned the Emerald Archer or the man gravity supposedly forgot. He spoke in riddles and answered his own questions by pulling cards from the deck. He seems to be playing a character very similar to DC Comics Trickster, except not quite as homicidal.

Randy Orton made his entrance for the main event, followed by Roman Reigns. Reigns got a PIP promo about tonight being a taste of what was to come at Hell in a Cell. The Wyatt’s then made their entrance…[c]

[Q5] 5. Bray Wyatt & Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns & Randy Orton: Bray and Orton started the match. Orton hit a clothesline early, but failed to tag out to Reigns like he hoped. Orton went for his rope elevated DDT, but Wyatt escaped and tagged out to Strowman. Braun hit a shoulder block and gave an intimidating scream. Orton tagged to Reigns, who struggled but couldn’t get Strowman off his feet. Orton got a blind tag, and they tried to double team Strowman, but still couldn’t knock him down.

Strowman hit a big boot on Orton, and then backed him into the heel corner. Wyatt tagged in and beat on Orton with punches and kicks. He then hit a kick to the head and covered for a two count. Orton avoided a Wyatt clothesline and hit an inverted backbreaker. Both men tagged and Reigns struggled to gain an advantage on Strowman. At one point Reigns nearly lifted him up for a Samoan Drop, but he elbowed out.

Strowman end up on the apron and Reigns teed off on him. He eventually hit a Superman Punch, but Strowman landed on his feet on the outside. Reigns then went after Wyatt and ended up tossing him into the timekeeper’s area. Reigns went back to Strowman briefly, but when he turned around Wyatt worked him over with a chair for the DQ.

Roman Reigns & Randy Orton defeated The Wyatt Family by DQ.

After the match, Wyatt tossed Reigns back in the ring. Orton made the save, but Strowman attempted to choke him out. Reigns hit a Superman Punch on Wyatt and dumped Strowman back out to the floor. Reigns then hit a spear on Wyatt and the babyfaces celebrated as The Wyatt’s retreated up the ramp.
