WWE World Title Decision To Be Made On WWE Raw, Original Sin Cara Seeking New Name

- Word is that the official on-screen decision about the WWE World Heavyweight Title will be made on this Monday’s Memorial Day RAW from Knoxville, TN. There was some speculation that they might carry the angle out over a few weeks.

- After the original Sin Cara returned to Mexico and said for months that he had the right to legally use that name, he’s now saying that he thinks he should have a new name to help break free from his past characters.

Please strip Daniel Bryan! He needs a way out of this feud with Kane (seriously, who gives a SHIT about Kane!?) and he can come back and chase the title again.

    • Necro

The character Kane has been lacking as of late, but when he wrestles he puts on a hell of a match.

      • jmull

They killed any believability/scary/monster/cool factor with Team Hell No and Corporate Kane. These angles were fine, but how are they gonna just bring out 2000s Kane without any explanation?! His matches are decent, but they don’t give me a reason to give a single fuck. Storylines like this are the reason I DVR the show so I can fast fucking forward through the dumb shit.

        • Necro

I mean at this point if you’re watching WWE for storylines, you’re doing it wrong, but that’s just me.

          • jmull

At the end of the day it is entertainment. I appreciate a great match, but the best matches tell a story, and they can only do that with an effective storyline. Why do you watch?

          • Necro

I mostly watch it for the show as a whole, including storylines, but that”s because I rarely criticize it and it’s something I’ve been watching for over 10 years and can’t bring myself to actually talk bad about storylines. About what they do to wrestlers I could go days on what they could do, on storylines, not so much.

          • jmull

But isn’t the “show as a whole” a product of the overall storylines? And isn’t “what they do to wrestlers” directly tied to what storylines they do or don’t book them in? I’ve watched on and off for 15 years, and I just know they can do so much better than what they’re crrently putting out. Vince is distracted.

          • Necro

I guess, but I mean obviously there’s going to be some bad storylines, but at the end of the day if I see good matches and Paige, then I finish watching Raw happy as can be. I do see why people continuously get upset and want to stop watching though, I guess it just hasn’t hit me yet.

  • Bryan

Everyone will continue to turn on daniel bryan.

    • jmull

I’m a fan of his, but he needs to be handled correctly. Letting him hold the title for months while inactive will only cool him off. Stripping him, however, and having him return in a big spot to challenge for the belt is the way to go. Imagine if they put the belt on Batista in the interim, and then DB gets to come back and challenge. That would be far more entertaining, right?

      • Dave Macleod

Agreed, otherwise, he’ll have absolutely no momentum in his return. Though giving it to Batista is dangerous, only because of the current Evolution reunion, and all three men wanting the belt could lead to a cheap implosion storyline, not to mention that if he did have the strap, he’d have to lose it before he takes time off to promote Guardians of the Galaxy, which is inevitable. This could be a chance to put the belt on someone new to push them to the top while the roster is short a top card performer like DB, though someone we could risk losing later. Kind of like Jack Swagger’s flash in the pan WHC run.

        • jmull

Good point about Batista and Evolution. Speaking of Evolution, they really need Flair to seem legit to me. I don’t think this is a time for experimenting or any flash in the pan title runs. Maybe they should put the belt on HHH and the tag titles on Orton and Batista. Then HHH can feud with Reigns and the rest can fued over the tag titles. The shield get championship match exposure and this whole fued get the meaningful facelift that it needs. When Bryan returns to feud with HHH, he will have all the momentum he needs.

          • Bryan

But this whole feud is for roman and to out him over. So it’s makes no sense to put the title around HHH

          • jmull

This feud is because the Orton/Batista feud over the title that was planned after Batista won the belt at WM30 obviously had to be changed. Obviously they see Reigns as a main eventer so he will be featured. Even still, what better way to get him over than give him some high profile matches against HHH for the belt? Isn’t that more effective than Reigns pinning HHH in a six man tag?

          • Bryan

Roman is going to pin HHH at Summerslam though.

          • jmull

Perhaps. If this is the plan, then it would make perfect sense to put the belt on HHH, have Roman challenge for it and lose, have Bryan come back and challenge HHH and win (with Roman and the Shield fending off Orton and Batista). Then HHH and Roman could go at SS. But all this depends on Bryan’s timeline. But they’ve got to do something credible with the title while Bryan is out.

    • Clay Keithstone Merritt

Yup. It’s always like that with a good portion of the IWC. They beg and cry for somebody to get pushed and/or win the WWE World Title and then when it happens within the first month the say he’s stale or boring to watch when the character stays the same. Makes no sense. Punk is the biggest example.

      • Bryan

And the same people on this roman reigns bandwagon will do the same. It’s almost like 04 all over again. Everyone was behind cena, and a year later he started getting mixed reactions.

      • jmull

The problem is how a wrestler gets over. Unless the wrestler is entertaining on his own (Rock, Stone Cold, Flair) they have to be booked well. Bryan and Punk are perfect examples of lazy booking and storytelling by WWE after a star got “over.” They are both ant-establishment characters, but once they triumphed, the bookers didn’t know what to do with them and neither did the fans.

  • Laurence

They need to put the US Title on Rusev. The heat would be huge having Mother Russia walking around with the US Title. Who cares if he can wrestle, WWE are missing their chance right now.

    • jmull

The modern wrestling fan doesn’t hate Russia; most modern fans don’t remember the Cold War or even know that it wasn’t an actual war. Nobody gives a single fuck about Russia, and that’s why Rusev’s heat won’t go past what anyone else gets when they insult the local crows or wave another country’s flag. The ceiling is low. The only good thing about the way he is being handled is Lana.

      • Necro

Which is not the way a heel is supposed to be a heel…..lol

        • jmull

I get the tactic, my point is that it won’t get the kind of heat it used to.

      • Laurence

I think they chose Russia because of what is CURRENTLY happening over there (black people and gay people being given different rights to straight white russians, the invasion of ukraine, the fact that Prince Charles called Putin a Hitler) as opposed to the Cold War of many many moons ago. I know WWE is behind the times (as seen in Cena’s weird Wolf of Wall Street chest beating parody which was 6months too late) but I think they’ve chosen the right country for Rusev here. And putting a US title on a foreign heel always garners heat.
I’m surprised you don’t know what’s going on in Russia at the moment? I’m in England by the way so I just assume Americans know what is going on and I assumed Rusev was linked to Russia because of the current climate.
I also assumed that was why Rusev was picking primarily on minorities in WWE (Langston, Kingston, Xavier Woods, R Truth) to reflect the Russian situation.

        • jmull

I am aware of the current situation, but I watch the news (something most Americans — and certainly most wrestling fans don’t do). But they are using the present situation to try to revive an endemic hate of Russia that has long faded. Everyone knows Russia is still a political enemy, but the hate they assume is there is not there — that is my real point. And I really don’t think him picking on minorities is to reflect the treatment of certain groups — that would be a bad look for WWE in America’s super sesitive, politically correct climate.

    • Bryan

      So you think can’t wrestle?

      • Laurence

I think he would struggle to hold down a 15minute PPV match. So far he kicks, he scoops an opponent near the ropes and does knees, he scoops for the swinging slam and then does the camel clutch. I don’t see 15minute PPV matches in there when his thing is to not sell. Once he sells big his character dies.

        • Bryan

You’re right. I wanna see guys that can go in the ring. And i mean go for about half an hour. I don’t care about size because now days the smaller guys are better. Which is sad. Only big guys i like on the roster is luke harper, bray wyatt and cesaro. Sheamus is not bad either.

        • jmull

This is the moves set in a squash match though. He’s not supposed to have to work hard or do a lot. He looks like a legit athlete for his size so I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised how good his matches are as he gets better opponents.

          • Laurence

For him to go 15minutes he would have to sell, come off his feet and show weakness which would destroy his character. The moment a big man sells after/during a monster push it’s over. See Ryback, Umaga and others. I’m sure he’s a legit athlete but the push he is having has never worked for any wrestler long term. They get built up, fed to someone and then try to stay in mid card hiatus for as long as possible before becoming a random tag team member where they try and stay in that position because the next step down is a comedy skit with Santino. And then it’s bye bye.
However, beasts who do sell from the beginning (Sheamus, Batista, Lesnar and even Reigns) are able to develop to 15minute matches because their characters aren’t one dimensional.

          • jmull

Good points. That only applies though if we have already seen all he can do. If he can actually work, he’ll be able to stay relevant even once he has to start selling. Ryback and Umaga simply suck in the ring because all they can do is power moves, and their characters are boring and one dimentional. Rusev may go this way, but I think he’ll be one of the more athletic big men that can actually have a good match. It has everything to do with WHO he is feuding with, and how well he can really work. But I do agree with you that this type of build up is tired.
