3 Women Most Likely to Win the 6-Pack Challenge at Backlash

The first WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion will be crowned this Sunday at the first Blue Brand exclusive PPV- Backlash.  It’s a match, designed to show off the entire SmackDown Women’s Division in full glory. However, there can be only one champion. Who will that be? Here are the top 3 contenders for the gold!

  1. Becky Lynch: The One Who Should Win

Becoming the first ever winner of any championship is a huge honour. When we talk about the person, who deserves that honour the most, there can be no doubt – it’s Becky Lynch.

The Lass Kicker is the most lovable female character on the SmackDown roster. The fans adore her and the WWE know that. The pop she gets when her music hits and the cheers, roaring throughout the arena every time she wrestles can’t be ignored. That’s the reason why on the last SmackDown before Backlash, Becky was the only face, who was given mic time in the opening segment.

Lynch hasn’t had the right treatment up to now. On NXT, she never got to hold the NXT Women’s Championship because Sasha and Bayley were picked over her. Then, on the main roster, she was sacrificed many times – first for Paige and then for Charlotte. She didn’t get to hold the WWE Women’s Championship either. The brand split is Becky’s chance to finally get to the top. After everything that she’s been through, she deserves to get the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

The question is whether at Backlash the WWE will go with the choice the fans want, or with the one who has been their chosen one for a long time – Nikki Bella.

  1. Nikki Bella: The One Who Shouldn’t Win but Could Very Well Do

When Nikki returned from her injury, the WWE made her the centre of attention. Much to my surprise, Nikki returned as a face and that was a huge mistake. Sometimes, an injury can make the fans love a certain superstar to the point where they want that superstar to be a good guy. A fresh example of that is Seth Rollins. However, that wasn’t the case with Nikki. Neither one of the Bellas could ever be a face. The only role the twins could ever perform was that of a heel. Nikki is too much of a real life dive for the fans to take her as a face.

However, it can’t be denied that the Fearless Bella brand sells. The Bellas were the top female seller for merchandise in the WWE. This comes to tell us that the Bella Army is a profitable target audience. And it’s no secret that Nikki has a lot of haters, too. Especially in the New Era, where Nikki is the only stereotypical diva left, she definitely is going to get a lot of criticism. However, all of that for the WWE spells money and that makes Nikki a great choice of a champion for the company. She already even has a feud to fight.

Then again, I firmly believe that Nikki should not be given the victory at Backlash. The WWE are parading with their New Era; supposedly, giving chances to both the newcomers and to those, who haven’t been given any until now. What message would it send if the first WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion ends up being the ultimate diva – Nikki Bella?

  1. Carmella: The One Who Could Surprise Everyone

The person, who put Nikki Bella back in the spotlight, is Carmella. The heel turn came out of nowhere but the role does fit her. Some people don’t look natural as heels. For example, Naomi always struggled with being a baddie. Carmella isn’t one of them. She jumped Nikki viciously and the ferocity with which she celebrated causing her opponent pain made her stand out.

Nikki could end up, being a diversion for the moment. Maybe the one who’s actually being built up for success is Carmella. Having in mind how new she is, it would be in the tone of the New Era to give her a shot at a title reign. Then again, it’s guaranteed that with the Princess of Staten Island, being a newcomer and a heel, picking her to become the first ever WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion would infuriate quite a lot of people. That, however, is a great thing. After all, what better way to turn the crowd against a superstar and make her the top heel of the division?

Carmella’s reign would be unexpected and would get a lot of attention. Without Enzo, she’s slightly annoying on the mic but she has a lot of character and she has improved a lot in the ring, so her reign could potentially be good. Also, in a long-term plan, Carmella’s feud with the returning Bella, could be a much smoother way to insert Nikki into a champion role. Beating Carmella would permit Nikki to attempt, being a face champion, while beating Becky at Backlash would only turn the fans against her.
