Jim Ross Speaks Out About Sting’s Upcoming Retirement

WWE Hall of Famer and AEW commentator Jim Ross recently spoke on his podcast, โ€œGrilling JR,โ€ about a variety of professional wrestling topics including Sting announcing his upcoming retirement:

โ€œ(It should be) on a Pay-per-view of some sort. I think a Pay-per-view is apropos to celebrate his career. It will be fun to see how that works out and how the promotion evolves, so it will be interesting to see going forward whatโ€™s up for everybody. Sting has had an amazing career and the fact that theyโ€™re planning his exit this far out is good planning in my view, so weโ€™ll see how it evolves. Weโ€™re still a little bit away from that, but Iโ€™m anxious to go along on that ride.

If he has a dream opponent in mind for Sting’s final match:

โ€œThereโ€™s a lot of guys that would love to have that last match with Sting. There would be a lot of guys that would stand in that line to celebrate his career and his last match. It would be hard to say who it would be, but somebodyโ€™s going to be very blessed to have that opportunity to appear on that show against Sting. I would say itโ€™s quite an honor to be selected for that position and I canโ€™t wait to see how that all pans out and how we end this amazing career.โ€

โ€œI was very shocked he signed with AEW, and happily shocked. It was a great deal. Weโ€™ll see how it all works out, but the nice thing is we have plenty of time to plan for it and I think thatโ€™s important. For a guy like Sting, he needs all the celebration that you can muster, so weโ€™ll see how it ends up, but Iโ€™m happy and excited that heโ€™s finally decided that this is going to be enough. Heโ€™s there much longer than I anticipated him being there on this last run. Heโ€™ll be missed, but heโ€™s going to be so appreciated as we move forward. Iโ€™m a big Sting fan and hopefully, heโ€™ll have a celebration fitting his career. Iโ€™m sure he will.โ€
