AEW star and pro wrestling veteran Shelton Benjamin recently spoke with Maven on his YouTube channel about various topics. One of the highlights of their discussion was Benjamin’s experience with Vince McMahon, who had asked him to incorporate his real mother into a WWE storyline in 2006. Shelton explained why he ultimately decided to turn down that idea.
Benjamin said, โVince actually asked me, โDo you want to use your real mama for this?โ My response, โHell no.โ I donโt want to be on the road with my mom, but more importantly, you know how our locker room was at the time, how certain individuals were, and Iโll even throw Randyโs name in there because he was one of the ones I would worry about.โ
On how โOld Randyโ was a problem:
โOld Randy [Orton] was a problem. Him and other people as well. But if I brought my real mom onto here, and anyone said anything out of line to my mama, my real mother? Iโd be fired, and someone would be wellโฆ Thatโs scorched Earth. You donโt mess with my mama.โ
On what his mom thought about the storyline:
โOh, my mom loved it. She was people were going around town like they were calling her, โMama Benjamin,โ she was loving it. They actually met. We did a show in South Carolina, and my TV mom met my real mom.โ
