AEW star and professional wrestling veteran Kota Ibushi has been recovering from a broken femur sustained during a match on an episode of Collision in October 2025. He underwent surgery for this injury and had a follow-up procedure in February to address a loose screw.

Recently, Ibushi shared on Instagram that he needs to have another surgery next month. He explained that the plates inserted during his previous surgeries are too weak to facilitate proper healing.

During the surgery scheduled for September 17, these plates will be replaced with thicker ones. In his post, Ibushi expressed his hope that this will be the last major surgery of his life and wished for a time when he would no longer need to take painkillers.

Ibushi wrote, “It’s official‼️‼️ Well, I guess that’s just how it is… but I want this to be the last major surgery of my life. Apparently, the plate I had put in in the U.S. was too weak to heal properly (only now⁉️), so I’m scheduled for surgery on September 17 to replace it with a sturdier, thicker one. I’m told I basically won’t be able to play contact sports, but maybe I’ll be able to make a comeback? Well, either way. 🙆‍♂️ I hope the day comes when I don’t have to take strong painkillers anymore 😊.”
