Pro wrestling veteran Claudio Castagnoli has been under a dual contract with both AEW and CMLL since March. According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, people backstage in CMLL have been very impressed with Castagnoli’s performance, especially in high-altitude matches.
Meltzer noted that Castagnoli “would fly in and compete in these singles matches without getting tired.” He also mentioned that many American wrestlers struggle at Arena Mexico, which sits at nearly 7,500 feet above sea level, while CMLL talents are accustomed to wrestling in that environment.
Castagnoli won the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in November of last year and held it for 118 days before losing it on March 20 to Hechicero. Most recently, he competed in the CMLL International Grand Prix, where he participated in a match lasting nearly 74 minutes.
