Adam Cole Speaks To The Miami Herald On Final Battle, ROH’s Growth, Its Position In Wrestling & More

Former ROH World Champion Adam Cole spoke to Scott Fishman of The Miami Herald before this Sunday’s Final Battle pay-per-view which takes place live from Terminal 5 in New York City. Cole speaks on topics such as ROH’s growth, his feud with Jay Briscoe, what it means to be ROH World Champion, his passion for the ROH product and more.

Here are some of the highlights from the interview.

On ROH’s growth and his responsibilities: “Ring of Honor had never been in this position before where so many eyes have been on the product. We are continuing to grow with more television markets and are on pay-per-view. For me, it’s a constant learning experience as well because not only it’s new for the company, but new for me. I really enjoy helping get the word out because I’m really passionate about Ring of Honor and really believe in what our company represents and stands for.”

What it means to be ROH World Champion: “When you look back at the former Ring of Honor world champions, whether it be Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuiness, the list goes on and on. These are the guys that built the lineage and importance of the Ring of Honor World Championship. So being in that position makes it very difficult. At the same time, there is no better way for you to grow as a performer than to be thrown to the wolves and lions…It was a really cool experience for me. It’s something that I definitely cherish.”

What it’s like to work for ROH right now: “I think Ring of Honor is becoming a legitimate threat in the world of pro wrestling. To say that Ring of Honor would be WWE is getting a little bit ahead of yourself. At the same time, I think Ring of Honor can definitely be a place where guys can make a living. The action figure line, the pay-per-views. It’s a really an exciting time to be in ROH. For me to be at the forefront of that is really cool. My total focus and drive right now is on Ring of Honor…”

On his ‘Fight Without Honor’ match with Jay Briscoe: “The feud has been going on for 18 months. I’ve had some of the most physical battles in all of pro wrestling with Jay Briscoe. I can promise you it will not get any more physical than ‘Fight without Honor’ in New York City live on pay-per-view. This is the culmination of 18 months of fueled hatred between the two of us. Obviously, the most important title in my eyes will be on the line in the Ring of Honor world championship. Ring of Honor is ready to bring out the big guns because it’s live on pay-per-view. Final Battle is our WrestleMania. This is going to be one of those brutal matches for the ages. That’s for sure.”
