AEW Dynamite Review – June 14, 2023

Non Title Match
AEW World Champion MJF vs. Adam Cole

If Cole wins he gets a AEW World Title Match.

MJF hits an early leapfrog and then points at his head then he turns around Adam Cole was set up for a superkick which caused MJF to fall to the mat and rolls outside the ring.

MJF teased leaving through the crowd then he steals popcorn from a fan and tosses it then argued with another fan and knocks his hat off once MJF returns to the ring he was serenaded with asshole chants. MJF tosses Cole into the corner then went to the middle rope and mugs for the crowd.

MJF drops down and jaws at Cole but he grabs him and pulls him into the turnbuckle pad. Cole stood over MJF in the corner and threw 10 punches at him then Cole sent MJF to ringside. Cole went for a baseball slide but MJF pulls the apron skirting out and traps Cole inside then MJF slams Cole’s left hand on the ring steps. MJF stood on the same hand and stomps on it.

MJF continued to target Cole’s left arm then MJF hits a pumphandle cradle slam and got a two count. MJF went to the corner and tunes up the band. MJF walked into a superkick from Cole. MJF came up bleeding from the mouth.

MJF went to the corner of the ring and slid his hand under the apron skirt for a moment. Cole threw an enzuigiri kick and follows up with a backstabber for a near fall.

Cole went to the ropes and went for Panama Sunrise but MJF caught him and places him on the apron. MJF wrenched the arm of Cole over the top rope. Cole stuffed an MJF move but then MJF avoids The Boom before Cole nails a ushigoroshi for a near fall.

Cole connects with an another ushigoroshi and immediately clutched his knee while lying over MJF to get a two count. MJF rolls to the apron then Cole followed and went for a straightjacket suplex but MJF counters into a Tombstone Piledriver position. Cole threw knees to MJF’s head to escape.

Cole went to the ropes, but MJF cut him off and nails a Tombstone Piledriver on the apron then both men rolls to the floor with MJF selling knee pain as the show cut to a picture in picture break.

After the picture in picture break MJF stood over Cole and calls him a nobody then MJF spat on Cole then he stood up and hits him with a forearm. MJF & Cole traded strikes in the middle of the ring before Cole fakes a superkick and then hits MJF with 2 kicks before hitting him with a superkick then Cole ran the ropes and gets hit with a lariat clothesline.

Cole locks MJF in a crossface but MJF rolls him into a pin for a two count then locks in Salt Of The Earth but Cole rolls out of the hold and then locks in an ankle lock but MJF reaches for the ropes but Cole pulls him back to the middle of the ring. MJF rolls out of it and locks in Ring Of Saturn before Cole reaches the bottom rope with his foot.

MJF caught Cole on the apron and connects with Heat Seeker for a near fall. MJF rolls to the floor and clears the timekeepers table then MJF places Cole on top of the table and then returned to the ring and removed the inner turnbuckle pad then MJF hits an elbow drop from the top rope that drove Cole through the table.

MJF returns to the ring and the referee counted. Cole beat the count by returning to the ring at 9. MJF flashed a look of disbelief. Cole caught MJF a kick on the apron and then hits him with Florida Keys.

Back inside the ring Cole set up for Panama Sunrise but MJF fell to the mat and rolls away. MJF caught Cole with a kick and then targets his elbow with a move from the middle rope. MJF and the referee took turns shoving one another. Cole rolls up MJF but kicks out & cause Cole to run into the referee.

MJF smiles and heads to ringside where he grabs the AEW World Title. MJF brought the AEW World Title back inside the ring and tossed it to Cole but he caught it so MJF flips off Cole and then fell to his back but the referee stays down. Cole hit MJF with the AEW World Title and then hits The Boom then Cole covered MJF as the ref recovers and made a slow count but MJF kicks out at 2.

Cole sets up for The Boom but MJF fell face first to the mat before Cole could hit him. Cole approached MJF from behind. MJF grabs the referee and while kicking Cole in the privates. MJF put the Dynamite Diamond Ring on his finger.

MJF tried to hit Cole with it but the referee stops him. Cole superkicks MJF and then hit him with the Panama Sunrise. Cole hits The Boom then goes for the pin but the bell sounds as we go the time limit draw.

Winner: No One (Time Limit Draw) (30:00) (Recommend)

After the match Cole rolls to the floor and grabs a mic that he brought back to the ring with him. 5 more minutes Cole said before tossing the mic to MJF as he was clutching his AEW World Title. MJF went face 2 face with Cole while both men were on their knees and then rolls out of the ring.

A CM Punk video aired. Punk said the only thing certain about him now is that nothing is certain. He said he’s coming back to AEW for the same reasons he came in the first place. He said he has scores to settle and there are still things left to do. Punk said he won’t know what he’s going to do or say until he has the microphone in his hand. Punk said he has a lot of things to get off his chest on Collision.

Renee Paquette stood in the ring and introduced Sammy Guevara & he spoke about experiencing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Guevara said he and his wife Tay Melo are having a girl. He said the low was coming close to the AEW World Title and coming up short. Guevara said he would have his wife by his side, his baby in one arm, and the AEW World Title in the other. Guevara said he has to make some changes before that can happen.

Darby Allin made his entrance and enters the ring. Allin congratulated Guevara on the baby news and said he meant it. Allin said it sounded like the people were staring to love Guevara again. Allin asks Guevara if he would stand on his own or continue to live in the shadows as part of Jericho Appreciation Society.

Chris Jericho walks out holding his baseball bat. Jericho barks at Allin and then took issue with Guevara not calling him once during the month leading up to the 4 Pillars match for the AEW World Title. Jericho said Guevara would be AEW World Champion had he asked for his help.

Guevara said he wondered why Jericho didn’t call him and said maybe he wouldn’t have lost to Adam Cole twice. Jericho assumed Guevara was having delusions of grandeur and said he would give him a chance to apologize to him. I’m not apologizing for sh*t Guevara said. Jericho said Guevara needs to remember the dynamic in Jericho Appreciation Society and reunite their tag team. Jericho said Guevara needs to remember who the boss really is.

Allin stepped up and told Jericho that when he steps in the ring, the magic is gone. Jericho asked if Allin really wanted this and then said that maybe he and Guevara should beat his ass 2 on 1. I’m not really alone Allin told Jericho.

Sting made his entrance carrying his own bat. Once in the ring, Sting went face 2 face with Jericho & he put his bat up to Sting’s throat. Sting lowers Jericho’s bat with 1 hand and put his own bat at Jericho’s throat with the other. Jericho yanks his bat away. Jericho backs up and pointed at Sting with his bat. Sting took a swipe at Jericho bat with his own bat and then Jericho exits the ring.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Sanada was featured in a video & he said he would hold an open challenge for his IWGP World Heavyweight Title at Forbidden Door and he looks forward to seeing who steps up. See you next time Sanada said.

8 Man Tag Team Match
International Champion Orange Cassidy, Darby Allin, Sting & Keith Lee vs. Mogul Embassy (Swerve Strickland, Brian Cage, Kaun & Toa Liona) 

Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy hits suicide dives onto Mogul Embassy at ringside to start the match then they cut to an early PIP break.

After the break Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland ends up in the ring together then Lee places Strickland on the ropes but he was cut off by The Embassy as Brian Cage, Toa Liona & Kaun held up Lee. Strickland flips off Lee and then double stomps him.

They did a series of rapid fire spots that concluded with Sting hits an inverted atomic drop and Kaun before punching him. Liona roughs up Sting before Lee dumps Gates Of Agony to ringside then Strickland kicks Lee then slams Lee to the mat. Allin hits Coffin Drop onto Gates Of Agony on the floor.

Sting puts Cage down with a clothesline and then sets up for Scorpion Death Drop but Cage hoisted up Sting on his shoulders looking to hit F5 but Cassidy nails Cage with an Orange Punch. Sting follows up with Scorpion Death Drop to get the win.

Winners: International Champion Orange Cassidy, Darby Allin, Sting & Keith Lee

Highlights aired of The Gunns helping Jay White beat Ricky Starks. Excalibur said they’d received no clarification regarding The Gunns’ status with Bullet Club Gold.

Backstage The Gunns were interviewed and plays dumb when Renee Paquette asked about their relationship with Bullet Club Gold. They said they are the best brother team in AEW before they challenge The Hardys for next week in Chicago.

TNT Champion Wardlow made his entrance and was jump from behind by Jake Hager. Arn Anderson walks out while Hager continued to attack Wardlow then threw him inside the ring.

TNT Title Match
Wardlow (c) vs. Jake Hager

Wardlow dumps Hager to the floor and then clotheslined him heading into a PIP break.

After the break Matt Menard & Angelo Parker came out before Arn Anderson simulated pulling a gun out of his jacket. Brock Anderson came out and hits Parker and then Arn punches Menard. The Andersons chase Menard & Parker to the back. Hager took advantage of the distraction but Wardlow rallies and nails Powerbomb Symphony to get the win.

Winner & Still TNT Champion: Wardlow (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)

After the match Christian Cage & Luchasaurus appeared on the big screen but the audio initially didn’t play in the arena or on television to start. Once they got the audio fixed, Cage announce that Luchasaurus was accepting Wardlow’s challenge for Saturday on Collision. Cage asked what Wardlow would do when his new daddy wasn’t there. The camera showed a bloody Arn seated next to Luchasaurus.

A Hiroshi Tanahashi video aired. Tanahashi said the AEW World Title won’t shine like it should while MJF has it. He recalls coming close to beating Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Title at the last Forbidden Door and then challenges MJF to face him for the AEW World Title at this year’s Forbidden Door.

Backstage, Paquette informed MJF that his match with Tanahashi was official for Forbidden Door. MJF mocks the idea of facing Tanahashi and then said it wouldn’t be the 1st time that he’s no show.

Backstage International Champion Orange Cassidy was interviewed by Paquette & she ask him about upcoming title matches. He said she knows how this works someone will walk onto the set and challenge him before Zack Sabre Jr. shows up and spoke about his desire to become a double champion.

Daniel Garcia shows up and asked Cassidy where his buddy Katsuyori Shibata is. Cassidy said Shibata wasn’t there this week but he would be next week. Cassidy challenges ZSJ & Garcia to face him & Shibata on next week’s show.

Women’s Title Match
Toni Storm (c) vs. Skye Blue

Skye Blue hits an crossbody from the ropes for a two count before Blue avoids a hip attack from Storm and then hits Storm with one of her own. Blue’s mother stood and did the L sign to The Outcasts. Storm sprays spray paint in Mama Blue’s face then Blue takes out The Outcasts with a suicide dive heading into a break.

After the break Blue connects with a headscissors takedown and then works over Storm with a knee and a kick. Blue charges Storm but she sends Blue to ringside. Storm went to the floor and hugs Ruby Soho before tossing Blue back inside the ring. Storm grabs the can of spray paint and walks past the referee then argues with Soho.

Blue pulls out a can of spray paint of her own and sprays Storm with it then Blue hits a Canadian Destroyer and had the pin but the referee was still caught up with Soho. Blue superkicks Soho off the apron. Storm took advantage of the distraction and hits Storm Zero then goes for the cover but Blue kicks out so Storm locks in a cloverleaf for the submission win.

Winner By Submission & Still Women’s Champion: Toni Storm (STILL CHAMPION!!!!!)

After the match The Outcasts attacks Blue but Willow Nightingale came out to make the save.

Backstage JungleHook were interviewed by Paquette. Perry said he was feeling rather naked standing next to Hook as we was holding the FTW Title. Perry said that’s why he was accepting Sanada’s open challenge for Forbidden Door. Perry told Hook that he’s his best friend and asks him to have his back at Forbidden Door. Hook bumped firsts with Perry.

Trios Match
Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta) vs. Hung Bucks (Hangman Page, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)

Hung Bucks were dominant to start this match off before Jon Moxley grounds Matt Jackson and works him over with punches heading into the final PIP break.

After the break Moxley tags out then Hung Bucks hits rapid fire moves then Moxley returns & takes them out before Yuta executed a German suplex into a bridge and got a two count on Matt.

Moxley tags in and ran Hangman Page into the ring steps. Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli hits a Doomsday Device on Matt for a near fall. Moxley threw rapid fire elbows to Nick Jackson’s head and then Castagnoli did the same to Page. Nick returns with a Swanton Bomb onto the back of Moxley.

Young Bucks threw double superkicks at Blackpool Combat Club then Page powerbombs Yuta Young Bucks hit a BTE Trigger on Yuta and then Page hits him with a Buckshot Lariat for the win.

Winners: Hung Bucks 

After the break Blackpool Combat Club attacks Hung Bucks then Eddie Kingston made his entrance and ends up clearing Castagnoli from the ring. Moxley & Kingston went face 2 face & before anything between them could happen, Matt hits Moxley from behind. Kingston stops Matt from kicking Moxley. Kingston & Moxley bicker.

Konosuke Takeshita came out and clears Young Bucks from the ring. Kenny Omega’s music played and he ran to the ring and squares off with Takeshita. Omega caught Takeshita with a V Trigger. Young Bucks returned to perform a double superkick on Takeshita. Omega puts Takeshita down with a snap dragon suplex. Young Bucks dove onto Blackpool Combat on the floor. Omega ran the ropes and hits Takeshita with a V Trigger.

As Omega was going for the Terminator Dive Will Ospreay appears in the ring and superkicks Omega. Ospreay stood over Omega and pointed at his own head then nails him with Hidden Blade then he picks up Omega and put him down with a Storm Breaker.

Bryan Danielson stood on the stage and applauded Ospreay as he sat on the top rope with his arms crossed while looking down at Omega. Don Callis also came out and applauded. before Ospreay drops off the ropes and then hit Omega with a Hidden Blade to close out this week’s Dynamite.
