AEW Rampage Review – March 25, 2023
TNT Title Match
Powerhouse Hobbs (c) vs. Pentagon Jr
Pentagon Jr had control early and dropkicks Powerhouse Hobbs to the outside on the outside, Hobbs works over Pentagon and slams him across the guardrail before taunting Pentagon with Pentagon’s symbol. Hobbs rolls Pentagon back into the ring and lands an elbow. Hobbs landed a backbreaker for a two count.
Hobbs chokes Pentagon over the 2nd rope with the ref distracted QT Marshall ties Pentagon’s mask to the bottom rope. Hobbs kept dominating, complete with a delayed vertical suplex and a two count then we go to a picture in picture.
After the break Pentagon lands a kick and a slingblade. Pentagon then hits a backstabber for a two count. Pentagon punches Hobbs but Hobbs came back with a body slam for a near fall. Hobbs lifts Pentagon but Pentagon works his way out and landed a superkick that took Hobbs to the outside where Pentagon followed up with a splash.
Hobbs ran at Pentagon & Pentagon threw Hobbs into the steps. Pentagon then hit a series of foot-stomps for a near fall. Marshall grabs a chair and Aaron Solow tried to interfere, which led to Hobbs hitting Pentagon with the TNT Title while the referee was distracted then Hobbs hits Town Business for the win.
Winner & Still TNT Champion: Powerhouse Hobbs (STILL CHAMPION!!!!!)
After the match QTV threatened to keep attacking Pentagon but here comes Rey Fenix to make the save.
After break we got a video recap of what happened with The Elite on Wednesday included was Kenny Omega’s promo from New Year Dash where he calls out Jeff Cobb. We’re going to get Omega vs. Cobb for the IWGP United States Title on Dynamite.
Ricky Starks made his entrance to speak to the crowd. Starks said he’s not in the mood to talk and he called out Juice Robinson. Robinson came out with a microphone and Robinson asked Starks if he was calling Robinson out. Juice walked to the ring and then turned around, but Starks ran after Robinson and threw Robinson into the ring. Robinson ran into the crowd with a mic and said if Starks wants to fight Robinson, he’s going to have to fight him in New York City.
We then got a video from Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal & they said the AEW referees have screwed them. Jarrett said the 4 some will have gold soon. Sonjay Dutt laughed maniacally to close it out and we went back to the ring.
Trios Champion Brody King vs. Jake Hager
Brody King & Jake Hager lock up to start this match off and they traded shoulder blocks that didn’t really work. They traded punches and King landed a double handed chop to take Hager down. Hager went to the outside and King threw Hager around until Hager reversed things and threw King into the guardrail that sends us to a break.
After the break King lands a Boss Man Slam for a two count. King went for a cannonball, but Hager moved and went for a Hager Bomb, but King got the boots up then he hits a discuss lariat for a near fall. Anna Jay ran to the ring and attacked Julia Hart but King drills Hager to the mat with All Seeing Eye to get the victory.
Winner: Trios Champion Brody King
We got a backstage promo from Swerve Strickland & he said he found an affiliate who’s as sick minded as he is. Tech9 shows up and Swerve said hoodies up and calls out Keith Lee.
Taya Valkyrie vs. Leila Grey
Taya Valkyrie & Leila Grey had a stare down and then Valkyrie hits a clothesline then Valkyrie ran the ropes and Smart Mark Sterling interrupted her with his cease and desist but Valkyrie hits Road To Valhalla gets the win.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
After the match Sterling comes into the ring and Valkyrie lays him out with Road To Valhalla.
We are back from the break we got a pre tape Mark Henry segment where there were no interviews.
Tag Team Match
The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) vs. The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett)
The Kingdom had control early with a fury of quick tags and double team moves. Anthony Bowens eventually tags in and The Acclaimed hits backcracker as they took control. Max Caster tags in and The Acclaimed hits Scissor Me Timbers. The Acclaimed had a scissor party and we go to our final break of the show.
After the break Matt Taven had control after landing a back heel kick. Mike Bennett tags in and The Kingdom tells Billy Gunn to suck it. Taven lands a knee for a two count. Billy Gunn backs Maria Kanellis Bennett up the ramp and Top Flight appeared to take Maria to the back. Billy then clotheslines Bennett on the outside and inside the ring, Bowens fired up and took everyone out then Caster hits Mic Drop for the win.
Winners: The Acclaimed
After the match Billy Gunn tries to put on Maria’s boot then The Acclaimed then scissored to close out Rampage.
