Backstage News on Rush and Andrade El Idolo, Original Plans Delayed

Rush was supposed to make his AEW in-ring debut in a tag team match, but things fell through and he ended up making his debut in the Royal Rampage match that aired last Friday.

According to a recent story from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rush and Andrade El Idolo were supposed to face off against Penta Oscuro and Rey Fenix at last week’s Rampage.

Fenix missed the Rampage tapings that week after the Blood & Guts Dynamite in Detroit because he was sick, along with a few other AEW wrestlers. Since AEW President Tony Khan didn’t know who would be available until just before the event, he came up with the idea for the Royal Rampage bout, which featured Penta and Rush.

Penta and Rush ended up battling and eliminating each other as soon as they were brought into the two-ring bout. Like they did to Fenix the week before, Rush and Andrade attacked Penta after the elimination, and his mask was taken off.

Khan then wanted to do the tag team match at Dynamite in Rochester this past Wednesday, but rumour is that either Fenix or Andrade were not cleared to compete, despite both being at ringside. Rush made his AEW in-ring singles debut on this week’s Dynamite, defeating Penta by pinfall when Andrade interfered.

The current idea is to have the bout between La Facción Ingobernables and Lucha Brothers on AEW TV as soon as possible.

Fenix hasn’t competed since teaming up with Arez to lose to Johnny Caballero and Abismo Negro Jr. at AAA Showcenter on June 26. This defeat came just a few days after Rampage’s defeat to Andrade in Milwaukee, where his mask was taken off. The previous match Andrade worked was against Rampage.
