As PWMania.com previously reported, Bobby Lashley and Steve Austin were both mentioned as potential Brock Lesnar opponents for WWE WrestleMania 39. According to an update from SI.com‘s Justin Barrasso, there were several reasons why Lesnar vs. Lashley wasn’t set for WrestleMania.
According to Sports Illustrated, Lesnar was initially scheduled to face Lashley at WrestleMania, but that match was moved to February at Elimination Chamber (in a finish that protected both men) so Lesnar could then get ready for a program against Steve Austin. WWE and Austin, however, never managed to agree. It is still unclear if an Austin match with a different opponent will take place.
Bray Wyatt was reportedly going to face Lesnar at WrestleMania after Austin reportedly declined the match, but Lesnar is thought to have scrapped the plan just before the Chamber PLE.
For WrestleMania, Lesnar vs. Omos is now scheduled. The live crowd on this week’s RAW seemed to be interested in the match as they chanted “holy sh*t” whenever the two were in the ring together. Over a million people have watched the YouTube video of their face-off on RAW.
