Following WrestleMania XL weekend, fans have been discussing The Rock’s future in WWE.

Rock teaming with Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins was the WWE WrestleMania 40 main event on night one, and the heels won, only for Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Title from Reigns the following night.

On Monday’s RAW, WWE teased Rock vs. Rhodes at a later date, which is thought to be planned for WrestleMania 41 next year. That event’s date and location have yet to be confirmed.

In the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated, “From what we’re told, this is very much a long-term thing. There is no planned date for Rock to return for a match, but it’s been talked about next year’s Mania.”

Meltzer also stated that “there are also ideas he’s presenting if needed to defend the people’s belt and obviously from the way the angle on RAW went down, that could be a belt vs. belt deal since they each held the others’ belt.”

As of now, Rock would prefer to work with Rhodes as the headliner of WrestleMania 41 because it is a bigger match than him against Reigns. While Rock usually gets what he wants, it’s not a guarantee; it’s simply something he prefers.

Rock will be away from WWE until early August, ruling out a Summerslam appearance or match due to his Hollywood commitments.

Meltzer went on to say, “While nothing is official, Rock vs. Reigns would figure to be Mania 2026, but anything that far out would be subject to a million different unforeseen things that could change it.”

Rock is said to like the idea of one-year builds for his matches. Meltzer brought up that had Rock not gotten injured at WrestleMania 29 against John Cena, there were plans “to shoot an angle on the RAW after Mania where he’d be laid out by Brock Lesnar and do a one-year build.”
