AEW star and Pro wrestling legend Billy Gunn appeared on Busted Open Radio to talk about a number of topics, including when things started clicking for him in wrestling.
Gunn said, โI think not until me and Road Dogg got togetherโฆbecauseโฆin a sense, I should have never gotten a job at WWE because I was so green, but the stars alignedโฆ all the leashes were offโฆ literally, they handed it to usโฆbecause we were literally about to get fired because they just didnโt have anything. We werenโt going anywhere. We werenโt doing anything.โ
On how Road Dogg helped him:
โAnd they said, โHey, you guys just go do what you want to do. Go be what you want to beโฆโ Road Dogg is so talented, anyway, that he kind of helped me along. He [said], โHey, dude, just turn it on. Just be that thing thatโs in you that you wish you could get out,โ and I think that was the โMr. A**/Bad A**โ Billy Gunn character.โ
On training Baron Corbin before Corbin step foot in WWE:
โThe funny thing is Iโve actually known him before his wrestling career, right before he was going to the [WWE] Performance Centerโฆ now if you know me you know that I hate training football people (laughs), but because theyโre entitled, but you know what, not just because heโs sitting here but he was awesome, he was one of the one that always wanted to learn, always wanted to do- and Iโd always sit in the ring after our classes if he wasnโt in my class cause I knew he was coming.โ
On teaming with Corbin (Bishop Dyer) at MLP Mayhem:
โIt was kind of along the same feelings as tagging with my kids (Austin and Colten Gunn). The first time I did that and was working with my kids, itโs such a cool experience that a lot of guys- they donโt get to experience that. Right when I thought that my career was complete like it was, I get to compete with my kids and then I get to work with (Dyer)โฆ I feel I can retire like right now and never do this again.โ
